Price differences on different itineraries?

Hi, you experts out there! We're booked for our first three-night cruise over Thanksgiving, but my question relates to research I'm doing on Aug. 09 cruises (I'm hooked already and we haven't even gone yet!)

There are large price differences and I'm wondering if you could help me figure out why.

leaving 8/1 in a deluxe family for a western Car. the price is roughly $8,900.

leaving 8/15 in a deluxe family for an eastern w/ Tortola is roughly $7,300.

That's a BIG difference to me. Since our main focus is hanging on the ship and CC, I'm not dying for any one particular port.

Why do you think the difference?

The later in August you go the more kids would have started school. When kids are out of school = $$$$ on DCL.

Some of the difference can have to do with the amount of port fees to be paid. Those cost are passed on to us so the more it cost DCL to dock in a port the more the cruise will run. Like the last poster said they have value season and high season just like the parks. If you can cruise in late August through most of October you can save some money.

Yep....later in August the prices drop....they drop even further in the fall. It is all about supply and demand....with schools starting there is a bit less demand that time of the year so the prices drop....

Fall is another great time to sail if you can...prices really drop for two main reasons.....the height of the hurricane season and kids are in school.

Those darned kids and their schooling, messing up all our ideal vacation plans!

Just to think, someday I'll be thinking back missing the days they were young and in school.

We switched sailing from early July to late August because it is that much cheaper.

Wish we could do the same, but school starts here in late July! Guess we're destined to be stuck with peak prices from here on out...or, we could cruise without the kids....
