Printer for 12x12 Archival Scrapbooking

Any suggestions? I want to really be able to print out some wonderful photos and or digital scrapbook pages!

There are a number of printers that accept up to 13" x 19" paper, and these printers work well for 12 x 12 scrapbook pages.
Some prefer Epson, some prefer Canon, still others prefer HP. I use Canon printers and am happy with the results.

Canon's i9900 was just discontinued and may be a good deal if you find one. The replacement is the Pro9000, a similar printer but with a new ink formulation. The Pro9500 (and most Epsons) uses pigment inks, which last longer but do not have a wide a color gamut and may be more prone to clogging.
"Lasts longer" may or may not be an issue, most dye inks are rated to last up to 100 years when kept away from light and heat (and ozone).

For paper I prefer Ilford, their smooth pearl surface works well for scrapbooking where the page is usually in a sleeve. Btw, let the page dry overnight before placing it in the sleeve.

Disboards has a scrapbooking forum (in the Creative Community) where a lot of helpful people will answer many questions.

This Epson R2400 is supposed to be pretty good. A friend has one and really raves about it!

I have the R1800 which goes to 13 inches wide like the 2400. It costs a little less. THe Epson literature seems to sell the R2400 more for those who want to focus on fine art black and white prints, and the R1800 for color stuff. Although I use the photo rag papers from Inkpress and get amazing black and white prints with my R1800. I also print a lot of stuff directly onto 12x12 bazzill cardstock for scrapping.

Last time I looked HP had one that goes that wide for a little less, but it has larger ink droplets and not as many colors. When I got my R1800 the 2400 was not out yet and at that time it had the smallest droplets of any printer out, of course that was in 2005. NOw if only they would make an affordable 12x12 scanner. I am tired of stitching my layouts together!


One more thing, the R1800 (I don't know stats on the rest) can take roll paper so you can do banners up to 13" wide and over 40" long, you don't have to stick with the 13x19 papers. I did one for my DD's room, it cost much less than the large wall paper murals and was a lot faster than hand painting a mural. Also you can use the 13x19 paper to print 9 4x6 photos at a time. I do this and my cost per print is just under 20 cents, which is not too bad for printing at home!

Oops! I meant what kind of picture? Guess I veered even farther off topic than you thought! I'm just nosy and in a perpetual state of redecorating so I'm always interested to hear what other people do with their photos.
