Pro-BUSH = anti- DISNEY????

And flkhou, we all KNOW that Mr. Moore ALWAYS tells the whole truth and the ENTIRE story, don't we, and that he would never slant, distort, or even fabricate "facts" to further his own agenda

Here is a link that shows just how fair and even handed Mr. Moore is when he makes a documentary.

The injustice here is not so much to the viewer, as to the independent producers of real documentaries. These struggle in a field which receives but a fraction of the recognition and financing of the "entertainment industry." They are protected by Academy rules limiting the documentary competition to nonfiction.

Bowling is fiction. It makes its points by deceiving and by misleading the viewer. Statements are made which are false. Moore leads the reader to draw inferences which he must have known were wrong. Indeed, even speeches shown on screen are heavily edited, so that sentences are assembled in the speaker's voice, but which he never uttered. Bowling uses deliberate deception as its primary tool of persuasion and effect.

A film which does this may be a commercial success. It may be entertaining. But it is not a documentary. One need only consult Rule 12 of the rules for the Academy Award: a documentary is a non-fictional movie.

The point is not that Bowling is biased. No, the point is that Bowling is deliberately, seriously, and consistently deceptive.

Hmmmm, methinks I should have posted this on the DEBATE board ;)

tigercat, what you are seeing IS freedom of speech. Dixie Chicks, Michael Moore, Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, Barbra Streisand HAVE been able to voice strong opposition to the current administration, even when their rhetoric has not been factually correct.

Has there been any government backlash or sanction or retaliation against any of these US citizens? NO.

What IS happening, tigercat, is that these individuals have chosen to speak out against a US President who happens to be enormously popular with the MAJORITY of the population. Not everyone, certainly, and as you've seen, many here oppose his views and actions as well. But the FACT is that over 70% of the GENERAL POPULATION approve of his actions. Therefore, when someone does oppose the President, it is very likely that they will get some flak.

And indeed, the majority does also have the same freedom of speech (and choice of whether to attend Michael Moore's next movie or buy the Dixie Chick CD) as the vocal minority.

And there is no "no bullying" clause in the First Amendment. However, in a democracy as is the USA, the MAJORITY rules. And that is NOT bullying.

I will not see the movie. I will still go to WDW. I think Michael Moore has the right to make whatever, stupid movies he wants. It's my choice to see it or not. I am not into boycotting entire companies for certain things they do. But, if you are, I think that's great. My mom does, and has a hard time understanding why I don't. I love WDW and will continue to support it. However, I will not see a movie by Michael Moore; I think he's an idiot.

P.S. I support Bush too!

Willy -- Faygo is a soda, made popular by the ICP's habit of spraying it on their audience at their shows.

I definately believe strongly in the freedom of speech. As far as the Dixie Chicks go I like them and their music and still listen to them and will continue. Freedom of speech though doesn't say you don't have to live with the consequences of your words, which they are currently having to do. Is it just me that since 9/11 if you say anything remotely negative about our country you must by traitor? If you don't believe that we had just cause to go to war, you're not supporting the troops. I don't agree with lots of things our country does, but I'm still an American, I still love this country and wouldn't want to live anywhere else on the planet. Many seem to be lately go with the theme of "Love it or Leave It". I love it but I'm still going to voice my opinion with we do things that aren't right.....

I think that some of those who love the USA best are its most vocal critics--because we want our country to be the best that it can be and an example for the rest of the world.

I have worked in government relations (state level) for years. Politicians love complacent and uninvolved people who can be persuaded by election-time button pushing and buzz words. The few who are willing to speak up, write letters to the editor and demonstrate (on both sides of any issue) at least force some small measure of accountability. Yes, there are extremists on all sides, but no American should be afraid to speak up.

I have worked in government relations (state level) for many years. I have learned to question everything every politician says. The truth rarely has anything to do with what the public hears.

I would love the consequences the Dixie Chicks have. Sold out concerts and albums still selling.lol

The concerts sold out before they made their comments. Their album sales have plummeted 40%, and their airplay is significantly lower than it was before the comments. Not one of the four radio stations in Richmond that played them before the comments play them now.
