I had asked
I had asked my guide those questions before on my first purchase over the phone. I had sent him an email. No response. I was told they don’t email those info out they had to talk to you over the phone. They have some restrictions I think. I also think it has something to do if any changes. Let’s say If the information he provided me is over a month old and outdated as things can change. I recall when I bought back in sept 2018 (first contract) I split my contract into 2 75 points contract, dvc only charged one processing fee (can’t recall the correct name for it) today if I were to split my contracts into smaller contracts it’s no longer one time fee i will get charged for each contract. I had purchased resale from a reputable resale company not fidelity and I have not had the best experience and actually had better experience from dvc sometimes. I think it’s hit or miss. The resale company I purchase from is one of the biggest in the market too. The agent is highly popular and highly recommended by resale folks but I thought he was just mediocre and nothing fantastic and some things he said I was very doubtful and felt he was not honest and tried to get me to offer more (felt lime he represents the seller more than being neutral) my offer was very strong and actually was higher than what average would. So I would be just as cautious if you are corresponding to resale agents. IMO both direct and resale folks are not that honest.

Yeah I agree resale agents are not looking out for the buyer's interest as their fees are probably based on sale price. Just seems like they are more free with information than DVC guides. I have only corresponded with the sponsors of this site and another that is a sponsor of another site I look read. So far the experience with them has been positive although we haven't closed on a deal yet (did have an offer accepted but the listing turned out to be wrong so we withdrew). I get that info could change as could the deal that they told us about in the tour the moment we walked out the door. Whether I get the info via phone or email I am not making the decision right then and there, when I am spending this much money. Thanks for the info on the split contracts, I assumed it would be two sets of costs/fees but would like to know how much more the 2 might be than if they were joined into just one contract. I have learned much more from picking the brains of owners on the message boards than I did in any of my dealings with sales reps.

It feels to me that since we toured in November and still have not bought in he feels we are wasting his time. What we are asking to have answered is very basic. Things like total cost including fees, closing costs and if we split the points into 2 contracts would we pay double the closing costs .... things easily answered in an email. We aren't asking for any secret info or perks ... the resale companies tell you upfront how much your total contact is going to be .... maybe it is just their rules and I am sure they don't really care about the paltry # of points we are considering but they are making the decision much easier.
Are you planning to pay all cash or finance through Disney? My understanding is if you’re financing through Disney, they won’t give you the exact numbers until the run an official credit check as this affects the interest rate offered.
If you’re paying cash, then it does seem like they should be able to give you a quick answer, even if they don’t put the numbers in an email.

Guides are not supposed to put any info regarding costs in emails. They are required to only discuss via phone or in person.

So, the specifics are always discussed that way as they do t want to have misquoted in writing.

I’m pretty sure DVC does not do a official credit check. The best rate you can get is if you are an owner who owns your contract completely for over 1 year in good standing.

Nope we are paying cash, agree that it shouldn't be a big issue to answer my questions via email. I won't buy from them until I know to the penny what it's going to cost. If necessary I will just tell them to send me the contracts written up both ways and then pick the one that I want. This shouldn't be this hard.

May I ask what the restrictions on FP were?
Also wondering if it will change once the HS rides change tiers... could they include the other TsL rides?
And what about Frozen if TT is closed for refurbishment?

I am asking because we are also planning on buying when we go down in Feb but it would be nice to have an incentive while we are there!!

Yeah that seems to be the case. To me it's ridiculous. If they needed to "sell' me I could understand it I guess but all I am asking for is the total price on 2 different scenarios, that should not be a big deal. If they can't count on themselves not to misquote in an email I wonder how can they be trusted not to make mistakes on my sales paperwork.

LOL Sounds like we may be at an impasse as their policy on email information is butting heads against my policy of no phone calls at least until the price is known.

The restrictions on the FP's that we received for touring were No Star Wars, No Pandora, and I believe no Toy Story Land or at least not able to use on Slinky Coaster.

So Frozen Ever After was ok? and SDMT?
That would be amazing!

