I went to see my 12 year old nephew Rob in his school play tonight. It was a play that was written by his teacher about a group of kids working to keep the drama program alive.
My nephew played a lounge singer/comedian. He had to sing parts of "Luck Be A Lady," "Respect," and "Satisfaction." He was so good in his role. He really had the part down, and I loved watching him up onstage.
The reason I'm so proud of him is because of his dedication to the play. He was originally cast as the understudy for the role. He is a sixth grader, and usually they only put the 7th and 8th graders in the lead roles. They have two casts and an understudy for eveyr role in the play. My nephew really took being the understudy role very seriously--he took the script home, studied the lines, and went to every rehearsal. One of the kids originally cast in my nephew's roles missed a lot of rehearsals, and my nephew filled in. Finally, the teacher told my nephew that he was going to play the role because the other kid missed to many reheasals. I'm really proud of my nephew for being so dedicated to this. That dedication was recognized and rewarded by the teacher.
Thanks for listening
