Should SSE be replaced by a Rollercoaster?

  • Yes, Its time for a change.

  • No, Its fine the way it is. A little paint and it is set.

  • Im not too sure. I want more information on what kind of rollercoaster.

How about, "I wouldn't mind seeing a new attraction, but not a coaster."

Bring on the COASTER, and the sooner the better! They should put a "soaring" ride in the World Showcase, as well!

If they get rid of Space Ship Earth I will not go back to WDW EVER again.

Yes I will, but I will truly be heartbroken :(

I would never want them to get rid of the icon of Spaceship Earth, but I would have no problem with them putting a thrill type ride, such as a coaster within it! Epcot needs something new and exciting to draw new visitors and excite veteran visitors. One or 2 E ticket rides is a start, but they need to expand on it. I think that Future World would be greatly suited to a more thrill- type attraction venue. I know that my opinion may not be overly popular, but let's face it... Future World NEEDS SOMETHING!!!

I can't even look at a coaster without getting sick. Please leave my rides alone!! By all means spruce them up, update them, add some mild thrills but no more supercoasters. The coaster enthusiasts have so many parks--that's all most parks invest in anymore. Disney is just about the only place I can enjoy any rides.

I wouldn't mind a coaster or a soarin' ride, but not at Spaceship Earth, some place else at Epcot.

In my opinion either putting a rollercoaster inside SSE or replacing SSE with a "Soarin' over Florida" or something would completely undermine the educational, yet fun and full of discovery theme of Future World. It might attract more thrill-ride type of visitors, but the vision of Epcot would be gone- you might as well slap the name "Islands of Adventure" on the park.....oops, that one's already taken....

I wouldn't mind seeing a coaster put in SE. It could still have some educational benefit to its themeing somehow. I think epcot could use an e-ticket or two to attract more visitors(although epcot is already my favorite park). also, can someone explain to me what a soaring ride is please?

I voted no because I don't think it should be a coaster. I think it would be a great idea to update the current attraction with new effects/show elements, or even to completly re-do it, but it should not become an attraction that excludes young children and the "motion averse".

Disney has the ability to create an E-ticket attraction that does not involve a coaster, or other "physical thrill" to make it appealing. I just wish they would use that ability. (Soarin' has a height requirement as well).

Kevin, "Soarin' Over California" is an attraction at Disney's California Adventure. Its meant to give you the sensation hang gliding over various sights in California. The "seats" are like the seats on a hanging roller coaster, meaning your feet dangle. The ride is in a building with a large movie screen in front. It does have a height requirement, though I can't remember what it is off hand. Its an excellent ride and is very popular. The only real criticism of it is that unlike attractions like Tower of Terror, Splash Mountain and Pirates of the Carribean, it has no real surrounding story to it. Minimal queue themeing, no real show effects, other than the ride itself.

thanks matt. I agree with you that the new attractions don't have to be coasters. In fact, that's one of my favortite things about disney is how they theme their rides/attractions. Whatever they do, I think it needs to be a signature attraction to be inside SE. You know, something that will symbolize EPCOT and live up to being put in that location. not just something different for difference sake. thanks for the expo. on soarin.

I too had heard that the existing Spaceship Earth 'attraction' was to be replaced by a different attraction.

I wouldn't mind a coaster or a soarin' ride, but not at Spaceship Earth, some place else at Epcot.

Well, I don't think they should change it either !! -- they should keep it the way it is, but i wouldn't mind a new coaster or something, in world showcase.

There are coasters everywhere. There's a Paramount park 40 miles from us where we can get all the coasters we want. MK and MGM have thrill rides. Epcot has Test Track and soon (don't we all hope) Mission: Space. It does not need another thrill ride!

If the attraction inside SSE must be replaced, I hope it will be something of the same caliber as what's currently there -- something that evokes the same sense of wonder, historical perspective and vision of the future.

I would be very upset if they turned SSE into a coaster. I can see that it does need a rehab, but I would much prefer an attraction similar to what it is now, just updated. They can really do some interesting things with it that can still have a "wow" factor without it being a thrill ride.

Not that i am accusing anyone here... but just a reminder this is JUST A RUMOR and could in fact change. Good discussion... having a rollercoaster someplace else in EPCOT is a good idea but not in SSE.

None of the above- Maybe a retooling of SSE. I think SSE is fine, but a "up-date" would be nice.I don't see a RC unless it can tie in to the EPCOT concept somewhere. TT is a good example of where education and fun (thrill ride?) made a good compromise.:bounce:

Keep the dark ride aspect of Spaceship Earth-maybe just spruce up the track, etc.. Not everyone loves thrill rides:) Soaring over something should go in one of the countries. Body Wars needs to go. An E-ticket should go there. Give the Living Seas some natural light and real coral. Add a river ride or Black Forrest dark ride to Germany. Japan should get an attraction. So should UK.

Gosh!!

You have a lot of interesting and creative ideas there PatriciaH -- Maybe you should contact Disney about getting on to one of their Imagineers teams!!

Thanks Carene!

I was trying to think what should go in Japan and the UK. At first I though of something with Mary Poppins for the UK but did not know if it went with the educational theme of Epcot. But El Rio and Malestrom are kind of "fun"in there own way. Maybe have cars with umbrellas over them and fly over some of London's rooftops and buildings (St. Pauls, the park) like Peter Pan-everyone loves that ride. Japan was supposed to get an attraction according to the Epcot book I have. It was called "Meet The World" a show about the history of Japan. Germany WAS supposed to get a river ride. Maybe they thought there were too many at that point. There is space behind the pavilion for something. Also the book shows Africa as one of the future countries.
