Of course Halloween would be a priority, with multiple
Not So Scary and
Oogie Boogie Bash private ticket events on both coasts. WDW since the inception of Gay Days never did anything as a Private Ticket, while
Disneyland has a private ticket event in October. The Same with the Christmas parties. So some of it has to do with it never being an offical Disney Sponsored event in Orlando.
The Private ticket event for Gay Days in Orlando is always the result oif a water park (Typhoon Lagoon) being rented for the night by a promoter, Totally different histories between the East and West coasts. If WDW ever starts doing their own private ticket events, expect more merch in June. Generally, the most we see are some pins, a T-Shirt or two, a hat or ears, maybe a mug (those come and go) and may a few little trinkets.. I'm hoping we'll see more in the futore, with Josh D'Amaro as CEO, as he better understands the Florida market, and being younger at 55 than Bob Eiger, but there certainly hasn't been time for him to implement much, yet, as most everything current as far as Merch and Park contruction was started under Bob Eiger. And the promoters have really focused it being Gay Days in Orlando, rather then Gay Days at Disney, even though Disney is where the event started in 1991 with a group of local friends wearing red shirts on the first Saturday of June in the Magic Kingdom. Once the promoters took conntrol, and let's face it their sole objective it too make $$$, Gay Days Orlando never had an official Disney branded hotel, but always focused on offsite locaations that would let them set up a sales conventions area, and control the pool area for a day, which Disney, California or Florida is not going to allow. Disney conventions are more geared to confrence tyoe conventions than sales floors. Remember, in the first couple of years, in the early 1990s, Disney World even posted portable signage at park entrances disassociating themselves for the "event." 2013 was about the first year we saw any "official" Disney merch, with a red T-Shirt with six Mickeys of pride colors. And it said simply Walt Disney World 2013. And some of the Merch, like hats, never even made it to the parks, but were available only online through the
Disney Store, over the years. I've got two Disney branded pride hats that I never saw in the parks.
