Price Increase for AKV AND BLT minimum purchase changes

$96 a point for 50 points at AKV? Really!? I thought that the $8 incentive was only good for purchases of 100 pts or more? Do I feel an irresistible case of addonitis coming on? :scared:

I was originally going to purchase 25 points. But when I asked if there are any incentives, I got a case of the addonitis when my guide told me that if I purchase 50 or more points the $8 incentive applies. I just could not resist. I have the addonitis bad. It there a cure? :lmao:

We still haven't received this mailer yet. There is no mention of raising the min. purchase at AKV from 25 to 100 is there? They're only doing that at BLT, right?

The flyer says only BLT. No mention of an increase in minimum for AKV or anywhere else.

I got the same mailer on Monday. I am going to the travel show in Rochester on Saturday and I am going to ask them about it. I was thinking of adding on at BW since we loved it when we stayed there last month. However, a 100 point contract for us is out of the question right now, no matter where it is located. I know they are pushing AKV and BLT but we don't want any points in either place unless the deal is extraordinary. :cool2:

Where did you hear about the 200 pt minimum???:confused3

Once again, just as with the initial BLT mailing, it appears that DVC has sent a mailing out to what I guess are preferred owners based on some sort of priorty system that leaves the rest of us waiting a week or two longer for our copy of the same mailer.

Well, I gave in and added 50 more points at AKV. DH & I were discussing adding on next year but decided to strike while the iron is hot so to speak. This is probably what Disney is banking on. But, regardless, I am happy about our purchase. We were looking at resales but they couldn't beat the DVC price. And, $96 per point (and no closing cost) is better than the $112 it will be after January.

Dumb question here...are there any other incentives for AKV? Is it just the $8 off per point for 50 pts +?

I really wish the timing on these announcements was better planned. It would've been helpful for it to have been more like March or something so we could get our taxes filed first.... I have wanted to own AKV ever since we first bought SSR b'cuz we love it there...but now I am concerned more about the availability at BLT at 7 months since it will be so much smaller....

One more question - does anybody know how the size of BLT will compare to say VWL? Is VWL still the smallest DVC?

I got my mailer today telling me I'd better buy AKV before the price increase and BLT before the points increase.

I giggled a little bit.

Is is just me, or does it seem funny to get a "threatening" mailer from Disney about DVC prices increasing? I mean, who do they think they are? Sales can't be that great in this economy. Sheesh. I'm planning on seeing an extraordinary deal in 2009 or some very awesome resales.

While at the same time offering a new set of incentives to first time buyers!

I got the new buyer email as well, even though I've been a DVC member for 10 years.

BTW - I looked at the BLT site - the section concerning the 1000 founding members deal (fountain tile) is still on the site - I would think they would've gotten the 1k buyers by now.

It's not just you. They're smoking crack again over there. On the resort side if the rooms get much cheaper they are going to be free.

Is DVC out of their mind? Have they noticed the economy of the world. To force larger add on purchases and raising the prices appears to be illogical.

I am still flabergasted at their TIMING on this. RIGHT after the holidays when people are at their poorest (and when annual dues come up) and right BEFORE people have a chance to figure out their tax returns. A good size tax return = a small add-on in my thinking...:confused3 Duh DVC.:sad2: I agree with Snowbunny - they must be passing some crack around over there.

It does seem bizarre to do this now with the state of the economy and all. I know DVC members for the most part are a different demographic than "regular" park goers, but even they are cutting back in some areas. At any rate it makes no difference to us--shortly after we bought our 160 AK points in March we had to replace our AC and furnace. We had planned on paying the DVC off with DH's bonus, now it will go to the AC/furnace and DVC won't be paid off until Dec. 2009. DH says we can't get more points until we pay these off, so there you go ;).

I really hope they don't increase the add-on minimums at the other resorts--that would probably put us out of adding on more than once unless there was an amazing deal.
