Princess Weekend 2022

I have a really basic question - what happens between the time you get into the corral and the race start? Is it really just standing around for an hour +? I will be in the back of the pack for the HM, and I was planning to get the corral 30 min before my start time (which will probably be after 5am). Or what to others recommend?
If you are alone, that is the worst time for me. You might be able to sit, but the ground is often wet, so plan for that if you want to sit. Mostly it is standing and waiting.
I usually bring a cheap fleece blanket to either keep warm or sit on (or both). And then toss it before I start. Yeah - I’m not a fan of extended standing, makes my feet hurt a lot more than running! So - I try and be prepared to sit on hard asphalt.

I really need to be sure to pack throwaway clothes/blankets, and more layering options. I certainly learned my lesson during Princess 2020. It was rainy/misty and freezing cold during the 5K, and I was definitely unprepared. I ended up shopping for a fleece jacket and gloves in Disney Springs that afternoon. I ran with that for the 10K, which wasn't great for race photos but at least I was warm. I didn't want to carry it for the half so I tried to stick it out, but I was freezing in the corrals. Before the start I admittedly took a huge fuzzy blanket that had been discarded on the barriers. I thought I'd dispose of it after the start, but it took me so long to get warmed up that I actually ran/walked with it almost until the Magic Kingdom entrance sign! :cold:

It won't be my thighs that chafe, but my arms from rubbing on all that tulle :rotfl2:

Yeah when I did my test run with my tutu I noticed that having lazy/long arms was definitely going to be something to be aware of. Dh is going to be on standby on Sunday to pick up a discarded tutu if needed. I’m looking at maybe getting some of those arm sleeves to prevent the arm chafing if it ends up being an issue. Oh! And I’m pinning my tutu to my leggings so it can’t ride up

Adding another thing to my “Disney Supplies” list on Amazon 😆

Me too! The weather is so deceptive. Because you’re waiting in the corrals for so long, and it’s so early in the morning, the temperature you get at that point can be pretty chilly and then when you start running and the sun comes out and gets very hot. The parking lot start is also really windy, or it has been for every race I’ve done there. Even if the actual temperature is not too bad that wind cuts. I typically end up running the race in basically summer running clothes and then freezing while I’m waiting on the race to start.

@azrivest The tutu is really cute! The sleeves are really good idea because they can do double duty as chafe protection and to keep you warm at the start.

For cold and wet mornings, we bring giant lawn-sized garbage bags and tear a hole in the bottom so it can fit over our heads. Keeps the wind and rain off until start time. (And, for me, if it’s really cold, the garbage bag is on top of a throwaway sweatshirt, sweatpants, and warm wool cap.)

I see the characters on the logo, but any idea which character will be with what race? Cinderella for the Half? Tiana for Challenge? What about Mulan, Tiana, and Moana?

Thanks in advance

I think most people are assuming the artwork, from left to right, will reflect the 5k, 10k, half, and challenge, in that order. So that would be Mulan for 5k, Cinderella for 10k, Moana 1/2 and Tiana for the challenge. But nobody knows yet. We will probably (?) find out before Club rD registration in a week(!)

Yep. But there's people all around, costumes to admire, and the race commentators on big screens to watch and listen to. Also, music.

Big trash bags are amazing to keep you warm.

Good idea. Just being brushed against by bigger tutus hurts; I can't imagine wearing one without protecting my lower arms somehow.

The logo for Princess 2022 is VERY similar to the logo for Princess Weekend 2020; so similar, in fact, that the exact same Moana artwork is used in the same position in both logos. In 2020, the order of princesses was 10K, half, 5K, challenge. I hope that's not the case this time, as that would mean both the 2020 and 2022 5Ks would have Moana theming. Mulan was on the 10K medal in 2019, and Tiana on the challenge medal this year. I hope they mix it up more. On the other hand, I think the Wine and Dine medals are amazing this year, so I hope that even if they do repeat themes, the medals are awesome.

Interesting tidbit: I have pictures on my phone from two years ago today of the runDisney products page with pictures of each item available for preorder for the 2020 Princess Weekend. The medal replica pins showed up as black/gray ribbons with question marks where the medal would be, likely because the medals hadn't been released yet. I remember it being a big deal that we actually got to see what the preorder items looked like!
