Hi--my family just returned from a land vacation in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. While we were there, we went on an excursion to Las Caletas. It was the highlight of our week!

My kids got to go on zip lines, ride a donkey, and meet monkeys. My tween went on a zip line into the ocean! The beaches were lovely, and the food was great!

I know there are several DCL cruises that stop in Puerto Vallarta, so I just wanted to share our experience at this tropical paradise. I have a full photo review on my blog:

Thanks for sharing your review, it looks like a neat place when visiting Puerto ValWal-mart. For those interested here is what the excursion booked by the OP includes:

The cost came to $499 for the five of us with 10% off from the hotel. (If we had booked online 96 hours in advance, we could have gotten 15% off).

The excursion cost included the following:

  • Four beaches (one was adults-only)
  • Beach chairs, hammocks
  • Stand-up paddle boards
  • Kayaks
  • Snorkeling equipment
  • Animal encounters (monkeys, birds)
  • Guided nature walk (orchid garden)
  • Mezcal tasting
  • Cooking classes
  • Kids Adventure Park (zip line, donkey ride, face painting, petting zoo)
  • Teen Adventure Cove (zip line into the ocean, water slide, etc.)
  • Continental breakfast on the boat
  • Welcome taco when arriving on the island
  • Open bar on island and boat
  • Lunch buffet on island
Optional extras:
  • Spa services (1-hour massage was only $59!)
  • Sea lion and stingray encounter in open water ($49)
  • Scuba Diving ($49)
  • Power Snorkeling ($39)
  • Flyboard ($49)
  • Professional photos

We did an excursion to Las Caletas when we went to Puerto Vallarta for our honeymoon, it was fantastic! If we ever take a cruise that stops in PV, we will definitely do it again!

It looks like the price through DCL is cheaper than what we got through our hotel. DCL webpage is showing $99 for adults and $69 for kids.

Several people on the last Panama Canal Cruise wanted to do this excursion, but Disney didn't offer it for that cruise. :( Not sure why, but perhaps was because our time at port was too short. It does look great!

Yes, that must be it. :( The excursion lasted almost 8 hours. It's still on the DCL website, so perhaps it will be offered for the 7-night Mexican Riviera cruises next year.

We did this excursion the last time we visited the area. My mother in law has a time-share in Nuevo Vallarta and we've been going there a couple times a year. It was fantastic. Definitely the highlight of our last trip.

Next time we want to explore more of the city of Puerto Vallarta. I'm wondering if we should do a tour or just take a taxi into downtown and explore.

We took a taxi to the downtown/Melecon area and explored on our own. There are so many cool sculptures along the water! We didn't go until our last day, and we wished we had gone earlier in the trip so that we had time to go back there.
