Can anyone share with me the pros and cons of adding ground transfer to the cruise package? If it isn't added to the package, what is a convenient/inexpensive way to get from airport to port and back again? Towncar service, taxis?

I am assuming that the DCL ground transfer would pile my family (2 adults, 2 young children) onto a shuttle or bus with many other passengers. For this reason, I am leaning towards a towncar service. However, I noticed that DCL phrases their service as "luggage and ground transfer." Do they provide a more convenient transfer of luggage from the shuttle/bus to the ship?

Also, how long does it take to get from MCO to the port? What time do I need to make sure we are at the port for a 5:00 pm departure?

I would appreciate any advice from those more experienced!!

Thank you.

For what I learned in this forum the pros of Disney's ground transportation is that you don't need to worry of anything else, you get on the bus at the airport and they take care of the rest. On the other hand, is expensive (compared to a rental car).

I read a lot of posts recommending a rental car from Avis (something like $30) since you can return the car at a Radisson hotel near the port that also offers shuttle transportation to port Canaveral. The idea is to go to the port, leave your luggage an family, return the car and catch the shuttle back to the cruise terminal.

If you don't want to drive, check yourride.net for an optional way of transportation.

You must be onboard before 4:30 (Al passangers must be present for the mandatory drill) but remember that your cruise begin at 12:30! You can start enjoying the ship food, pools and activities as soon as you embark.

We used to take the Disney Cruise Line buses but have switched to Happy Limo towncars. We enjoyed the video on the bus, but we didn't like the fact that we sometimes had to wait for a bus (or two, if it's particularly crowded) before leaving and since we were often seated in front of kicking "sugar kids." With Happy Limo, we know that we will leave immediately and have our own private vehicle in which to relax. Also, the towncar is especially convenient now that we are flying in a day early whenever possible...it allows us to leave early the morning of the cruise.

money versus least hassle, i believe is what it comes down to. If you have time to spare, then i would try to avoid the buses.
