PTR to CBR -- an August 2012 Adventure

Ok, here I am to complain…..vent…..ugh! So if you don’t read this post, that is totally understandable….

As I’ve mentioned before, I work for State government. I love my job, I really do, but we haven’t received a pay raise in 4 years and it looks like there won’t be another one this year either. Ok, so, I don’t like it, but I have a job with benefits, so I can deal with that. There are some states/city governments that have layoffs and I just saw on the news that one city dropped the pay of all their employees down to minimum wage. Ugh! So, I really am thankful about the income I have. Having said all that, the State also has changed its insurance company to Aetna from Anthem. Ok, well, I will give that a chance. Between Victoria and I there are quite a few specialist that we see, so I’m anxious about the copays on the visits. Well, today I went to the pharmacy and was charged $70 for a 90 day supply of synthroid!!! $70!!?? :crazy2: With Anthem I was only paying $30! Needless to say this really wasn’t in the budget and it really upsets me. Yes, I had the money to pay for it (we got paid today) but OMG!!! I know, I know, I am lucky to have insurance, but it’s just I wasn’t prepared for that. Peter and I keep our money separate for the most part and I am so sick of scrimping and living right to the dollar, paycheck to paycheck. It really sucks. Again, I know I should be thankful I have a job with benefits, but still…..:furious:

Ok, rant over. Sorry about that.

Anyways, Disney has put its prices out for 2013 today and of course I just HAD to look it all over. I mean, c’mon. :thumbsup2 It wouldn’t be normal if I didn’t, right? I plan on booking the bounceback offer no matter what it is and hope it’s Free Dining or that Free Dining will come out during our dates. So, anyways, I’m planning on booking POP preferred location with upgrade to DDP instead of quick service ($3075), but will secretly be saving money for Animal Kingdom Lodge --- savannah view ($5467)! Wow….now that I write that I can see it’s a difference of $2,300 ---- Holy Fudge!! :scared1: That’s another trip (almost) in and of itself……You all know that things come up --- new tires needed, insurances to pay, Christmas…ugh! And the above-mentioned prescription thing. Am I totally dreaming that I can pull this off, aren’t I? :rolleyes2 Ok, so let’s work the numbers. Let’s say there are 26 more pay periods until Trip 2013. Usually we get a joint tax refund of about $2,500 which automatically goes to the vacation fund. That leaves a difference of approximately $2,967 to divide by 26 pay periods --- that means I would have to put aside $114.12 every pay period from the time we get back this year until Trip 2013. It would have to be a tad bit more as we have to pay off the trip at the 45 day mark so let’s say $125 per week. Realistically, that can be done. :bitelip: Victoria wanted to stay at the Poly, but that’s over $6,000 ---- way out of the budget unless it was just a Mommy/Daughter trip. Here’s another dilemma for you planners out there ---- let’s say the bounceback IS free dining…….would you book Pop or AKL? :confused3 If we book AKL and then end up not being able to afford it, would there be any rooms left at Pop? And if there are no rooms at Pop, what do we do then??? Do they have to give us Free Dining somewhere? See these are the things I spend time thinking about. Weird, huh? I really need opinions on what I should do! :lovestruc

I think I know have enough clothes for both Victoria and I for this year’s trip. I was able to buy her 4 more pairs of pants that I will cut into shorts at Wal-mart for a total of $10!!! Boy, don’t I love the clearance racks. Just need to pick up bras and undies for me and maybe socks. I’m not sure yet on that one. Oh, did I mention I was now at 37 days??? Yesiree Bob! It’s coming so fast now. Pretty soon my ticker will not show “1 month and so many days” it will just be in DAYS!!!! That’s exciting!! I’m going to have to get the suitcase out and do a double check on the power strip, batteries, etc that can already be packed. I wait until the night before to pack clothes. Nikki over at the August thread made all of us “Team August’ers” a really cool nametag for our bags. I already have those on both my camera and park bags.
http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/ee453/nikkigwdw/Team August/Screenshot2012-07-07at80214PM.png
I also bought Peter some Airborne. I’ve read on the boards that this is one thing that really helps people if you start taking it before you go on the plane. I’m hoping it works because he was sick on the last 2 trips.

