Add-on through Disney question. Do I understand correctly that successful waitlist for add-on through Disney for soldout DVC I resorts are still at $84 while SSR points are $95 (with incentives that can reduce to $90)? Has anyone done this since the price increase?

I haven't done it but have heard about the $84.00 price on this board.

I was quoted $84 for resales last week when I was deciding to buy DVC. They do not have much available, but they will put your name on a waiting list and your guide can call you when something comes free.

Resale is less expensive... but not by much if you pay the closing costs and especially if you pay for the current year's points.

We chose SSR at $90/point. SSR lists at $95, but as far as I can tell... they offer a $5 discount to everyone... so the "real" price is currently $90. You can get an additional $5 discount ($85) if you forfeit the first years points... which did not seem like a good deal to me. We paid $90. Depending on your UY... you can get a deep discount on your first year's MFs... because you do not start paying fees until your unit is complete... but you get the entire 2004 allotment of points even though you have drastically reduced fees in '04. I suspect that we will bank all of our 2004 points... but I might see if I can sneak a trip down later this year.

Thanks - just wondering if the new announcement re: expanding SSR means you can once again get Dec UY? THis would afford you an extra year of points (2003) without any dues? I heard previously that Dec UY was sold out.

I didn't try to get Dec UY points, so I really do not know.

Jim,

Thanks for the great info. We had heard here that there was no longer such a thing as a "Waiting List" for sold out properties. Did your Guide actually use that term? Maybe it's something your guide is doing on his/her own? Anyone else experience this lately?

We love the idea of resale mostly because you can purchase a property that has banked/unused points -- from our point of view, that's a freebie -- icing on the cake! Our first trip this coming October was booked using these "freebie" points...

Maybe he did not use the term "waiting list"... but he did say that if I tell what property I want... he will keep looking at the board and call me when something that I want becomes available. At the time, I was considering BWV over SSR. The price was definately $84 for resales, and $90 (after discount) for SSR.

Regarding the banked points: I was told by the reseller agents... that generally you must pay the MFs associated with any banked points. Is that inaccurate?

We've had good luck with resales. I just got closing docs today for BWV that had all prior use year points banked (don't pay dues for those) as well as all current use year for $74pp + closing costs. If I choose to resell the points, it gets my cost down to around $61 pp.

Wow, sounds like you got a GREAT deal -- we've been looking for another BWV contract so I'm just a bit jealous! BWV and BCV listings have been hard to come by the last few months...
