Did anyone else trip on Prince doing the new Foo Fighters hit in his set last night at the Superbowl? I mean I was pleasantly surprised but very very shocked. I am a big Foo Fighters fan, but never in a million years would think that Prince of all people would cover one of their songs, particularly at the Superbowl when he can only do 4 or 5 songs.

Does anyone know what was behind that? I'm just assuming that Prince is a huge Foo Fighters fan and just really loves the song, otherwise I can't imagine why he would have done that.

All in all I thought Prince did a pretty good job considering they had to do it in the pouring rain. Was pretty appropriate for Purple Rain though.

It was a nod to the Foo Fighters. They covered 'Darlin Nikki' a year or so ago.

I'm assuming he must also be a really big fan of the Foo Fighters too, otherwise I can't imagine why he would do a cover tune of theirs at the limited slots he had for the SB. I mean doing it at a regular concert or something would not have been that big of a deal, but doing it at the SB was really odd, but I liked it.

I can't believe how much I liked the SP half time show that Prince put on. I never watch these shows but did this year because I was at someone's house. I was running him down right as he started, then I had to take back my words and say how great I thought his show was, and in the pouring rain too! I'm still impressed.

DD wasn't paying much attention to the game and didn't realize it was raining until she noticed it during "Purple Rain". She wanted to know how they managed that. My response was , "because he's Prince....he can arrange that!"

My son told us it was a Foo Fighters song and he was surprised that Prince was doing it. DS really wanted to hear Little Red Corvette. :car: ;)

I LOVED LOVED LOVED his version of "Best of You"! I have to admit that I loved Prince's treatment of this song better than the original. Dave Grohl's lyrics are always emotional and eloquent, but sometimes they get lost in the noise. Prince's version was soulful and intense (and easier to understand the lyrics).

I got an email from Qvc saying they are going to be on tomorrow- promoting their new album(QVC though?)But I'll watch to hopefully hear them play

Yeah I liked his version too. I was saying to myself at first, wow Prince sure did blatantly rip off the Foo fighers, then I realized he was doing the song as a cover. I couldn't believe it. I am guessing he is good friends with them or just really likes their music. All of my friends and I are big Foo fans and we were all calling each other last night going "did you see that?!" I just thought it was a really different choice, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I am a HUGE fan of Prince and loved every minute of his performance (it was the only part of the Stoopid Bowl I watched yesterday).

I was not looking forward to Prince's performance last night but I was utterly impressed by it. He put on a good show that was fun to watch. The Foo Fighters song helped too :thumbsup2

Something tells me the moral-tut-tutters at the NFL and CBS wouldn't have gone for that.

The moral-tut-tutters were ASLEEP to allow Prince to perform in the first place!!:lmao: I can only justify his playing someone else's song just because so many of his songs are so suggestive!

I have to say that Purple Rain was definitely apropos for the weather!

My DH got angry when he heard Best of You. I don't know why.... I thought it was pretty cool.

I've never liked Prince, so I was very impressed with the HT show. I still don't like his music, but he's quite a musician, very talented. I'm not sure how they didn't get electricuted, though. Wow, was it pouring!

Okay--I thought I was living under a rock b/c that one song was one I had never heard him sing and didn't think was one of his original songs.

I'm only living under a pebble since I didn't know it was foo fighters.

I thought it was an excellent show and I am thoroughly impressed he sounded awesome singing Purple Rain last night as he was back when I had the little purple 45 of the song.

Nah don't feel bad, I'm a foo fighters fan and it took me almost to the chorus of the song to figure out what he was doing. It wasn't that big of a hit, which is another reason I posted this thread, I just thought it was a really out of the blue choice.

I flipped right away when he started singing "Best of You" since that's one of my all time favorite Foo Fighters songs. I thought it was really cool that Prince of all people, would cover a FF song! Honestly, when I heard Prince was the half-time entertainment I was kinda "eh" about it. But I was pleasantly surprised because I ended up enjoying it. But I wish he would have sung some of his other older songs other than Purple Rain (although I did think that was awesome) like maybe Little Red Corvette or Rasberry Beret :thumbsup2 Although as another poster said, a lot of his songs tend to be "suggestive" so that makes me wonder why they picked Prince in the first place :confused3 He is, by nature, a suggestive kind of guy ;)

I must be in the minority here, I didn't think Best of You sounded good at all sung by Prince.