I WANT MICKEY MAIL!!!! ::yes:: Some of Team August already have theirs and they said they got theirs around the 32 day mark. Ugh! I’m so impatient! I need to email my TA to see if she’s received them yet. Oh, hurry up already!

Well, I have sad news about my chickens. I only have 1 left of the original 3 I bought. I’m not sure what happened to them. Lemmie has been so lonely that he’s been treating my like his Mama hen ---- sitting up on my shoulder, cooing and grooming me with his beak. He tickles! But the good news is that I’m going to get 2 new babies tonight after work. These are about one month old and they are black cochins. So, they are the same breed, just different color than little Lemmie that I have now. I’m going to someone’s farm to get them and not purchase them out of the back of someone’s truck ---- that may have been the problem.

We have really been making the most out of the summer. :beach: We have been in our pool at least 2 times per week if not more. I’m really enjoying this summer and the weather has been perfect. It’s hardly rained at all. Now, my garden doesn’t like that much, but I sure do! I actually have a little color on my pale, white skin. So cool! Ok, the color is a reddish type, but it still counts, doesn’t it? This weekend I have 2 bridal showers to go to ---- both at noon ---- one on Saturday and one on Sunday, so pool time will have to wait until late afternoon on both days. Oh well.

Ooooh, you are SO CLOSE!!!

hmmm...ok, here's my take...

a percentage off (usually 35% or 40% pin) would be a better deal at AKL than FD would be. I also would seriously look into renting points at AKL and just paying for the dining plan. The only issue with that is that you have to pay upfront, so that might be a problem. I think it would end up cheaper for you though.

I would book whatever you can (Pop) when you are there, then at least you won't be on pins and needles waiting for it to be released in the spring! I wish I could do the same, but I'm almost positive that since Rey & I are renting points at AKL in November, we will not be offered any kind of bounceback...

Just book whatever you do! I WISH WISH WISH I had booked BB when we were there in January, but didn't realize we would be back so soon! I don't know what I was thinking! :lmao:

YAY for paying off the trip....that is always a good feeling. Well, maybe not a good feeling for your wallet but, for knowing you are one step closer to going to the happiest place ever!!:rotfl:

I am having my Disney withdraws from being back a few weeks. We had a great time despite the RAIN!! It rained on us almost everyday I am talking down poor!!! It rained on us last time in October so, I was hoping it wouldn't this time but no such luck. Oh well, we still had a great time.....I am ready to go back now!:goodvibes

Thank you, but I have yet to read your trip report....hmmmmm??? I'm so sorry about the rain. I do worry that we are travelling during hurricane season, but we always do and so far have been extrememly lucky. I'm hoping for awesome weather again this year....pixiedust:

I can't wait to hear how you like Paradiso 37. LOVE the Disney hair bows! Too cute! That's great news with the PhotoPass Plus! I hope it works out well because I want to get it next year too! Yeah, once we settle on dates for next year, I'm open to doing a share! A poncho out of Disney bags? Now, that's something I have to see! That could be really cool :thumbsup2 Awesome deal on the iPhone! There are so many cool Disney apps for smartphones. I have an Android and, sadly, they're aren't as many Disney apps for us. It almost makes me want to go Team iPhone! My kids are due for upgrades on their phones in December, and they both want iPhones so I can just put the apps I want on their phones! :lmao: Speaking of my kids, I'm thankful that True isn't into One Direction! I really can't handle her going nuts over ANOTHER boy band! Then again, I might not be in the clear yet because it took her a while to catch Bieber Fever :rolleyes2 I have to admit, I'm jealous of your chickens! In VA, we're only permitted to have chickens if we have a certain amount of acreage. I know this because I fell in love with black chickens (Silkies). They have black "meat" (that sounds gross when I'm talking about a pet) and fluffy white feathers (other colors too, but I like the white ones best because they look like chicks to me) and they are cute as can be! Sometimes I wonder if anyone would really know if I put some in my back yard :rolleyes1 I have a fence! :rotfl:

You know Erin, I miss you, Karen and Hope soooo much! I really am looking forward to when you start your ptr!!! Then I get to keep updated on the kids and you! Yes, I've been working on the Disney bag poncho, but you know what?? I ran out of disney bags!! :rotfl2: I have 2 coworkers down there this week for a Modern Woodmen convention thing (yeah, really hard to take the Beach Club for a week all expenses paid.....I have a few choice words for them!) but I did ask that if they did any shopping, if they would please bring me back some Disney bags! I have enough for the front and two layers of the back. It's very frustrating to get the plastic to fuse rather than burn! :confused3 Well, if you read my previous update you'll see that I lost 2 of my original 3 chickens....but I am getting more tonight! :drive:

:cool1: to paying off the trip!

