Primeval Whirl

Hey! The family and I are going to Animal Kingdom on July 15th! We watched "Inside the Animal Kingdom," on the Travel Channel, and "Behind Disney," on the History Channel. We have also done research on the newest attractions and places to eat so we can be prepared for our adventure - which will only be one day.

When I was researching and watching these programs the "Primeval Whirl," attraction caught my eye. It has bright colors, and looks like it is fun! My mother, who is 40, is scared to almost attempt such a ride. Having rode Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, and Big Thunder Mountain, for the last time on our last adventure she said she will never ride another coaster at Disney again. [She said she almost had a heart attack on Space Mountain, so she says she will never attempt it again even though she loves it. ]

Back to the point, is this a real intense ride? I think it looks more like a mix of the Tea Cups and another similar ride at which I can't thing of right now. Is this ride fun? Is it worth going? [No matter what, I am going!]

I have to say that I think PW is rougher than it looks. You get whipped around pretty quickly, and it's more intense than the tea cups. My ds thought it was fun, but I didn't care for it much.

We went to Animal Kingdom in March and I was surprised that my DD who is 6 wasn't tall enough to ride it, and she's average height. The CM said to go over to Expedition Everest and she will be able to ride that. So, I guess it's a lot more intense than it looks like.

I dont mean to laugh, but that sounds real crazy! She is tall enough for Expedition Everest, but not the Primeval Whirl? - Go Figure! Thanks for responding so quickly, I still would like some more opinions.

I am still going to attempt to push my mom on this ride. I am also gonna push my luck and try, TRY, try to get her on Expedition Everest! [Yeah right, like that will actually work! ]

I have to diagree. I have always expected this ride to be much more intense due to the strict height requirement. We have never had a rough experience. Perhaps it has to due with how much weight is in your car and the way it's distributed. My 65 year old mom went on last trip - after much coaxing by her grandchildren. She is by no means a "ride person", and while I can't say that she enjoyed it, she made no comments on it being over the top for her. I say tell her to give it try!

If your mom didn't like Space Mountain, she will not like PW. It really is a lot more intense than it looks. You get whipped around and there is a lot of direction changes(this is coming from a thrill ride nut). Maybe she is more suited for the Triceratop Spin. Another thing, if Dinosaur is on your list, she may want to reconsider that also. That's another that really tosses you around pretty good.

That's what I said to the CM. I said, she can ride EE but not this silly twirly ride that's in the Kiddie Land.

Dh gets sick on the teacups and the carnival ride "Tilt-a-Whirl". I don't handle Tilt-a-Whirl that well myself - will we end up feeling nauseous afterwards?

We have always found that first thing in the morning when the track is still cold it goes much slower - later when it warms up - the ride speeds up and it's a much wilder experience!!!

Primeval Whirl is extremely rough. I have..well had.. the bruises to prove it. Not only does it throw you into the sides of the car (which are NOT padded), but if you are sitting with your friend, who happens to be pooh-sized, they will force you to sit with another party of 2 as well (even if there's no line). This happened to me and I could not breathe the entire ride. Everytime I have ridden, the cast members are very unsympathetical and rude. The actual ride is not fun. It's just painful. I went on by myself and was STILL thrusted into the sides with tremendous force. My leg hurt so bad later in the day, that I had to get a wheelchair. Luckily it healed up before the next day, but I had a bruise the size of my fist.

DS9, DH and I rode it in October. I didn't think it was that rough, and I also didn't think it was as bad as Space Mountain. DH didn't care for it, and after the first time he didn't want to ride again so I rode with DS.

I have back problems so I have to pick and choose my rides or risk limping around like an ancient granny for weeks afterward. I thought Dinosaur was more likely to hurt my back than Primeval Whirl.

My 6 year old DD went on it with DH and she HATED IT!! Yelled at us for a long time after it about the bad parents we were for putting her on it

Seriously, my DH felt it was rough and made him sick and he goes on anyhthing from Space Mountain to Rock and Roller Coaster.

It's a fairly standard 'off-the-shelf' Reverchon spinning mouse coaster - been around for close to ten years, and around 25/26 operating currently. Every park and it's uncle jumped on the spinning mouse bandwagon in 2001/02, including Disney. In fact, it's pretty hard to go to a park here in the UK that doesn't have one!!!!!

The theming may change, but the coaster stays the same.....

I wouldn't call them rough, but they do have evil turns and stops in them.. I think violent would be a better word

I would have to agree with the poster who thought it was rough. It whips you around and I don't remember much padding. My DS (8) liked it and wanted to ride it again so I sent DH. Grandma was offering to ride with him but I didn't think she would like it. She thought BTMRR was rough. If you go at the end or beginning of the day you could always test it out yourself and then sent grandma if you think she would enjoy.

Okay, before my Grandmother passed away [Jan 2005.] She went with us to Disney each time on our visit and she would never refuse to ride Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, or any other thrill ride. In fact, she encouraged and pushed that we ride it with her. She was always alright with intense rides even at her age. I guess it is just different strokes for different folks - you know what I mean?

Well, Well... I am going to just have to push her on all the rides then. Really, at Animal Kingdom there is alot of things I want to do - which are all almost thrills. If she would go and not ride it would almost be as if a waste of money! [Well not really because Disney is awesome.] But I am sure you get the picture. I will talk to her about Triceratop Spin , but that is one at which she can do alone! So, you mean to tell me this ride in discussion is rougher than Space Mountain? I really think her problem on Space Mountain was the darkness, I think that played a huge factor - even though it didn't bother her before, but it does now.

See, my mother loves "Tilt-A-Whril." That is her favorite ride at the Carnival and she will refuse to leave before she has rode it like 50,000 times! She rode the "Tea Cups," and didn't get sick, but we had control on the Machine. I am starting to think it may be an okay attraction for her afterall.

Oh, my father is 42 and has problems with his head. He has a Shunt inside his head, I am not sure of the exact wording. So, he usually skips all of the big attractions, because he simply can't do them. Which is the reason why my mom is in so much discussion. I wouldn't simply want to ride by myself. Thanks, again!

We have seen coasters like this before on the Travel Channel. She loved these so called, "Mouse Coasters," until she found out one was in Animal Kingdom and she would have a chance to experience it.

I ride the teacups all the time.

I rode Primevil Whirl for the first time in January, only because DS8 really wanted to go on it.

He loved it & I said, "No more for me". It really scared me. I hate roller coasters too. When we returned in May, I did not go on Primevil Whirl again. No way!!

We all love it! To me the Tea Cups since DD spins it as fast and long as she can makes me sick. But I have never had a problem with Primeveil Whirl, which by the way I have heard it refered to as "Primevil Hurl" I guess everyone one is different and she should probably follow her instints.

This is one of those rides I just don't get. If you insist on riding, you might consider using the standby line while you await your fastpass window for a much better ride like Dino or Expedition Everest. Both are nearby. Primeval Whirl is a very slow loader, so expect long lines.

To compare PW to TeaCups is a disservice to TeaCups. PW is a jerky ride, not pleasant. As has been discussed, the ride throws you around inside your car and you may get bruised up. It was an uncomfortable, unpleasurable disappointment for me. I would rather spend my time on Kali River Rapids, Dino, EE, Kilamanjaro Safaris, the train to the petting zoo or even the Triceratop Spin. But I suppose I would rate PW the 7th best ride among the 7 rides in Animal Kingdom. I does, after all, move - unlike the seats at any of the shows. Wait, the seats in It's Tough to be a Bug do "move", so I suppose I would drop PWto 8th place out of 8 rides.

To recap: I've been in car wrecks that were more enjoyable than Primeval Whirl.
