They should show up if on the site if you search by your zip code (they're in Nottingham).

Their actual website is http://www.orgsites.com/nh/nhseacoastprojectlinus/ but as PP noted, you have to sign up through the Disney/Hands On website for it to count.

Thank you for the information. I found them under the general listings of who was accepting volunteer work. Yes, I'm already signed up with the Disney/Hands on website.

Can you tell me about how many & what type/size of blankets you made for them. I'm now waiting for a response back from them to me. :tigger:

I did my blankets trough the Nottingham one, I went to Joanne's and bought the large kit. We did one double tie fleece per person, my son didn't have to do his own just help. She told me that she will take all kinds - double fleece for winter and single for summer. She left a lot of it up to me. Once the email from Disney gets to her she responds quick. Seemed like all hours of the night. :) I sent my blankets on Monday and had my vouchers Thursday. I don't think she even received them until Wednesday. Good Luck! Hope you here from her soon.

I was going to have the kids do the polar fleece no sew blankets. The chapter I signed up with wanted two per person if you did polar fleece and one if it was quilted or crochet. After pricing out all the materials, it was way cheaper to buy pre-quilted material and buy the binding and sew it together.

We have 7 family members signed up and if we all did the no sew fleece it would have cost us 140.00 (10.00 a yard x 7 people x 2 blankets) doing the quilts it is costing us aprox. 90.00 (13.00 a blanket x 7 x 1per person). It's much cheaper for us anyways. We're happy we are able to do this and getting the disney tickets is a big bonus but what is everyone else spending on Project linus?

We did 2 double fleece blankets that were each approx. twin size. I bought the fleece on sale at Joanne Fabrics and spent about $50 total for both.

We did the double layer fleece blankets, and the cost was about $25 each. I delivered them today, and will watch for the vouchers in my email! :yay:

I bought material for 4 single-layer polar fleece blankets. So with the material and a rotary wheel, it was $35.

I am doing the same thing. I have a bunch of fabric I have purchased over the years that I never used so I am going to do quilts. Much cheaper than making 6 of the fleece blankets.

I am so happy I found this thread. I tried typing in Disneyworld, Fl as my location and was able to sign up for the national headquaters. My husband and I have to make one blanket each by March 18th. I am so glad I am able to do this! The only thing around me I was interested in was food organizing at a food bank a few towns away, but with I was afraid if I signed up and it snowed or something I would have to cancel. Thanks!

Thank you for the response. The info was very helpful. I'm also going to do some volunteer work at the Beford Animal Rescue League. I know I won't get extra tickets but it's nice to help out! I'm sure she'll reply soon to my message.

Looking forward to making blankets, I was able to sign my family up last night:banana: I had been checking the site on and off and it is now availible for my area.:surfweb:

Just finished making the blankets and wanted to post them. I started with 36" x 60" and after knotting my fringe I ended up with 31" x 50". So keep that in mind when getting the fabric cut. She said my measurements were fine, but next time I'll get two yards of fabric for each blanket.

We did 4 - two pirate-themed for boys and one Hannah Montana and one High School Musical for girls. They turned out sweet!

Also, ask before you wash. My contact said the hospitals will steam-clean them for you, so not to worry about doing it myself.

I think I spent about $35 for the material and a rotary cutter. Each blanket took about 90 minutes or more. It was fun and we'll do it again!

At this point I'd be thrilled if anyone from either of the two PL chapters near me would just contact me back. :)

I would like to make a simple quilt.

any reccommendation for directions?

wash fabric
sew the wrong sides together (top, batting, bottom) on three sides

turn right side out and sew 4th side

How do you tack the quilt together ?
I have a Raggedy Ann quilt from my grandma where she used yarn knots. That would be a choking hazard, right?
Buttons would be too?

How do you keep the quilt together in the center?

thanks disers! :worship:

They really are great!! :thumbsup2

We have 5 to make next week and I'm doing a PoTC one from a piece of fleece that I bought a couple of years ago because I was sure I'd use it for something, LOL. It's still in the bag brand new. It's a giant Captain Jack :lovestruc.

I'm glad you posted pics of yours because I wasn't sure what the single layer ones would look like but they are awesome! Great job! :)

Now I just have to pick out 4 new pieces ~ there are so many different patterns.

Maybe I need to register with another chapter, since my local Project Linus will only accept hand sewn or crocheted blankets,:confused3

That could be a rule, some will do that. While they are really nice, most dont require that.

We found a chapter that's about 30 miles away, but it's a 'make them at home' deal so we're going to do that. They were actually 'suggesting' we just make the no sew fleece ones. I have a feeling the kids like the bright colors / prints more. They suggested looking in the discount area even, as there is usually some nice kids friendly prints there. Plus almost every week hobby lobby has a 40% off coupon that you maybe could use. Appears that 7-$10 / yard, so for 3 yards to make 2 blankets would be about $30 for 2. So about $210 total, but you get basically $560 in tickets (7 of us) so we'll do that. They require 2 blankets, so the no sew will still be less.

In case anyone around central ohio is looking (or south of columbus, down I-71) the washington courthouse will allow you to make 2 per person and deliver them on one of 3 dates. They could probably also allow you to make a different time, or maybe even mail them.

I know that some walmart still have fabric. My friend got fleece about a month ago for like $3.00 a yard. She went to the Cumming, Ga Walmart and I know that the Loveyjoy, GA walmart has fabric too.

please be careful about the double fleece - dd and I have been working with our church for Project Linus for 2 years now - our chapter ( Illinois) does not accept the double fleece blankets - the hospitals are the ones that set the requirements for the blankets. Several of our crochet -ers crochet around the fleece for the baby blankets - we look for "boy" friendly fleece as that is the hardest to find at times!!

My husband, two older boys and I made four double-sided no-sew fleece blankets (print on one side, coordinating solid color on the other), and then decided to make a 5th smaller extra blanket to donate on behalf of our youngest, who is too young to participate in GAD. The total cost was about $100 for fabric - we bought the anti-pill fleece because it's supposed to wash well.

Last weekend, we all went to the monthly meeting of a Project Linus chapter about 2 hours away from our house to deliver our blankets, meet other volunteers and meet the coordinator. We spread out the shopping, blanket making, and card making (our kids attached cards) and the delivery over about a week, and we loved this project, working on this together, and this organization!! We just contacted our local Project Linus (which is not participating in GAD) so that we could continue working with this wonderful organization in the future!!! It's great to see all of this support for Project Linus!!

Also, NBC nightly news did a feature on project linus, and you can see the clip on the NBC website - really got our kids excited about the project!

Finally, vettechick 99 - great blankets!!!

We were able to sign up with a chapter about an hour from here ...my DH had to drive by it so I knew I could get the blankets there... we each made 2 blankets at about $22 per person... so I roughly spent $66 for the 6 blankets... we delivered them on Wednesday of last week and had our vouchers by Sunday.... it was pretty easy... and we have done these blankets many times so we were quick at them... I think we were able to finish all six in less than 8 hours total....

I'd definitely recommend checking first, too! I was about to make the single layer fleece blankets, because the instructions for single layer are on the Project Linus website, but when I checked with the chapter we signed up for, they asked for double. They said that it's very chapter-specific, and that some really need single and others really need double.