:cheer2: Yay for paying off your trip!!! That's such a great feeling!! :thumbsup2

Thank you.....I'm sooo excited. Now I just want Mickey Mail!!!! :goodvibes

LOL! Not excited or anything, are you? We're at 85 days, 9 hours, 14 mins!!!! (and no, I'm not excited either!)

Nope, not excited at all......heheheheheh!

I'm here following along. Just read all your previous posts. Congrats on being paid in full. Our date, July 29th, is sneaking up very quickly. If nothing breaks down in the house I am ready to make final payment. It's such a great feeling isn't it?

Hi and welcome :wave2: Love having people join in my madness!!! It does feel great to be paid in full!

See? I knew you were stalking me! How else would you be able to answer within 8 minutes of my post, huh? :rotfl2: I can always count on you being here! :goodvibes Ok, so lets say we do the 35 or 40% off pin. (I'm using 35%) That brings it to $3,553 (I'm including 8 day tickets in that figure so I would have to do that just on the room....ugh....back to disney.com. Ok, so room only regular price is $4,511) So, 35% off room only is $2,932.15 plus the dining plan $1,800 or so and 8 day tickets -- no hoppers - $953 equals a total of $5,685.15. Unless my figures are wrong, Free Dining is still better for our family of 3. Am I doing my figures wrong??? :confused3

Hmmmm, what would your dates be again? Let me do the Disney math, it usually does not work out that FD is better at the Deluxe level! If you tell me how many nights and the dates I can also tell you what it would be to rent points for that same time... Oh and I'm not stalking you silly, I get an email when there are any posts on your thread! ;)

I think you may be right, I guess b/c of how long you are staying? I don't know, the prices are confusing me right now! LOL. I priced it and you can get a studio DVC on points rental at AKL with a savanna view for 2535$. Not sure how that works out, but you can add (pay) for the dining plan with that and then you could always do something like YES tickets if you wanted to save money and Victoria was interested in a class? Either way, be sure to book SOMETHING before leaving!! :thumbsup2

thanks for looking it over for me. I really appreciate it!!! And I definitely will book the bounce back. No matter what it is.

It sucks that your insurance changed and you now have to pay over twice as much for your meds.

I am right there with you on playing around with different resorts at the 2013 prices. I hope that you can reach your goal of staying AKL savannah view. That would be awesome!

I'm missing you over on my trip report.....come back and read!

OH, I'm lurking over there....don't you worry!!! Love Hunter's bday decorations!!!! Are the rooms pretty small on board ship. They seem to be...

The room wasn't what I'd call "roomy" but there it was comfy. I'm just super happy that I upgraded from an inside stateroom. I bet we'd have been smooshed in like sardines.

Bad, bad me.....I've been neglecting my poor little PTR!! :( There's really not much left for me to do other than the waiting for Mickey Mail and actually leaving! Both Victoria and I have our clothes all set except for the couple pairs of pants I am turning into shorts for her. I have them cut, I just have to hem them. I just picked myself up some shirts using gift coupons. Lane Bryant had "save $15 when you spend $15", so I ended up with a shirt for $5. Did the same thing at Kohl's but theirs was "save $10 when you spend $10", again I spent about $5 with the coupon. Love those coupons! :yay: Peter picked up a couple of pairs of new shorts and he says he'll be wearing last year's t-shirts. I think I might make him one more shirt. I want to put a picture of our chicken Lemmie on it and use a phrase from Chicken Little --- see? Disney related, right? The story is that Peter has been very concerned over Lemmie since the other 2 chickens we got are a bit bigger than he/she (we don't know yet) and Peter was afraid Lemmie would get picked on. He/she hasn't, but every night Peter will ask me how Lemmie was today and if he was eating/drinking, etc. Totally overly obsessed with this chicken!! Wow! And I thought I was! So I think it would totally funny for him to have a Lemmie shirt! :rotfl:

29 MORE DAYS!!!!

Can you guys believe it?! I can't believe it's coming so quickly! I really need this vacation! Really...truly....ugh! You want to know what really sucks though? Mother Nature started her monthly visit to me today. So, she will be with me for the first couple of days of my trip, that witch! I really hate her! I get sooo crampy, it's just not fair. I'm hoping I will be early next month. Everyone wish that she's early next month, ok? :wizard:

I've made another decision on Trip 2013.......if we do go Deluxe it will be at the Beach Club. It was going to be AKL, but the BC is more my style. I joined the resort thread and everyone seems very nice over there. I wasn't too keen on the AKL thread --- I just didn't feel welcomed over there. Totally my perception, I'm sure, but BC feels better. I will book the bounceback for CBR for next year, just to have something in place and Lord knows I can change my mind, right? :rolleyes1 I will have to save $125 each pay check from the time I get back until the time the payment is due, but it is possible, as long as nothing else comes up. A big concern is Peter's job. He wants to leave and get another job very badly. He does travel an hour to get to work, so he wants something closer. The thing is let's say he does get a job here in town --- what if he won't get a vacation for a while and won't be able to go with us in August 2013? Will I still go --- Heck Yeah! I mean, I would have to seriously consider it. I wouldn't want him to feel bad that he couldn't go. That would change my plans considerably as I probably wouldn't be able to swing the expense myself (as I wouldn't use his portion of the tax refund if he wasn't going). We would probably have to stay at Pop and just save the Deluxe option for a family vacation. Wow.....rambling on and on arent' I?? :lmao:

That's about it for today's update! Hope you all are enjoying your summer! :beach:

29 days!!!!! Yay!!!!

Glad you updated! I'm on my phone and it's hard to type right now, but I'm reading! :)

It sounds like you're getting everything organized for the trip. I hope that the days just fly by for you!

WOOHOO you are less than a month away! :cheer2: I love the idea of a Lemmie shirt for Peter! That will be so cute! It's so sweet how he's concerned about little Lemmie. OK, I'm wishing for you that your Aunt Flo shows up early so you don't have to deal with that! Beach Club sounds awesome for next year. I hope Peter can find a job that's closer - I totally understand how bad an hour long commute is - and one that will give PTO by your trip next year! By the way, how are the gift bag ponchos going? Have you made any progress? Curious and impatient girl I am, I looked online and couldn't find an example so I'm really wondering how they turned out. I hope it worked because that would be such a cool way to recycle gift bags!

I'm a huge fan of Beach Club, even though we just cancelled our reservation there. We're staying at Wyndham Bonnet Creek in a 2 bedroom villa for $120 per night. Like you said about your job, we are both employed and have good health insurance but co-pays keep going up. And my husband is making about 25% less this year due to health care cuts. Again, I'm not complaining because we're SO much better off than most people.

Our trip is 33 days away and you're just ahead of us! :cool1:

Oh, I am getting soooo excited and I know you all will understand! :hyper: Yes, Erin I have been working on my Disney Bag Rain Poncho. I must say it’s actually coming out better than I anticipated. Like I’ve said before, the hardest part is fusing the plastic bags together. Once they are fused, it is so easy to sew them. If you recall, I had run out of Disney bags myself, so I had to ask 2 of my coworkers to get some while they were down there. Unfortunately, they were only able to get one big one and one small one. Oh well. I will somehow make this work. The front panel is all done. I will be working more on the back panel tonight, hopefully! It’s been too hot lately to want to take the iron out. I’m waiting until it is all done to take a pic of it. So far, so good. :thumbsup2

