Quick question...

If I book a hotel from Priceline (using their "Flash Deal") it says that the room will sleep 2 adults. It says that if you need to request a room with 2 doubles, king bed, etc, that you must contact the hotel directly after you pay for the booking. So, if I book a room for my family of 4 for one night (near Flint, MI), what is the likelihood that I would NOT be able to get a room with two beds? The room is currently advertised at $54 and most of the comparable hotels are in the $80-$100 range. Is it a good idea to risk it?

It's very possible you would get stuck with a king room. I had luck once booking 2 doubles with a priceline deal, but they default to king and might have their hands tied.

Depends on the hotel. Some hotels cater to businessmen so the majority of their rooms are for two. You with your family of four would be last on the list to get one to sleep four because of the priceline stipulation.

Now if you were in Orlando chances are you'd be given a room that sleeps four because of the different population served.

Id bit risk it personally.

This - We got a room once with a King bed and had no luck getting a double. Luckily it was on for a night, but it was 5 of us. Now that the kids are older, I don't risk it.

I generally don't risk it anymore now that my kids are older. There are 5 of us too. However, there are times when the price is too irresistable and I take a chance. Last year, we got a great deal at a hotel in San Francisco, They only had a king bed, but the hotel was more than happy to bring in a cot for us. It ended up being ok.

If you check out some of the threads on the Priceline forum at HotelDealsRevealed, you'll see lots of accounts of people being disappointed. I guess bottom line, its up to you whether the risk is worth the savings.

An alternative is Hotwire. You will probably pay a bit more, but you can specify 4 guests per room.

My sister decided to go with Hotwire and booked one of their "secret deals" (or whatever they're called) and got the Wingate by Wyndham for a total of $65. It looks like the rooms have at least a king bed and sofa so if she doesn't get a double/double, she said that her 6yo can sleep on the couch and the 2yo can sleep in the king bed with her and her hubby. It's only for one night and she is very pleased that she got that hotel. The rack rate is over $100 so she got a great deal.
