Princess Weekend 2022

So this would be my first time doing the Princess Half. Does the course stay the same from year to year usually?

Wow! I just looked earlier too, I even sent an email to ACS to request to be added to their email list. Their website had 2022 information already, but it did say it was subject to change.
Out of curiosity...what's the pledge for charity bibs usually? I'm betting this year may be different.
It's my back-up plan, but I intensely dislike fundraising so I'll likely be forking over whatever the full pledge is out of pocket if I go this route.

depends on the charity and the distance you want to sign up for. It goes anywhere between 500$ to 1500$

I remember when preparing for 2020 that I was warned a lot about "the onramp" with dread...I'm still not 100% sure if people were talking about the loop at mile 10 or between 11/12 closer to Epcot (I assumed the former as 11/12 is more of a bridge if I recall). ANYWAY. I was on that mile 10 onramp a couple weeks back during our trip for the first time since running over it during the half and I was regaling my husband with the tale of how I was expecting this steep incline and how relieved I was that it really wasn't. It feels like a gentle slope in a car, but the camber is amplified on foot. I also realize I live in DC where it is somewhat hilly and am used to elevation changes, and don't have mobility issues that would make it more challenging.

Just learned that we need to arrive at WDW 2/17 for my daughters gymnastics meet….so to make it all the way to the PHM we will need a 9 night stay.

Rack rates and return flight are scary $$, especially since we’re doing a 12 night DCL cruise to Italy/Greece next summer. Debating staying for the 5k only, or booking and hoping for deals to come along! Disney decisions are the hardest!

Exactly this! I’ve never done charity registration before but I would definitely do it if I can’t get in on registration day. I started looking yesterday and this morning at a couple charities. Each one has different rules and fundraising amounts. I took screen shots of two of them. Here are their numbers, as a general guide. Some might be less, but I looked primarily at the more commonly known charities to start (I’ll be more likely to receive donations from people if they’re familiar with the charity).

American Cancer Society:
Their website was updated for 2022 but said “some of this information is subject to change pending runDisney’s rules and restrictions for the 2021-22 race season”
5K = $550
10K = $675
Half = $1,000
Challenge = $1,500

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals:
Their website wasn’t updated yet. It still had info from 2021, shown below.
5K = $800
10K = $900
Half = $1,000
Challenge = $1,200
Challenge & 5K = $2,000

The list of charities has been removed. Guess they're updating it in the coming days? I heard back from a couple of charities that they'll have more info soon.
woah... that's actually surprising and concerning. well maybe not concerning per se, since every charity i contacted said something to the effect that rundisney was asking them to submit their allotment requests this morning (friday), so it implies that they were going to have charity bibs... hope they didn't change their minds

I wish they’d include a package that also had the sunrise yoga in it!
I would LOVE to do that sunrise yoga, but it would mean tacking on an extra day to my trip…it seems like a really special experience though. If I am able to successfully register for the half and check out…I might go back to register for that too if it’s still available.

Re: the race route:
When do you expect they will release the race route maps for 2022?
And for the 1/2, the route sections where we run through the highways or parking lots, do they have character sightings there or something to make it interesting? I’m really excited about running through the parks but the other portions on the route seem boring, lol

It varies from year to year. Usually the first definitive glimpse we get is when the Program comes out. That's usually around a month before the race (so mid-January). Some times we see the USATF course certification, but that could be more than a month out or days before the race.

And for the 1/2, the route sections where we run through the highways or parking lots, do they have character sightings there or something to make it interesting? I’m really excited about running through the parks but the other portions on the route seem boring, lol

Here's a 2019 Princess HM video:

Along the highways they typically have High School marching bands, DJs, some Disney performers, and a few characters. It's important to note we don't yet know what changes might come to these offerings in 2021 because of COVID-19.

Question: how bad is it getting to race starts from offsite? We think we’ll Uber it, but I’ve always stayed onsite and used their transportation and now I’m at a loss on how to do it any other way
I've stayed offsite for W&D, Marathon Weekend, and Star Wars (not Princess though). I always make sure to arrive within the first 30-45 minutes of them letting people in and I've never had a problem. It's nice because you are there plenty early for the race and you also don't have to deal with a crowded bus or worry about the bus getting lost.

These are the course maps I could find. Some small changes here and there, but by an large it's the same course.

Hmm. I really enjoyed the AK portion of the Star Wars race, but that's the only half I've ever done so maybe I should try for Princess since running in the MK would be a treat! I kind of want to see what the surprise weekend is: I really want the motivation of a Disney half again because that gives me the determination for regular training. So if the surprise is not a half I want to do Princess I think but if it is a half then I might like that and not Princess. But I expect they won't have "revealed the surprise: by the Princess reg date so I guess I'll just have to go with my gut...

I've run the Princess half twice (2019 & 2020). I loved the MK part of the course. Running down Main Street, running through the castle, getting that iconic photo in front of the castle... it's just a special moment that helps you justify all the stress of registration and training lol. However, I think it's only fair to mention that in the grand scheme of the 13.1 miles you're running that day, it feels like you blink and you're already out of MK! :(

I received an email from ACS today after I requested to be added to their email list. Here’s the info I received from them - I figured I’d share for anyone else thinking about registering with a charity:

Thanks so much for reaching out and for your interest in joining Team DetermiNation for one of the upcoming runDisney event weekends! The American Cancer Society/Team DetermiNation will be an official runDisney charity partner again and we will have entries to all four races in the 21-22 runDisney race season. Being a member of the team is a great way to make your miles more meaningful and we’d love to have you on the team!

I have added you to our email list. All charities are currently waiting on contracts from runDisney before we get the green light to open registration on our ACS websites. With that being said, I do not have a date I can provide you with that you should expect our registration to be open (I wish!). This will depend on runDisney. You will receive an email from me when our registration goes live. Please keep in mind, this email does not guarantee you a spot on the team. Entries will be available on first-come, first served basis, so please make sure you register shortly after receiving an email from me to secure your spot.

In the meantime, feel free to check out our FAQ page, our website, our video, and our runner testimonials. These will help you get a better understanding of the team experience and what to expect with Team DetermiNation. Please keep in mind some of the FAQ information could be subject to change based on runDisney alterations to in-person experience and/or processes.

Thank you for sharing! When you were looking at charity registration options, did you notice if they allow children under age 18 to do charity bibs?