Well, I’ve started packing last night…..ok, who am I kidding, I’m always packed and ready! :rotfl2: I have my ultimate packing list to refer to, but the clothes will have to wait until the night before. I do have mine and Victoria’s all on hangers on a rack in my room. I pack the clothes with the hangers right on them so when we get to our room it’s an easy unpack. Yesterday I picked up Alieve and Tums for the hubby so we won’t have to buy them down there. Me? I’m good with Tylenol & Ibuprofen and my pain pills if my back starts really acting up. Those are the pills of last resort! Victoria will need gas drops as she has a pretty sensitive tummy. I’ll have to pack feminine products at the last minute (as I’m hoping good ole Aunt Flo will come early next month and I won’t have to deal with her!) I have to go through the makeup that’s always packed to make sure I have enough pressed powder and eye makeup remover to last. Also eyebrow pencil and eyeliner. You do not want to see me without those liners, baby! Seriously! I need to make sure nothing is caked up or expired. I always have q-tips, bandaids, Neosporin, safety pins and suntan lotion all packed. I don’t think there will be anything we’ll need to buy. Oh, we are trying Airborne for Peter this year. The airplane air always seems to make him sick, so we will try it a few days before to see what happens. Does anyone have experience with it? :confused3

I was going to board Cutie (my yellow lab) at the kennel, but my friend and coworker Jane has offered to take her. Jane has 2 shepherds and I think this would be the best environment for Cutie. She is so not a dog --- she thinks she’s a person! And Jane spoils her dogs rotten, so Cutie will love it! I also called around for pricing at the 2 kennels here in town and one is $351 for 14 days and the other place hasn’t gotten back to me. Jane doesn’t want me to pay her anything, but I’m going to! Karen, oh pet sitter extraordinaire, what do you think I should pay her? I’m supplying Cutie’s food, blankie and toys, so what do you think? I was thinking $150 or am I being cheap? She has an appointment on the 11th to update her shots & heartworm meds. Mom will be going over daily to feed the cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits and chickens. OMG!! Do I really have that many pets? Yeah, I don’t think I will be replacing any when they pass from now on. :cat:paw::squirrel:

Since Erin had mentioned Amazon, I am hooked on that site now! :woohoo: I purchased my 2012 Disney scrapbook and paper from there and they should be in today or tomorrow. It’s so convenient. This is something I won’t have to worry about buying and packing in Disney. I’ve had to return a couple of things and returns are really easy as well. If I get them in today, I will be sure to post a picture. Now there will be no more shopping for Disney until I’m at Disney!

I’ve made appointments for both Victoria and I to get our physicals before we go to Disney. I usually have our appointments on/near our birthdays so I don’t forget, so I don’t know what happened this year. I forgot. Victoria’s should have been in February and mine should have been in May. The doctor is going to tell me the same old thing --- lose weight, exercise more and keep my blood sugars under control. Yep. I know this. Doing it is an entirely different matter. Victoria’s doctor will probably tell her the same thing. Don’t know what Cutie’s doctor will say…hehehehehe! OH, another interesting little appointment I have to keep is one with DMV!!! Yep, I received a letter stating that due to my medical conditions I will need to take a driver’s exam. DRIVER’S EXAM??!!! I haven’t had one of those since I was 18 years old!!! I believe I’m a good driver, but what if I fail??!! I NEVER parallel park, so I will probably fail that portion. :furious: I am seriously nervous about it. That’s on August 1st. I’m thinking of taking the day off after my appointment at 9am. We’ll see…

That’s it for now….

24 more days!!! :hyper: :worship: :woohoo: :yay:  :cool1:

29 days!!!!! Yay!!!!

Glad you updated! I'm on my phone and it's hard to type right now, but I'm reading! :)

I'm trying not to bore you to tears.....

Yay for 25 days!!!!:cool1: You are getting so close!!!:hyper:

I know....OMG!!! I just cannot wait! :cool1:

It sounds like you're getting everything organized for the trip. I hope that the days just fly by for you!

I hope so......it's soooooo hard to concentrate at work right now knowing it's so close.

Working on the poncho, Erin. I promise. I still haven't done a Lemmie shirt yet.....

We've only seen the lobby of BC while we were at Cape May, but from what I've seen online it looks beautiful! Storm Along Bay sounds awesome especially with the lazy river. I'm anxious to float in that!! ::yes::

Oh and for your entertainment.....here is Peter in last's years costume for MNSSHP... Enjoy!

Peter's We are Men

:offtopic: Just wanted to let everyone know that I had to put my loving Rusty kitty down this morning. He was 14 years old and a diabetic so for him to live as long as he did was good. He was there when Victoria was a baby and used to sleep in her crib. He saw me through my abusive marriage, moving, my dad's death, my memere's death, meeting Peter and trying the squeeze his way in between Peter and I for his spot in bed. I loved him so so much!
