Is anyone in their right mind going to pay £550 to play Sonic the Hedgehog !

I really don't like the look of Sony's strategy with this console, it looks to me like they are relying on the same strategy that was such a success with PS2, namely targeting the "parents", who (a) wanted little johnny's old PS1 games to still work and not be obscelete, and (b) saw the prices of these new DVD players and thought they could kill 2 birds with one stone and get a PS2 to do play films and also games.
The PS3 has reported serious flaws in its backwards compatability, but I dont think thats the whole story, I think parents who bought PS2 for that reason might actualy realise that even though PS2 had this capability, kids don't want to play "old" games on their cutting edge hardware, and they never bothered with them anyway. Furthermore, Blu Ray is so much in its infancy, people arent going to buy a PS3 to save them having 2 devices.

Given this ridiculous launch price, Sony deserve to fail miserably.....me, Im waiting until several price cuts and the availability of a mod chip for it !

Hiya

Your right, I believe the Playstation 3 is overpriced, but most electronics as soon as they hit the market are. Also, I believe Sony know they have a huge audiance so no matter what the price they know people are still gonna buy it. Personally I stick with computers knowing that they advance faster and in year after the PS3 is launched, once again computers will still looking twice as good ;)

Although my parents are going to buy me a PS3, I have to agree with you there; it appears Microsoft and Sony are just trying to do more of the same; trying to give us more power in our games for an extremely high start up price. It seems riduclous to charge so much, but in a few months afterwards they are so much cheaper; I know that they are selling Xbox 360s for around £140 now.

I personally believe the Wii will defeat the others, and it's going to be the best buy in the future. Nintendo know they can't beat them on power of their consoles, so they are going for more imagination. And in the end, I hope that Nintendo can come on top again.

NEW WORLD ORDER! NEW WORLD ORDER!

Why would you want a PS3Are you just after one because you feel you have to ?....wouldnt you prefer a 360 and a Wii for roughly the same price ?

This is the problem that MS and Nintendo are up against....Sony's marketing power is so powerful, people already know they are getting a PS3 before its even out.

I say rebel...don't get one...make them prove themselves first.

I agree. Nothing Phony can come up with could possibly challenge what Twilight Princess looks like on the Wii. Mario 128, a new Mario Kart. Rogue Leader was a fantastic leap forward from the N64 to Cube, if they do that again with the Wii then it's goodnight PS3.
The DS has already proved how dynamic Nintendo's thinking is.

I kind of liken the situation to the Ford Escort.
Mk1 Escort, absolutely fantastic ground breaking opposition crushing car in motorsport terms and sales. Mk2 Escort, more of the same, slight improvements but retaining the real wheel drive essentials, and the RS2000 was a cracker.....But, no-one in their right mind would would say the Mk3 was better and immediately buy one just because they had a mk1 and a mk2.

on a side note has anyone ever bought a 360 in the states? and does it play uk and usa games?

I was looking at a ps3 when there were two versions, for chris for christmas but obviously now I arnt lol

I have the entire SuperNes library on my Xbox. Brilliant.
Super Mario World was just fantastic

You can get a decent PC to play games on for the same money!

The games at £60 a time are a bit on the steep side as well!

I wll upgrade to a PS2 one day, if only because there are a few games for that which I'd like to play which don't seem to be available on PC - I just barely ever play my PS1 so there's no way I could justify getting a PS2. I normally buy PC games anyway but my PC is really slow so I can't play anything fast, just building or Sim type games, but that's ok cos they're all I tend to play anyway!

If I could afford it....and I wasn't flying back from WDW :rolleyes1 ;) I would be one of the first in line to get a new PS3 :teeth:

I agree that the price is steep, but so was the XBox when it was launched, if you could get hold of one of course! As people were willing to pay 4/5 hundred quid for one on e-bay last year I don't see Sony having a problem this year retailing them at a similar price. I also don't expect to see many PS3's on sale outside of bundle deals when they are released as I think the retailers have learn't from the XBox launch last year that they can get away with this.

As it is I will have to wait to get mine but I will be getting one :)

I love the SNES as well :cheer2: but mine broke, we've got a GameCube now - just purchased Mario Power Tennis it's great. :woohoo:
