From one month body tour:
The fetus has different DNA than the mother, it is not part of her.

You know, my life would be way easier if I could agree with you all. Everything would be easier. Decisions in life would be easier. Sleeping would be easier, because I wouldn't worry as much about if my daughter ever gets pregnant, I'll have to raise the baby. I wouldn't have to worry about people put in psoitions like Jenny was.

I wish I could agree with the pro-choice position. It would make things SO much easier. But the more I read about an embryo and a fetus. I JUST CAN"T AGREE.

Here's my 6 week, 2 day, ultrasound (and yes, I know the exact day she was conceived--communal *eewwww* all together now!), where you can see thumb-sucking was pretty much impossible for Fiona:

The dots and crosses show her, not the egg sac, from where she derived nourishment before the placenta was formed. The big "head" looking thing is the egg sac.

My last ultra sound was in 1994...I was 16 weeks pregnant and we jokingly called Jeremy skeletor. He was clearly fully formed at 16 weeks although not filled out, hence the skeletor nickname...My ultrasound 6 weeks earlier looked nothing like the one at 16 weeks.. Ultrasounds have also come a long way since 1994

I went back and read that post LadyShiva. I read it too quickly and totally misread that part. My apolgies.

I never said her feelings were wrong. I just said I didn't know anyone who'd ever had that kind of a response after a miscarriage before.

Okee dokee, apology accepted.

I guess now you know more people with that kind of response? It's a loss of hope, versus a loss of all hope. :confused3

Ultrasounds are still pretty scary... Here's a face-down pic from 20 weeks of 2.5 year old Fiona:

Heck, I had an ultrasound for a mammogram the other day. I'm glad the technician could read all the pictures and point out what was what. I think my rib scared me the most! :rotfl:

I don't see where it conflicts with my info, just omits the info that may be painful to you, such as brainwaves being able to be measured.

Measurable brainwaves is not the same thing as having a developed brain and central nervous system. A bug has measurable brainwaves and is *alive* too.

Can't suck a thumb that hasn't formed or separated from its webbing, for starters.

Heart formation - week 5. That would be 21 days at least after conception.

Ears, eyes, and nose... week 7. 49-14 days = 35 days.

Need more?

YOU DON'T HAVE TO AGREE.

But can you not understand that law should not be based on what makes YOU sleep easier at night?

As far as I'm concerned, that's ok. You've thought out your position after having considered all the evidence available, and it seems that you also recognize that others can and have considered the same evidence and have come to a different conclusion. I don't think anyone can ask more than that.

I can ask that her opinions and conclusions not have the force of law, when reasonable people can obviously differ.

Sorry, but I am not seeing much there...Looks like a weather sattelite photo to me!

As an aside, I never could see anything in an ultrasound. It all looks like shadows to me, even the late term ones I've seen.

One of my co-workers had an amazing one a few years ago. It looked almost like an actual photograph, you could really see the face and the arms and legs. I think it might have been at 6 months, though.

Yeah, I have to agree... The first ultrasound was a let-down. Here's the picture (from 20 weeks) that made hubby fall in love with Fiona--her cutie nose!

aaf.sized.jpg

And no, she didn't get it from either of us; we just lucked out! :thumbsup2

And frankly, my hubby had to have that nose to clue into the whole "my wife is having a baby" happiness. And he went to every appointment with me!

I've been wondering if going to all the pre-natal appointments with the pregnant mom makes men more or less against abortion. I've always known men to be more violently anti-abortion, but no real reason why except the lack of choice in the matter for them. I'm not meaning to be offensive, just puzzled about that strength of feeling. My hubby was no help when I asked him because he has no violent feelings about anything. :rotfl: Well, except someone doing Fiona or I wrong.

Anyone else have that experience or a different one?

Thanks in advance!
Brandie

With men, it's a control issue.
Whenever I see an anti-abortion bumper sticker on a car, I just KNOW there's a man driving - and when I pull up, there he is.

The person waving the fetus signs? White man, right? Right.

It's all about sexual control. They don't care about anyone's life.

The universe will implode!! Dogs and Cats sleeping together!! Chaos in the streets!!

ok, panic over. If WE can discuss this issue like reasonable humans WHY in the name of all that is Holy can't the Congress???

I really think it's money in the form of campaign contributions.

Where did I ever say it was a loss of all hope? :confused3

I get the feeling she doesn't view a first trimester embryo/fetus as a baby, therefore it's like you 2 are speaking different languages.
You will never agree on abortion because you will never agree on what a baby is

You are correct. A first trimester fetus is NOT a baby to me. The heart doesn't start beating until the 4th week and it may never start.

However, I have no problem with a 2nd trimester abortion if there is some birth defect. The test amniocentesis isn't done until the 2nd trimester and the results come back well into the 2nd trimester. And I cannot imagine the circumstances for a 3rd trimester abortion.

But, quite honestly, this has less to do with abortion than it has to do with privacy.
