Princess Weekend 2022

OK so now we know that it's happening and when... What's everybody's plan? What race(s) will you try to sign up for? What's your registration strategy?
I really want to run the Challenge. That's my first choice. If that gets sold out I'll try for the half. We plan on being at WDW anyway because it's the start of spring break for us, so, as long as we are there, I'll try to get anything at all if I can.
As for registration, I was counting on TA bib availability, but that looks like it is not happening. And registration is happening in the middle of a first class meeting of the semester for me, so there is no way I can do that. My supportive DH said he would get in the fray and register me. Frankly he is more competent than me in most things so it might be for the better. He managed to get us Rise of the Resistance boarding groups twice during our last WDW trip so I have faith!

My plan sounds similar, try for Challenge if that fills up then just the half. We have 3 computers in the house and 2 cell phones, so my plan is to log in all of them and my DH says he will help me out too. If that fails which I really hope it should not I will do a charity. Never done a charity before but I will do what I need to do to run this race.

Same here, aiming for the Challenge. I'm coming from Canada, so I really want to get my money's worth  Otherwise either the 10k or the HM, whichever I can get. I'm going to sign up with a charity as soon as I can, I can't deal with the uncertainty of registration day on the 24th.

I'm booked at CSR via my TA from the 24th to the 27th.

My plan is to do all three races during the weekend. So if that's 5k+Challenge, or 5k+10k+HM, I'm fine either way (the challenge medal/t-shirt holds little significant value to me). My daughter (will be 8 at the time) and I are doing the 5k together. I'll adjust my level of concern about availability after we see what happens with WD and MW. But I would put my current concern level at low in terms of being able to register on opening day at opening time. I'll have the standard laptop with a window or two of different browsers. But I'll be more aggressive if need be. I'm judging the interest in the race by this thread vs past year's threads and there just seems to be only a few of us here. But we'll see.

Yes we'll see! I want to see this as a glass half-full situation, as we are all so excited races are back!

I know it sucks for APs to not get early registration, and I'm bummed that my TA won't get bibs, but now we have something to look forward to (and train for!) And if I can't get a bib, I'll still be on the sidelines cheering all the racers on.

I'm planning for the 5K and the Challenge. In the past I've been able to get one on AP early registration, and the other on regular registration, so I'm stressing a little about this one. However, I was reminded about charity registrations last night on the other thread so I'm definitely leaving that open as an option if I don't get into one of them. My plan is to do what I did last year - line up multiple devices and grab the first one that opens up. I'm glad that we have Wine and Dine to use as a guide and see how that registration goes, and I plan to register for the Marathon in January, so I'll have some practice prior to Princess registration.

Edit to add: I've never used charity registration, but I think it would be a great way to get into the race(s) I wanted and support a good cause. I'm really excited that live races are returning, and I'm trying to stay optimistic!

Ohh you make me feel better, your right there are not as many people interested in this run as the Marathon weekend.

Honestly, right now it is a wait and see approach for us… Last year DD really wanted her first half to be Disney. Then she wanted it to be more local but everything is still pretty much canceled here. Except that she found a triathlon (super sprint for her age so a quarter of an Olympic) in July and is now focusing on that. DH isn’t sure he wants to use vacations for Disney. So it all depends if we can get some beach vacations this summer (border crossing). Otherwise, good luck skipping it in winter!

If it is a go, we would try either for the half or the challenge. Depends on DD. I might want the challenge anyway.

We already have AsMo booked for that time period.

I’m just aiming for the half. My long runs are much more enjoyable if I take off a few days from running in advance.
I too was hoping to use a TA like I did last year, but I still had her book my room at AoA.
Registration day: I’m blocking the morning off, and if I’m not still working remotely by late August, I will take the morning off so I can be at home with the laptop and 4 other devices logged in. This sort of thing really piques my anxiety, so I’m glad there are two registrations ahead of Princess so we know what to expect.

I'm curious what people anticipate for demand on this race...isn't Princess weekend always a fast sellout? ignoring even this years increased demand. I'm debating whether to try to with Charity bib for this race or risk registration. dang.

I'll go to 2019 for one more year's worth of data. I hope this eases everyone's mind. But we can compare historical data from MW 2020 to MW 2022 to see how quickly it sells before our race weekend goes on sale.

Princess Weekend

2021 (Presumed reduced availability)

Start (link)
10k sold out in 20 min. (link)
Challenge sold out in 23 min (link)
Half sold out in 26 min (link)
5k sold out in 28 min (link)

2020
Start (link)
5k and 10k sold out in 97 min (link)
Challenge sold out in Sept 2019 when registration was June 2019 (link)
HM sold out in Dec 2019 when registration was June 2019 (link)

2019
Start (link)
10k sold out in 57 min (link)
5k sold out in 10 hours (link) *Post about 1 hr earlier states only 10k sold out thus far
Challenge and HM still open 2 months later (October with August registration) (link)
Challenge sold out sometime between 2-3 months based on this and prior post (link)

I'll add, the 10k will almost always be the first to sell out. It's a popular distance, but unlike the 5k, the 10k is connected to the Challenge. So that means for every Challenge bib sold, that's another 10k bib (in theory) sold as well. So if the 5k and 10k have a similar starting point (say 12,000 runners), then if there are say 7,000 Challenge runners, it means there are really only 5,000 solo 10k bibs actually available.

The logo for the 2020 weekend was l-r Pocahontas, Cinderella, Moana, and the three fairies. Which translated to the 10k, half, 5k, and challenge. So if the 2022 logo is being used the way 2020's was, then it would be Mulan 10k (she was the 10k in 2019), Cinderella half (as she was in 2020), Moana 5k (as she was in 2020), and Tiana for the challenge (which I believe she was for 2021). All speculation on my part, of course, I'm just comparing one logo to the other.

If those are the princesses, it's a bit disappointing. Would like to see some of the princesses who haven't been used as recently as these. And if they are reusing those recent princesses, at least put them in difference races than the last time they were used. All my opinion, of course.

I think it is a placeholder until they figure it out. Just a quick and easy way to throw in a graphic. No way would they use the same exact artwork for a different year.

I’m going to try to register for the Half. I’ve never done Princess Weekend so I’m super excited! Hoping my sis can join me on the trip or else I’ll be flying solo which is fine too. Registration day I’ll only be on my phone and iPad. Are there usually any issues using iPhone/pad to register?

Thanks! Why is data so comforting? Lol. I had no idea the halfs in 19 & 20 took that long to sell out. I do vaguely remember races being available for CMs to register for, presumably when they still have lots of spots late in the year.

As I mull things over about the demand for the race... There is now a virtual option for all the races. I wonder if that may possibly lessen demand a bit for the actual in person race? If perhaps people who like the races, but still feel unsure about actually taking part in one in person just yet, may instead opt to do virtual this time around. Since this is the first time (that I am aware of) that they are offering both in person and virtual options, if that could impact demand for actual in person bibs.

Let's discuss costume ideas now! I am just too excited and have been thinking about it all year.

What are you costume ideas?

So first how strange would it be to wear the same costume for two runs?

My first costume idea Vanellope von schweetz princess dress from Wreck it ralph. I want it to be over the top so thinking to save money to just wear that twice.
My second costume idea I have a simple Elsa outfit so wear that and save money buy not buying a second costume.

My irrational fear is reduced capacity, watching the live races sell out and being left with only virtual options... :sad1: BUT then I'll race to the charity options and hope for openings there!
