I'm sure this has been asked many times before, but could someone please give me the Pros and Cons of diffrent UY either from the same home resort or diffrent?

I have an April UY and am looking to buy a second contract however I can't find one I like with an April UY and I'm considering a diffrent UY. We have a family of 6 so we always stay in a 2 bedroom. I would need to combine the points from both contracts.

Any help would be great.

A different UY means a completely different membership. If it is the same resort, you will be able to book whole nights from each contract and then link the reservations at 11 months.

If you want to combine points from each contract to make up a single night, then you would have to transfer points from one to the other before making the reservation.

We had two UY at one point but at different resorts. The problem at the time was that neither one was big enough to book my entire vacation at 11 months (even with the split stay) without having to borrow. Since one was only 50 points, it was only enough for 1 night in a 1 bedroom, not two. Had it been 80 points, we would have been okay.

Good luck!

Pros - One of the biggest pros is having different banking and expiration windows. If you travel twice a year and 6 months apart (for example), two different UYs limit your risk of losing points if you have to cancel.

Cons - We had two UYs (Aug and Dec), and I personally would not do it again. In order to combine points for a night's use, you can only do that by transferring points from 1 contract to the other, and you can only do that once per UY. It's not the end of the world, but when we sold/purchased this time around, we waited for contracts with the same UY.

The "best" use year is the one that works for your travel pattern, which may or may not stay the same over the course of your membership. Here's a thread you may find helpful:

Understanding Use Year

Good luck with your research. :)

Ughh... Don't do it. You can't borrow points for the same trip, used banked points for the same trip (if you want to combine points from your 2 UY for the same trip). What a pain!

Personally, I think that there are many, many, many more cons.

The only time I would consider it, is if I owned VB or HHI and ALWAYS traveled there at a specific time of year which was completely different then WDW travel times.

As others have said, you cant combine points at 7 months, unless you transfer.

Example, I owned at VB and always went down during srping break/spring training and/or summer. So my VB points were a march UY.

Then, I owned BWV points as I always traveled in Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan and Feb.

There are people that do it and it works for them. Personally, I wouldn't do it.

for us it works, we have a march and April UY. If it was small contracts i wouldnt bother as it would be too much hassle. We have enough points at each resort for what we need.

To clarify - you can't combine points for a single night unless you transfer. You can link reservations between the two UY's for a single stay.
