DD's First Communion is on June 6, due to my DS having surgery a few days before I had to cancel her party. (he was originally scheduled to have it on Tues) I just would not have the time to pull it off and DS is definately not going to be up to it.

Anyway, is it in bad taste to have the party on the 26? I can not change the date of the communion. Should I just not have the party? Any help, comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The girl is entitled to her par-tay! I would have it whenever you can. People will understand!

I don't see anything wrong with the new party date-- not the kids fault they have to have surgery (which I hope goes well).

I agree have it when you can! ;) When DS graduated grammar school 2 years ago, I had the party almost 1 month later, due to other obligations, etc.

Your friends and family will know about your son's surgery and understand. Just have the party at a later date. Good luck!!!

This year both my DD and my niece made their First Communion. Instead of having two separate parties, my SIL and I decided to have one combined party. Since the girls made their communion on different days we decided, in order to be fair to both girls, to host the party on a totally different day. The party is not until Sunday 5/30. The girls are so excited to be celebrating together. I don't think that anybody minds that the party is not on the same day as the church. Unfortunately, most people don't even get to attend the church because seating can be limited.

Have a wonderful party, and I hope your son is doing well!

I had DD's 1st birthday party on July 30th, her b-day is September 2nd. That's when everyone was in town and available. I was also PG with DD#2 and due on 8/27. I wanted DD#1 to have the day to herself and I was concerned I would go into labo early. So we had a great time over a month early.

I think you should go ahead and have the party when it works best for you. Hope your DS is feeling better soon and congratulations to your DD on her upcoming communion.

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. :smooth:

Speaking of which, dh's grandma held off their grandpa's Memorial Service, until the Spring when everyone could come and also he had donated his body for research. It was delayed about 3-4 months.
Now that was different but turned out for the best.

Due to your circumstances, I think that your friends and family will understand the need to change the party date. Your child should have a celebration...in a child's life, First Communion is a big deal!!!!

You should probably have her be prepared to put on her Communion dress, in case anyone wants pictures.
