I'm throwing a Princess party for my daughter. I'm looking for some good menu ideas. There are going to be moms there too, so I would like to make sute there is food for us as well. I'm getting stuck for ideas. For the kids I was thinking I can make sandwiches that are crown shapped (i'm looking for that cutter) and i will have a cake too. But what else...
anyone have good ideas? We are having it at a place, so I can bring in anything i want. But I will have no access to a stove or microwave.
I'm hoping that some of you might have thrown this kind of party before.
Thanks!
Maura
I can help with this for sure.

This was my nieces theme from last year and I planned everything with my sister. She had (my sister ) decided on pirates and princesses because she thought the boys would think prince charming was lame. lol
My sister got a local bakery to make heart shaped rolls for her. then had cold ham and turkey for people to pick at.. It was nice because it was all made the day before. Ham just needed to be heated and we used a turkey fryer for the turkey. ( we had the party in aug and i guess everyone was hungry for turkey because that 20 pounder was picked clean! ) Along with the ham and turkey, we had lettuce, tomato and onion, condiments.. etc And we had slices of cheese cut in the shape of stars.. we saved the scraps and we made homemade baked mac and cheese
For the mac and cheese, we let that cool overnight, then cut on tray with a crown cookie cutter and the other with a skull cookie cutter. We heated them on cookie sheets and then transferred them to a chafing dish. we seperated layers but placing a sheet of parchment paper in between. then we kept them warm by placing them over sterno.
For the girls, I had rice krispie treats in the shape of stars..I made them pink and purple thanks to a little food coloring in the marshmellow. Then i poked them with wooden grilling skewers and tied silver ribbons around the sticks at the top.. ( thus making little wands ) we had extra on the table without sticks i should add , same for the boys stuff below.
For the boys, we made black ones. ( i am sure you could make the peanut butter and choclate ones but we have a peanut allergy and are very careful with stuff like that ) The orignial plan was to have them in the shape of skulls and cross bones.. but they looked like blobs, so we rolled them into little balls and then flattened the balls and make them into coins and threw them in ziploc baggies. As bags of "loot" ( maybe a ship would have worked better but I ended up liking the portability of the little baggies )
I have teeney metal cookie cutters for making designs on pie crusts so I used those to cut cheese cubes, in stars, hearts and diamonds. Same with the ring bologna.
We had a usualy fare for sides, potato salad, macaroni salad.. baked beans. Chips and pretzels. Veggie tray and a fruit tray.. ( my sister made a fruit dip with marshmellow fluff and cream cheese.. It was really good but then she added the pink food cloring and it looked like pepto bismol. I would suggest leaving it white. LOL )
For an activity, ( we only had 9 girls ) we let the girls decorate a beige apron with a bedazzler and iron on transfers. ( it was also their party favor ) and we dressed the boys ( 6 boys ) up as pirates.. bandanas on their heads and eye patches, sashes around their waist and foam swords. ( i think she got everything for the girls at
walmart and for the boys at oriental trading company ) It worked out great because the little girls were having so much fun while the boys were occupied running around stabbing each other and balloons with the swords.
The cake was a regular girly cake since it was a girls birthday. I had voted for a black and white cake.. I had seen a checkerboard cake on Ace of cakes.. I thought a black and white checkerboard cake with fondant icing, and a raised shiny gold crown would look awesome.. but money excluded that option. LOL Had I known how to do it I might have tried myself.
Anyway, HTH
Wanted to add, we are close to Lancaster, PA so I got all my cookie cutters here.. they are the old school metal ones. If you are still trying to find some, let me know and I'll see if I can locate some for you
This site
http://www.sugarcraft.com/D-cookiecutters.htm has crowns, cinderellas slipper, and a castle. Didn't see anything pirate if you decided to take that route, but i simply searched metal cookie cutters.
