If that's what I think it is, it's a word similar to 'jerk' here in the US. Perhaps it originally referred to ************, but that is not the association any longer.

P.S.- bloody isn't an insult/curse word here either.

That's the one! There are other words that are 'naughty' in the UK but are not really used elsewhere. However, as I said, perhaps the moderators would like to speak to AndyB (the OP of this thread) or one of the other UK posters and find out which words would be offensive to people from the UK. A profanity is a profanity and I wouldn't want my child reading words like 'pissed' or 'fanny' on a board as the meaning is very offensive in my house!

I did not want to start a test of lots of words here I was genuinely bemused as some of the works censored, but it is true that some of the words this applies to have very mild or innocent usage here and some which seem to get through have much more adult usage which although might be heard in single sex company or in an adult type situation (sports game) but which I would not be appropriate in a family environment.

So is your concern with the boards filter that "baby talk" needs to be spoken, or that some "adult" words are allowed??

I originally wanted to be able to make sure I pitched my posts at the correct level because some words were filtered which I would not have given a second thought to. Under these circumstances I was concerned that 'baby talk' would have to be the way. Since I started this I have learnt more how these filters work but this has highlighted the differences between the usage of language.
