To buy or not to buy the Refillable Cups???

Guess it depends on how many per day you think you will drink & if you want to lug the mug around. :p  :) :p  :)

The refillable mugs are $5 per day for the length of the cruise, but it costs the full amount no matter what day you buy it on. In other words, if you're on a 7 day cruise, the mug costs $35 if you buy it on Saturday right after you board or on Wednesday or Friday.

You can get soda fountain drinks for free during meals in the sit down type restaurants. Some sodas are not available from the soda fountain, such as Diet Sprite. We have to pay the $1.50 plus the 15% gratuity for every can that we want, regardless if is during a meal or not.

There is another benefit to having a refillable mug if you would like a mixed drink with alcohol in it. They offer a mixed drink with added alcohol in your mug for $2.99 with several varieties, but I don't recall what they are right now.

hope that helps

DS did the math and that comes out to less than 3 sodas a day for the mug.

the math that is!!!

Now will the kids wanna carry it around... or would they lose it for someone else to find???

they also sell a carry strap which makes it easier to tote around. Just had two mugs for my two teens on the 3 day Wonder and they got more than their money's worth out of them! :)

I still say the Soda Cards were much better and more convienient...Don't know why DCL did away with it?? We will be bringing our own soda cans to store in our room again...like last year...

IMHO - the mugs are seriously overpriced, even for big soda drinkers. Why?

You can go to Publix, or wherever, before you get on board and buy a 12 pack to put in the frig in your stateroom. The soft drinks in the dining rooms are free, with a few exceptions as mentioned above. You might start to run out of soda just about the time you get to St. Maarten or Grand Cayman, depending on which cruise you're on. Buy some more in port and take it aboard! Now you're stocked again, for just a few bucks instead of $35 per mug!

That's my take on it, anyway, for what it's worth. I do the same thing with beer - I'll buy a 12 pack in St. Maarten or Cayman, and the frig is stocked. A 12 pack has been known to last me all day! ;)

Seriously - if you do drink that much beer, the refillable beer mug can get kinda costly over the period of a week. Buy 'em in port and save money for more important things, such as pictures from Shutters! (C'mon - you know Disney is getting that money in your pocket one way or another!!!)

DH and I discussed how we'll be handling the soda situation on our 7-day eastern in September, and he came up with a great solution since we both drink diet soda -- we're going to share a mug. Being married for 10 years, it doesn't bother me to drink after him ;) !

IMHO, I don't like having to drag pop on the ship, and since we're using Disney transfers, it won't be that much cheaper at the airport.

A funny side note -- somebody was selling a set of 2 Disney soda mugs on Ebay for 14.99. I couldn't believe it!! We were tempted, but our conscious got the best of us and decided against it.

Keep in mind the mugs are sold as refillable only for the length of the current cruise. They are not allowed back for future refills.

I was just on my 4th cruise, and purchased the mugs for my teens. I have two other sets at home, all of which are different styles, with years imprinted on them.

For those on a budget, by all means bring your own beverages on board. If you like a certain juice or soft drink, nothing wrong with keepin them in your fridge and taking them up on deck when you go poolside, etc. Enjoy! :)

Soda drinkers beware: the soda selection on board is VERY limited-- the only fountain sodas available (as I recall) are Coke, Diet Coke, and Sprite. I heard LOTS of kids complaining about the fact that they couldn't get root beer...

We found the soda mugs to be pretty convenient (we shared two), since we like Coke and Sprite, but if these aren't your soft drinks of choice, you'll probably want to bring your own.

I love coke products... but thats not so good for those who like Pepsi products!!!

One of the reasons DCL may have opted out of the stickers in favor of the mugs was the "treating" that was going on...

After we returned from our last cruise during which they were using stickers my DS was rambling on about how cool it was to be able to "buy" sodas for his buddies!

At least with the mugs the sharing may be limited to within the family!

Environmentality.

My son was pretty disappointed last year when they didn't have Dr. Pepper... I was surprised too. So we bought some in port and put it in the fridge, thereby avoiding a major crisis! ;)

My wife was just asking are the refillable mugs still the same as before or have they changed the style? Your choice of color (red, blue, or yellow) with the name of the ship in big letters and a "ship" on it? Just wondering. Thanks!