I recall when I purchased even when I paid in cash my guide gave me a ballpark number. If I’m not wrong accounting or quality assurance are the ones that put together the exact numbers. I understand if they don’t give me the figures via email I assume it’s also quality control and as mentioned they want to avoid errors. I have also purchased resale and they may have given me numbers over email but they are not even accurate when I get the closing docs. So I don’t think it’s a big deal if Disney have to quote me Over the phone. Between the two (resale and direct) my experience I felt Disney made sure everything was accurate when I paid cash I didn’t end up getting a refund check. With my last experience with resale company after a few weeks I closed I received I refund check in the mail because they over quote. No warning at all, no email etc. never had that kind of experience when I purchased direct. They were to the tee. I purchased my resale coNtract from a reputable company too. One of the biggest resale sellers that are frequently recommended.

Your RIV sales person sounds so much better than the guide we were assigned. He was nice enough at the tour obviously and even for a time after we got home but has since pretty much quit anwering my questions. I have tried other guides thru chat and they seem very reluctant to answer anything without a phone call which I'd rather not do. Our questions are pretty basic as we compare direct vs resale so I am not sure what the big secrets are, resale websites we have conversed with have been much more open and forthcoming than DVC direct. We prefer to buy direct for our first purchase or else I would have moved on from them a long time ago. Still haven't purchased. If they are this unresponsive before the sale we are concerned with how the customer service will be after it.
If a guide transmits something in writing as part of a sales pitch, there is a much higher chance it can be used to successfully sue Disney years later if not 100% accurate than something the guide says verbally.

Also some of those closing costs are based on rates from county as well, and those could change. When I bought years ago as two contracts, the costs were the same for each, minus a little savings IIRC

But, if you aren’t willing to call yet, unfortunately you aren’t going to get exactly what you may need. I definitely think closing costs will be similar to what you see via resale sites that Cost the same amount. I know contracts around what I paid in total for RIV are just about the same...even a little higher.

Good luck!

lol That doesn't make me feel any more confident. If I have to call every time to get accurate info I will be a big no on the purchase. Thats what it will come down to my policy vs theirs. I have made deals on everything from new vehicles to summer vacation rentals without ever picking up a telephone not sure why this seems to be so difficult for Disney.

Ok so you believe if I purchase say one 100 point contract my costs would be the same if I purchased the 100 points in two separate 50 point contracts or would the costs be double? This is really all I need to know. I get that it might not be down to the exact penny.

If costs were close to the same for two 50 point contracts as they would be for one 100 point contract I would opt for the 2, if it's double then that would be a negatory on the 2 contracts. They can't even answer that simple question via email? Maybe I will just start all over with an alias on our next trip down there :) I appreciate all the input as usual it's enlightening!

I think the difference was in the document preparation fee at the time. It was a little less for the 2nd contract, The rest of the costs were based on contract size so the taxes owed were the same.

Now, Disney charges more than they used to for closing, so you may pay that $150 documents preparation fee for both, which if I had to guess, I’d say your costs for 2 vs, 1 would be about $150 more,....but just my guess.

Also remember, that if you go with 50 and 50, and ever sell one of those, you’d lose member benefits, unless you had more direct points, If that happened, you’d now be required to meet the new minimum to get them back. It may not matter, but just wanted you to know.

I know you prefer not to call, but I have yet to talk to guides who were very pushy on the phone and I’m sure they can give you a better ball park then I can.

Thank you for the info! Always so helpful here. If it were only an additional $150 to split them I would probably do that. The guide wasn't pushy at all that isn't the issue but he does seem standoffish now so we will butt heads I guess until he (or another guide) either answers my questions via email or I lose interest. I just prefer to not to pick up the phone and call every time I have a question.

I’m very curious about the touring process. We are thinking of doing a dvc info tour on our trip in June. The info here has been helpful, but one big question- how intense/high pressure is the initial pitch? I gather the time frame is about an hour. Any other info would be appreciated
