Pricing when rescheduling an OBB?

I did an OBB. Did not know about placeholders then, but booked an actual date. We now have to reschedule for summer 2018, but will not know for a few more months when we will be able to go. So I'm trying to figure out what I need to do to ensure I get the best pricing I can, but I don't really understand how the pricing works when rescheduling.

Will the rescheduled cruise be at the pricing available on the date we booked onboard or the now-going-rate (with the discount applied on top)? What if we end up booking a Summer 2018 cruise? Anyone know if we would get opening day rates even if I cannot reschedule until later?

Also, are the CMs good about knowing this and applying it or do I need to be ready to push the issue?

Thanks for the help.

You will get the pricing that is current on the day you book the cruise, with the discount applied. Book as soon as you know when you might go. Or if you have some idea as to when you might be able to go, you can have your OBB moved to a potential date on opening day. If that turns out to be the cruise you can go on, great! If not, then you'll have to reschedule to the actual cruise you want when you figure out the date and pay prevailing rates at that time.

per @Maggie'sMom you can move your specific cruise to the date you want and pay the prevailing rate at the time of booking. This is no different than having a Placeholder / Phantom cruise booked.

It really doesn't matter that you have a "dummy booking" (with real date) vs a placeholder (with no date) -- in fact, since you should be able to change the dummy booking online that might even be an easier/better situation. As to the fares... if you know on Thursday which cruise you want to take, you will change the date on your OBB and book at Thursday's rates (minus the 10% OBB discount). If you don't know until next week or next month, whenever you move that OBB to the new cruise you will get the current fare that day (minus the 10%). Since you are changing dates, you do not have a fare locked in. To get the best deal, try to know by Thursday when the summer 2018 itineraries are released for booking.

Enjoy your cruise!

You'll get the rate the new cruise is going for now, minus the 10% OBB discount. Since you're switching to a new cruise, the date you booked onboard has nothing to do with the price. (You only keep original price levels when switching cabins on a cruise you had previously booked, not when changing cruises entirely.)
