Profanities

This is just my take on the words that are not allowed. First and foremost this is a family board including the CB. We don't know all of the ages of the people that post here but some are under 18. Also even though some don't post you always have lurkers, which again the age is unknown.
Because those could be considered not family, appropriate the censor gets them when typed.

I appreciate the reasoning but was surprised at some of the censoring some words which to me did not seem inappropriate, they would be words used in newspapers and on everyday TV. Kids use newspapers in school projects so those words would have been seen by children. Just trying to get the level righ without being rediculously petty.

It doesn't bother me. I don't know why some words pass and others don't. Just type what you want to say and let the filter do it's job. What concerns me is that some people still aren't aware that if a word is supposed to be filtered and you post any part of it such as the first and/or last letter or insert $ as a substitute, then that is considered attempting to bypass the filter and can earn you points.

Whoops I probably earned some in the original post but am not sure as I don't know if they are dodgy words or not. I thing in the UK some of our words have slightly different meanings or level of profanity ac=ssociated.

I must say that some words used in the US/Canada are considered 'rude' here in the UK so not sure if the filter would filter them out on here as this is an US based board?

Claire ;)

I was writing on a message board, the American Idol one and they bleeped out cockatoo turned it into BLEEPatoo.:)

OK, I skimmed the thread and have to try this out.

Dick Van ****.

eta: OK, that's what I thought. The **** part of his name is bad, but the rest is OK. :)

i've never been bleeped.. :confused3
maybe i should try harder.. :rotfl:

Most common curse words (with the exception of hell) are starred out. Also, AFAIK, ALL derogatory terms for those who are attracted to their own gender are also starred out.
I believe the N-word is also censored; not sure about other ethnic slang terms.

There are plenty of things on television that aren't acceptable in my home. So, just because it's on tv doesn't make it okay for me. Also, there are going to be words that have entirely different meanings here and in GB. Since this is a site based in the US, I guess the American owners get to make the call.

That's the funny part. The F words and the N word are edited, but most other slurs are just fine.

I don't get it, but it isn't my board, I don't make the rules. :)

Several posters didn't put a hyphen in boo-boo and had it blocked on another thread.

/badword filter ON

(okay, so you won't get that unless you played EQ but I'm tired and thought it funny)

My postings have been deleted from the original thread on welcome to the Dis Boards and I have received a warning but I am not sure what for!

So it seems Baby talk it is then.

Andy this is OT, but I noticed in 99 you stayed at the "Grotty Paris Hotel". Just curious if that was the actual name, or if "grotty" was an adjective inserted by you.;)

Grotty was definately an adjective. We has springs comming through the beds and when we complained after teh first night they just turned the mattress over... to a bigger spring.

Your link doesn't work.

ETA: Oops, should have read the whole thread first.

I guess we have established that "grotty" is an acceptable term here.

Not using profanity is NOT baby talk. It's called respect.
