pulled pork recipe

Sorry, I am a pulled pork snob... ya can only smoke it for 10 -12 hours with a nice rub on it.... can't make it is a crock pot... that is sacrilege! ;)

:snooty: Oh shush, its very good. Im not saying your way isnt better, im just saying the crock pot is very good too.

k, I am going to give up my secret recipe, it is done in two parts. and the BBQ sauce the extra you can use or freeze.

BBQ SAUCE

chipotle chile powder 1/2 tsp
Chili Powder 2 tsp
Cumin 2 tsp
Coriander 2 tsp
Salt
Brown Sugar - 1 cup
1 Onion - Diced
12 or 16 oz Root Beer
Maple Syrup (fake is fine) - 1 cup
Ketchup - 3 tsp

Directions

Sautee diced onion in light oil in large deep sauce pan
Add equal parts sll spices including brown sugar
Deglaze the pan with the Root Beer and reduce by 3/4
Add 3 parts Ketchup, i part brown sugar and 1 part Maple syrup
Cook over low hear stirring constantly
Taste- add salt and spices to taste
If to sweet add more Ketchup if not sweet enough add Maple syrup
If to thick thin out with either chicken or beef stock.

~these are not exact amounts, I cook tailored to the taste, just have fun with it!

PULLED PORK

Ingredients

Pork - pork butt is best but pork loin will work (approx 7 pds)
Cumin
Coriander
Chili Powder
Brown Sugar
Kosher Salt
Water
and BBQ from above

Rub Pork with equal parts of all the spices
Place in oven proof pan (brasising pot/pan is ideal)- thou you can use crock pot

Bring equal parts chicken and beef stock to a boil
Add a little BBQ Sauce
Pour the boiling liquid into the Pork Pan so that it covers 3/4 of the Pork
Cover Pan well with Aluminum foil
Place in preheated oven 400 degree for 3 to 4 hours
(cook until it shreds easily with 2 forks)

Break it apart with 2 forks and mix with BBQ Sauce to your preference and serve
Save the braining liquid as it is great for reheating the pork and for homemade soups!

It sounds like alot of work, it really is an easy recipe.

ENJOY!!

Yep I agree as well. I made cooked 2 butts for the party I went to yesterday. There was a ton of food, but the only thing everyone was raving about was the pulled pork.

The crockpot and oven methods are ok, but once you have real pulled pork properly smoked, it is never the same.
