Primeval Whirl

I plan to 'see' and 'do' everything at Animal Kingdom. So, I will be riding this for sure. The question was just so I knew what to inform my mother. By what you guys are telling me it really depends upon the individual. I really do appreciate the opinions. :hippie: I know for a fact I will enjoy the ride and hopefully I can convince her to attempt it. I guess I wont know until I get there and you wont know until you read my Trip Report! :cool1:

PW isn't that "thrilling" so to speak (for me thrilling entails fun), but it will throw you around. I don't think I"ll go on it again after the bruise I got on my side the last time I rode it! :crazy2:

To recap: I've been in car wrecks that were more enjoyable than Primeval Whirl.

I always thought Primeval Whirl WAS a car wreck!! The whiplash is reminiscent of one.

It is defintely a lot rougher than it looks! You get whipped around and crushed. I went on it once and really have no desire to do this again!

p.s. Someone told me the secret to this ride is, two people go on at a time each sit on opposite sides as this is supposed to even out the weight = less spinning.

Our DS 6 rode it and absolutely loved it. Very surprising for us, since he didn't like Star Tours, Soarin, Dinosaur. Wow! What did he like on that trip? Oh well, I think perhaps because this was the last park we went to he was beginning to discover his "riding legs". Really depends on individual :sunny:

I'm at WDW this week with my 12 year old niece. I asked her this morning what her favorite ride was and she said Primeval Whirl! So we went to AK tonight and rode it again! It did seem to spin more tonight than it did the other morning. I was in the middle, it didn't seem too bad.

I am NOT a spinning ride person AT ALL (okay, loved MS though!) but I'm a roller coaster fanatic and had seriously considered trying PW this trip because I'd seen the full ride on the Travel Channel and it didn't look like it spun all that much for a Wild Mouse. After reading this, *shakes head emphatically* NO WAY!!! :lmao:

My DD7 likes this ride. DD5 is too short. DH and I have to draw straws to see who rides with DD7. :rolleyes1 Neither one of us likes it.

If I have a headache, it's a definite no for me. Don't think it's a scary ride at all or even that rough. But it makes me kind of "car sick" for the jerky motions like riding in the backseat of a BAD driver. :rolleyes2 Which is ironic since DD7 has a tendency to get carsick sometimes.

One time I had to go with DD7 2X in a roll. We had 4 FPs since DD5 and DH stayed behind. The first time around I got a slight headache but the ride was o'kay. DH wouldn't budge and DD7 begged to go again. So, I did it twice. BIG mistake. I had to close my eyes 'cause I wa getting so dizzy and then I got whiplash from not bracing myself enough from all the tossing around. So, slight headache became BIG headache, nausea, and stiff neck.

Good thing we were on our way out of the park after that.

Oh, and regarding the "Mountain rides," I once "tricked" my Mom into going on BTMRR by telling her it was a railroad ride and nothing to be afraid of. I was a teenager at the time so she was pretty young then. I had been on it numerous times and really thought it wasn't scary or anything. Let me just tell you that ride was the LONGEST and SCARIEST ride I have ever been on in my life!!!!!

I was sitting next to my Mom and she didn't scream or anything. She had this stiff, frozen look of petrified horror on her face. I really thought she was having a heart attack or stroke right then and there. I kept holding her and talking to her telling her that it was alright and that the ride was almost over. Not a single reaction. She had closed her eyes and was so stiff I really didn't know if she was conscious or not. I keep praying for the ride to be over so that I could get her off this thing but it kept going and going! I have never tried to get her on another ride that was remotely "questionable" again!!

I love thrill rides - but Primevil Whirl was like a barf machine. I didn't mind the first half - the mousetrap sort of ride, but when it goes low and then just spins and spins and spins - ICK! Granted I had just eaten a Mickey ice cream bar, but OMG - I felt so ill! My 9 yo didn't care for this either. I loved EE, ROck and Roller Coaster, Test Track, TofT, Space Mtn, all of them. I just can't do that whole spinning thing - I only did the teacups once this trip. It gives me a headache - ever since I've had children - I can't do spinning things!

I was shocked when I tried to get on this ride with my daughter and found out she was too short but she could ride Expedition Everest. The rides don't even compare. PW is rough but in no way scary. I think my daughter would have loved it. If I took my daughter on Expedition Everest she would hate me and I know that without even trying.

My boys 8 and 6 love this ride. Their words, not mine "put a lot of weight on it so it will go faster". I rode for the first time with my older boys and a friend (DH waited with the baby). OMG, I don't think I have ever laughed that hard!!!

The first time you really start spinning caught me by surprise and it just cracked us up. I didn't think the ride was that rough at all. If you want a rough, jerky ride, head over to Dinosaur. Now, my boys refuse to ride that one.

 Thanks to all who have gave me opinions and suggestions! I am looking forward to this!

I rode PW two times last week with DS10 and DS6. When I got off the second time, I asked myself why I put myself through that again. DS10 and DS6 proceeded to ride it a third time without me. They love it. I do not. I like roller coasters, MS, EE, etc. PW is a rough ride in my opinion. DH made the mistake of putting his sunglasses in his pocket when he rode it, and the glasses were broken when he got off the ride.

I was slightly disapointed the first time I rode Primeval Whirl. I was expecting a much more intense, roller coaster-type ride. You'll get a little bit dizzy, but it's nothing compared to rides like Space Mountain.

Oh I love this ride! My DS loved it to! I have never laughed so hard in all my life during this ride! Sure it's rough and whips you around but hey that to me is the fun part of it! :goodvibes :cheer2: :wave2:

That is EXACTLY my experience - I just love it, because I just can't stop giggling and laughing through the whole thing. Yeah, it whips you around, and spins you, and take unexpected, jerky turns - but it's a whoot!

BTW, I'm a 44 year old woman, not athletic in any sense, and although not Pooh sized, I'm no toothpick.

Oh My God!!! I am cracking up laughing at this one! What did your mom do when you got off the ride? Did she want to kill you?

I enjoy coasters, but I don't put this ride in that category. The first half of the ride was decent - sort of like a mad mouse, smaller coaster that has a lot of sharp turns. THEN our "car" started to spin half way through and it never stopped spinning. BLECH! That's not fun. That's just sheer torture on your stomach. I won't go back on that one again. The wait was rather long and I don't think it was even remotely worth it.

I think she will like PW. Yes, it is a little jerky but definately not in the same class as SM.

My DW and I especially like the audio that you hear just as you are exiting the ride......"please stand before exiting the vehicle". That just seems so funny to us. "Actually, we were thinking of just rolling out onto the ground! :rotfl: :rotfl2:
