Promos not for DVC & AP?

We are traveling to OKW in June, 2009, using our points. Friends expressed an interest in joining us, when this new package was announced.

A studio at OKW with 2 adults under the promo is $2044.24.

The same studio is 109 points for the same time period. Another friend would transfer points to me for $10 per point. 8 day hopper passes from undercovertourist.com are $289.95 each. So

$1090 + $579.90 = $1669.90.

So my friends save $374.34 by NOT doing the package.

Exactly! Only when you compare this deal to Value or Moderates do you see any kind of savings. The Deluxe resort packages can't touch DVC. It does not bother me in the least when they make this offer, because we would not be happy for more than 1 night and would rather stay home.

It's like Black Friday deals. I can go stand in line for hours to try to get a good deal (that I might not get) or I can go with the sure thing. DVC is a sure thing. It is a deal no matter when we travel and we dont have to wait around for it. We are also not giving up our 1 Bed or larger accomodations, so if someone is willing to show me the math where a 1 bed Villa with ticket package costs me less than DVC and tix, Im willing to listen.

The tickets are front loaded for 4 days anyway, so they are not giving you more than $20 bucks off per tix when they give you the additional 3 days free. The room is rack for the first 4 days and then free the other 3. That's why Deluxe rooms are not going to be cheap.

And unless you are going to Disney for exactly 7 days, it may not compare too well even to values. I just priced the 8 night stay I have booked for June (2 Adults) in an OKW studio to a POP standard room with base ticket, not hopper. $1124.00 quote, 108 DVC points at $10 = 1080. Now, our points aren't costing us $10, so let's lower it to about $7, to include our actual purchase price and a dues increase for 2009. That brings the cost to $756.

1124.00
-756.00
368.00 savings for a studio vs. Value resort.

That about pays for one AP. If I include the price of both APs, it is a break even. I'd rather stay in a DVC studio and have the hopper privileges included with the AP, than a non-hopper value package for the same price. And get another trip out of the APs

I never really understand this.

1. The "DEALS" are not that good!!! The "free tickets" are a HUGE $10 savings. (Try not to spend that all in one place). The "Free rooms" are only if you pay rack rate. Rack rate in January for a studio at OKW??? $295!!!! Bringing the "discount" to $168 a night. I love OKW, but a studio there is NOT worth that LOL!

2. When you purchased from Disney did you pay attention? You were buying lodging from DVC. To expect them then to "pay" you to come was a little unrealistic.

3. Nothing is stopping anyone from taking advantage of the deal. Rent your points and get a room. Of course a studio at OKW for the 7 nights takes 80 points so at $10 a point you get $800. The cost of the "deal" for 7 nights is $1413 at OKW for one adult. (Well it nets to $1213 if you get the gift card!) Maybe it's me but $1,413 is a "deal" I can pass up! LOL!

The best suggestion I have seen is: if you really hate the fact that DVC can't take advantage of the promo, book a cash room with the promo, bank your points, and have a big blowout stay next year on the banked points.

This might not work if they have an even bigger promo next year though.

You are not being penalized. You do not have to be encouraged to book a trip. These "deals" are not rewards for frequent customers, they are incentives to get people who would not otherwise book a trip to book one. If all of us protest and refuse to book DVC trips then they could sell the DVC rooms through CRO I guess. They still wouldn't have to give us stuff to get us to book. We already said we'd book by buying points.

One of the reasons why I love owning DVC (and we occasionally buy the AP for twice-yearly trips) is that I don't have to run around the internet looking for coupon codes or wondering "did I get the best deal?"

We never stayed at Value resorts pre-DVC (usually CBR or FW) so these deals really don't hold any value to me. I plan on owning my points for the life of the contract and the savings of now 46 years of pre-paid resort accomodations is better than the latest and greatest deal for a value resort. I love my DVC! :thumbsup2

I made a different decision when the Visa free dining came out for Dec -- no points left for this use year. I am staying at ASSp for the first time with my DS20 and DD25. I have always wanted to visit other than Christmas week and this just seemed wonderful. DS and DD are excited, and we have great ADRs and will do MVMCP.

When the 4/3 offer came out I was a little sad we already have reservations for Vero in Feb. DH teaches HS and we're locked into school vacations until he retires (which he could do, but promised the students he'd teach one more year). With an April use year, we can't use the points before we'd lose them (borrowed a few) and so we can't stay at the GF in Feb as he would like to. I know we will enjoy Vero--and we would have also enjoyed taking advantage of the 4/3 offer to stay at the GF.

YMMV

I have a question, and I'm wondering if anyone here has also run into the same issue. I have 2009 vacations booked already with my points, and I am an AP. SHould I get 3 nights of "free stay" with no points deducted for my vacations, and still get the $200-$500 DIsney Dollar Gift card being offered in the new promo? Or am I penalized for being a DVC'er and AP, so I get nothing out of it. I know I get to be in WDW and wouldn't trade that away, but if someone calls and books today and gets lots of perks, why as Disney's covetted DVC and AP'ers could we be left out on any deal?

DVC can't give you free nights. Disney owns only a small percentage of each sold out DVC resort and members own the rest. They can't legally give away something that doesn't belong to them.

Have you stayed at the GF?

My GF stay was one of the reasons I joined DVC. I was RUNNING from there and Disney's overall lackluster "Deluxe" but the GF was truly the most disappointing stay I have ever had at Disney. (And I have done the values, mods and deluxes)
