Princess Weekend 2022

I just booked my room for race weekend, well my safety back-up room. I am still going to try to get a DVC rental but I didn’t want to bank on that then be stuck scrambling and dishing out $$$ for an on-site room. We booked a standard room at CSR, which I have only stayed at for 1 night before when we had to do a split stay as part of a conference. And it was still under construction when we were there so a bunch of stuff was closed down. I’m looking forward to seeing what it is really like now that construction is finished!
We are planning for the 23rd-28th because I am going to try to book Yoga and do the challenge. My husband is still undecided on the distance he wants to run, but is going to do one race and come with me! I was showing him course maps to try to persuade him to go for the HM. He has run a couple of HM but isn’t running at all right now and I think he is feeling a little intimidated by training. I’m hoping the temptation of running through MK will get him to the HM.

I'm at AKL with my DVC points, if you are interested in renting, I have points available all the time.

Also what is CORKSICLE
edited to add This is a rhetorical question, I clicked the ad and found out 😊

erm, just noticed this on the "events" 5k and 10k tab under Proof of time guidelines:

  • New this year, each runner will be assigned to one of 4 start groups which will have designated arrival times.

Very interesting. That is not on Wine and Dine or MW either.

Confirmed that the POT deadline is October 30th.

So there goes my marathon that occurs before the submission deadline of Nov 23rd.

We've got artwork from the virtual page as well. So it's Cinderella, Tiana, Mulan and Moana as the distances.

Now I'm starting to wonder if this is being done in an effort to spread out the runners and give everyone more opportunities on course. The start time has moved up to 5am. In 2015, it was 6:15am. EPCOT is opening at 10am in October 2021. So with staggered "arrival times" I'm wondering if they're going to spread the first person crossing and last person crossing to more than an hour. With four waves, maybe a start at 5am, 6am, 7am, 8am. Because even the 8am group would finish before 10am EPCOT open. Thereby allowing less course congestion for each individual runner. Rather than 12,000 runners finishing by 7am. Now you'd have 12,000 runners spread until 9am.

Something like Corral A starts at 5am. Last person crosses at 5:15am. Last person of Corral A must finish by 6:05am (5k*16 min/mile).
Corral B starts at 6am. Last person crosses at 6:15am. Last person of Corral A must finish by 7:05am (5k*16 min/mile).
Repeat for Corral C and D.

Curious as to how this will be implemented...

ETA: If each corral is given equal time on course (Corral A gets 65 min, Corral B gets 65 min, Corral C gets 65 min, and Corral D gets 65 min), then it would actually depress the value of entering a more than generous estimated running pace. Because under the current system a Corral A runner gets about 120 min on course and a Corral D runner gets 50-65 min on course. It'll come down to whether they're actively clearing the course behind the Corral A runners or whether they're allowed to stay on course for the entire 4 hours. Curious.

And I'm obviously speculating on all of this.

Interesting. My thought was more around breaking up,and spreading out the runner arrival times into the staging area so that you didn’t have everyone all jammed in there together. It’s an outdoor environment, but more space per runner leading up to the race can only be helpful from a transmission perspective.

I thought that too, but why for Princess and not Wine/Dine and MW then? And using just Princess, why for the 5k/10k and not for the HM? That's what leads me to believe it may be more about access on the course itself. It's curious and has many thinking about all types of new logistics.

Separately, did confirm the awards are staying Overall (as with Wine and Dine and MW). No more age group awards will be mailed out.

I’m excited now (ok, yes—I was excited before, but I’m more excited now)

I assumed it was because the 5k and 10k courses could be kind of "closed", and not affected by buses coming and going to pick runners up and drop them off? The half being more likely to be disrupted by bus traffic? I don't know the courses by heart but that was my assumption.
And I assumed they just hadn't thought they would need it when they were doing signups for W&D or MW but now they do.

Well, it looks like I'll be trying for the 5K. Cinderella is my mom's favorite, but she hasn't been very active since her knee replacement in early 2020. This was good motivation, so I talked her into it by offering to come do it with her. Now her sister (my aunt) is in and my sister might be too!

Looking at the Princess Half Proof of Time section, it does talk about the 4 start group thing. Still doesn’t explain why it’s only for Princess and not for the earlier race weekends, but at least they’re being consistent for all the Princess races.

Oh yeah weird it is there... I didn't notice it before. We all must have missed it because it's there in Billy's screenshot.
