Previously Purchased Resort Mugs

Better yet...I'm just going to scoot my chair over next to the drink dispenser and place my face under it and go from there...no mug needed!

Dh and I bought our CBR mugs in 1992, and the "rule" was that it was re-usable for life at THAT resort. In other words, a CBR mug was good for future use at CBR only, but not at any other resort, and that is the way we've used them, many times!

In 1994 my Mom wanted to purchase mugs for all the grandkids in anticipation of our 1995 extended family vacation. A manager had to go to the supply storage in order to get as many different colors as possible, he knew they were for a future trip, and specifically told my Mom that he hoped we used the mugs on many family stays at CBR. In fact, because it took so long for him to bring the mugs, he gave them to her!!

Now we usually split our WDW stays between resorts, so it doesn't pay for us to buy a new mug for each resort since now the "rule" is that the mug is only refillable for the duration of that trip. Hey, we follow the rules, and don't worry so much about what other people do.

And it frees up more space in your suitcase for Disney souvenirs.

I heard last year, to stop the bringing back of mugs, Disney was going to install a bar code reader on the mugs. Hence, if you didn't have a mugs with an acceptable bar code, the machine would not dispence. Been there 5 times since and its still the same old way. If Disney doesn't care, fountain drinks cost Disney about 2 cents a fill, why should I.

I purchase a mug at each new resort I stay at and have asked repeatedly (including management) regarding using this mug again, from this resort, if I was to return on another trip and was told no problem. I was told that as long as the mug was from the resort that I was staying at (Wilderness Lodge mug at the Wilderness Lodge resort), that I would not have a problem reusing it. Having been told this from several CM's and manager's, I have reused my mugs when I have returned to resorts that I have stayed at in the past (such as my last visit to the WL, I brought my WL mug with me and asked yet again if it was ok to use and was told that it was ok). I don't use other resort mugs at resorts that I'm not staying at unless they are sister resorts, such as the All Stars or Port Orleans. Most of the mugs being sold now don't change much in style, so it would be nearly impossible for a CM to determine if a mug from that resort was purchased during this stay or a previous one.

I believe that it is up to Disney to have all CM's well informed regarding this matter, if it is of great concern to them. However, I have yet to see one cast member monitor each of the fountains at various resorts or turn anyone away from reusing that resorts mug.

I've also seen guest fill up a carton at the condiment counter, like tomatoes and pickles and what not and make a salad but only paid for a sandwich. Or how about the guests that take 50 napkins, use 5 and throw the rest away cause they are there, same with plastic forks and spoons, jelly and butter. Guess they don't think but thats what make the prices go up. More people are abusers than conservationists, and I have seen alot and have done it myself.

I do think it is pretty funny that some people are sooo worried about what other people do. Personally, we don't buy the mugs. We bring our own soda ( and other libations!) but I never really thought about what mugs people were refilling. I can tell you this though-- I have seen plenty of people walking around at work drinking coffee out of those mugs. Looks like free advertising to me!

The Big Gulp thing is pretty nervy! Would never have the nerve to do that!

HEY!!!!

why doesn't someone start a thread about smoking in rooms??
Or maybe, about how many people you can actually fit into a room??
Or Bus behavior, park behavoir, dis-satifaction with some comparatively small aspect of their room/dinning experience/cast interation/ticket price/character appearance-interaction/ ????? the mugs are one thing, but what about these other critical issues as to wheater or not I can actually enjoy a vacation to disney????? Inquiring minds want to know!!!!!

I wonder if the idea of the never expiring mugs was conceived as an incentive for guests to return again and again....kind of like the annual pass (well, it's not forever--but I definitely kept planning trips to come back because I didn't have to pay for admission again--and I'm sure ended up spending a whole lot more that way!)

I thought it was okay to use mugs bought at the first resort for the entire length of stay, even if you transfer resorts. Basically, your family should buy mugs each trip but you don't have to buy them over again if you switch a couple times in the same week during the same trip. Oh well, sounds like it doesn't matter much. I don't mind buying the mugs anyway, there are only two in our family

That said, I'm not the refillable mug monitor ;) I am too busy having fun on my own vacation to worry about what other people are doing ;)

That's funny I just said that phrase "mug monitor" to DD(11) when we were talking about it. She couldn't understand why people would get angry about something like that & let it ruin the trip that they saved for.

BTW, I wasn't justifying the reusing of the cups by saying the cost to Disney is pennies. Just saying that they are obviously making up for it in other ways...like charging $2.50 or $3.00 for eachbottle of Coke we buy or whatever. And maybe that's why they do not enforce the policy. I just think they must be making it up somewhere or if they're not being charged by Coke for the syrup then maybe they're looking at each cup actually purchased by all us "cup law-abiding" citizens as gravy!

And that is the last that I, personally, will post on this neverending, yet quite scintillating topic.

Elise (who will be hopefully buying new cups at Wl where she's never stayed before when the codes come out...but that is another scorching thread!!!!

I know I said I was done with this but....what about "I didn't get any towel animals!" or "I didn't get any presents inmy room & I told them it was my birthday!" OMG the list can go on and on!

I love Refillable Mug posts - they are all so original. How can this possibly keep coming up on these boards that are filled with, what I have found to be, very intelligent and reasonable people? Here's my advice:
1. Buy a mug and use the crap out of it while you are at WDW
2. Take it home and put in in the cabinet - when you use it, remember your great trip
3. When you return to WDW, buy a new one and use the crap out of it again.
4. If you see someone using an old one - just snicker to yourself, knowingly
5. Or, if #4 isn't satifying enough - kick the person's cup out of their hand and strike a karate kid pose when they turn to look at you...

OMG the list can go on and on!

--->EXACTLY my point! ;)

Some could find a pot of gold left on their doorstep an obstruction to their day!!! The amount of whining about in the inconsequently to things that somehow muddy what to any 'normal' person would be a once in a lifetime experience blows my mind, and makes me lose hope for humanity.

Stupid me with the 24 Disney mugs in my kitchen cabinet!! 24 x "what was the price againt"?

Actually, I was thinking about this....DH "steals" many many many napkins from different resturants...to blow his nose!!! *GASP* Oh no! :rolleyes1 :sad2: :earseek: :rotfl2: :dancer:

:drinking1 :sad2: How sad that something so little would upset someone on their vacation. Try not to let the little things get to you. Life is too short.
I do not bring mugs with me from previous trips. We always like to buy the new ones while there, then bring them home and drink from them to bring back happy memories. In fact, I'm drinking from my WL mug right now! :drinking1

I think we paid about $8 for our mugs at the Polynesian back in 97. We read the signs then that said good only for the length of stay. Mugs are now going for something like $12 per mug. 50% increase in mugs in about 8 years. Think those pennies are adding up and Disney is now charging the rest of us for all the cheater???

CMs have been notorious for telling people the wrong information. Especially about the mugs.

Cheap, cheap, cheap. If you pay $2000 for your trip, you are spending less than 0.6% of it on a mug with unlimited drinks.

For me, it would be much more distasteful listening to a CM -- or another guest -- "correct" a guest for re-using an old mug.

Hey, if people want to save money let them re-use their cups. As for me, I haven't had to buy honey mustard in 6 months (I stocked up last time I was there with the packets at POR).

My milkshake just sprayed my keyboard. LOL! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
