Hi
We have owned at SSR since 2006 and are thinking of adding on. If we buy direct does anyone know what we would pay per point?

cheers

So is it better to buy direct?
Maybe better to pay little more and buy direct, then you can enjoy the flexibility.

Um I don't understand? "flexibility"?

Anyway Prices have gone up across most resort over the past month or 2. Here are the prices my agent told me on 3/4 compared to 4/18

BWV 123 to 130
AKV 143 to 155
BLT 158 to 165
VB 98 to 115

So points across the board are on the rise.

DVC direct purchase:

There are three good reasons to buy direct:

1. A brand new resort where there isn't a meaningful differential versus resale (currently VGF).

2. A very small add-on that you cannot find on the resale market (say 25-50 points at whatever resort).

3. A resort where resale contracts are in very high demand, price differential versus resale is relatively small, and where it is extremely difficult to find what you want resale (ie VGC).

Outside these instances, in my opinion a direct purchase is literally throwing money away for nothing. Others may disagree, and they have that right.

But the "flexibility" one gains with the direct purchase additional options is, in almost every circumstance, the ability to pay more for those things than one would pay simply reserving them with cash. In other words, it is a sales tactic rather than a legitimate benefit.

Huh??? Direct prices have been the later since March 2013. Not gone up in the past 2 months.

I think the previous poster has some confusion on the existing member discount of $7 per point for purchases of over 50 points. I am on the waiting list for 35 BWV points at $130 pp. but if I had bought 50+, the price would have been $123 pp. this is what our guide quoted us for OKW as well, so I believe it is for the 'classic' resorts.

Yes, that's what we paid last month for our BWV add on ($123pp). Is that discount going away? We were wanting to add some more BWV.

I do not think so or I would have thought my guide would have mentioned it when we put ourselves on the list 12 days ago.

I was under the impression that add ons through Disney were priced at the same rate as points for new contracts ($155 / point) but obviously that is wrong since a few of you seem to have purchased for $130 (or $123 with a discount). Does it vary by resort? Are they all $130 for add ons? How does one qualify for that $7 / point discount? Sorry for the many questions and thanks in advance for the help.

Ok so I realized Im an idiot and a previous poster had a link that answered every question I had!

Sorry about that.

Just to add on to the direct vs. resale question... Don't forget, resale contracts purchased after a certain date (I forget exactly) have usage restrictions.

MEMBERS WHO PURCHASE OWNERSHIP INTERESTS IN ANY DVC RESORT FROM A PERSON OR ENTITY OTHER
THAN DIRECTLY FROM DVD SHALL NOT BE ABLE TO USE THE VACATION POINTS ASSOCIATED WITH THAT
OWNERSHIP INTEREST FOR RESERVATIONS OR STAYS THROUGH THE INCIDENTAL BENEFITS KNOWN AS THE
CONCIERGE COLLECTION AND THE DISNEY COLLECTION

And, when talking about an add-on, the points are available for use almost immediately when purchased direct.

The date from which usage restrictions is any RESALE purchase AFTER
MARCH 2011.

I think using points for the "CONCIERGE COLLECTION AND THE DISNEY COLLECTION" is a bad idea anyway.

So I don't see this as a neg.

I'm thinking someday Disney will make it more worth while...maybe.

Been playing around with the RCI site and the point comparison for many resorts seems comparable with WDW BC or WL for a studio - which is all I've been checking. I have the filter on Gold Crown so I should be in a good selection. :wave2:

RCI is available to resale owners

I don't disagree but not being able to book DCL or ABD or anything beyond the 12 DVC resorts could be an issue for many people.
