Priceline bids question

Has anyone been burned by a bid? We are looking to go to Mystic CT for a few nights and was thinking of trying this. The web site said that a recent "negotiator" got a 3 star hotel for $60 a night.

I don't understand what you mean by "burned by a bid"

If you know that $60 was accepted I would bid lower than that to start off

The only time I've maybe been a little disappointed is when I bid thinking I may be getting a particular hotel, and I ended up getting another hotel that I didn't know was in their system. Perfectly good hotel, but it was a couple blocks over from where I wanted to be.

But that's it.

You'll only get burned on a bid if you bid $100 and only want to pay $60.

Just make sure if there are more than 2 of you going that you would be ok sharing a king bed. You get the leftover rooms so if all the doubles are booked when you arrive you get a king. Same if you are wanting a king and all they have are doubles. I've never been burned by the bid since I did some research but I was burned the last two times by having to share a king bed with my mom and two boys. I'm done with Priceline.

Also not sure what you mean by "burned by a bid." I've used Priceline many times and have always been satisfied with the hotels I've gotten. I also usually start out with a fairly low-ball bid, and if it's rejected go up from there.

I wouldn't go by what they show as a current win. They likely aren't showing the ones won for $30 because it cuts their margin. Read betterbidding.com and see what you need to bid.

I just glanced thru the list. Mystic 3* 50, 51, 65. Dates vary though.

What I meant by burned is by getting a hotel not as close to an attraction as you might like or by getting a less than clean/nice hotel.

I've been burned in that the hotel I got as recently "Upgraded" in star-age (and shouldn't have been) and priceline charged more than the hotel's going rate. Basically I thought I got a 4 star for X but instead for a 3 star for X+

Priceline states that it is for two people. If you need more, then you either bid for two rooms, or you go with Hotwire where you can say you have four people.

I DID use Priceline one time for four people, and got one room, but took our kids inflateable sleeping bags just in case they couldn't give us two beds. Which we did request two beds and we got them.

We have not been "burned" but did get 1 hotel that I wasnt too excited about. It ended up being alright but the review had been horrid.

I was trying to avoid that hotel by bidding on a lower star catagory but priceline "upgraded me" to the 4 star with my bid. It ended up alright but I was really sweating it untill I saw our room was clean and there were no current issues with the hotel.

I have used Priceline 3 times and was happy with all of them. Of course, I didn't have my heart set on a certain hotel either. I used betterbidding.com to see what the most probable locations would be and then used tripadvisor to see reviews of those. As far as having two beds, I called all 3 as soon as I got the confirmations and they put my request in for two beds. I got two beds everytime. I asked if it was possible to NOT get two beds, and was told by the hotel that that was only if I didn't request and there weren't any double rooms left when I arrived.

Also, if you bid on a "resort" you WILL be charged a resort fee in addition to whatever you paid Priceline.- It's in the small print that resorts sometimes charge a resort "fee".

We have used them probably 15 times over the years and have never been disappointed. We also use Hotwire and have had good luck. I use bidding for travel and better bidding to get an idea going in what I might end up with. We have never not been able to get 2 beds when we needed them.
