Preventing a guest from charging to a DVC room?

An acquaintance of mine has a DVC reservation for check-in early September. It turns out that she can't use all the nights she booked, and it's too late to cancel without penalties. So, she's thinking of working out a rental with me where she adds me to her reservation and I use her extra nights. However, she's antsy about having her credit card on file with Disney, since someone else (me) will be on the reservation and could thereby charge things to her credit card. I thought that perhaps the simplest solution to this problem would be to just not to give Disney a credit card at check-in.

Will this work? Has anyone run into this situation? (I realize that if we don't give Disney a credit card, we won't be able to charge meals and so forth to the room.)

Any advice will be appreciated! Thank you.

Close out her card when she leaves and add your card for the rest of your stay.

As long as the name has to be changed on the second part of the reservation anyway, why not just have her check out and you check in at the desk together. That way her card can be removed, and yours set up to replace it.

For your key, have it set up so it doesn't have charging privileges. That way you don't have to mess with changing credit cards, and she's comfortable because your card won't allow charging to the room.

They do this all the time. It's common for kids. Remember everyone must have a room key to get EMH, even children, but it's not advisable to have the kids' keys have charging allowed. Wouldn't want room charges if a kid lost their key.

This is the best suggestion if you are not doing the DDP. They will allow you to close out the CC and replace it with another one in most cases. And there's no rule that says you even have to leave a CC.

I agree with Dean that this is the best idea, but I have to add that we do it all the time with DDP as well. In fact, we make a point of not allowing room charges when we are on DDP to prevent inadvertent meal charges to the room.

A number of people have reported on the DDP board that if there is a problem with the DDP credits, CMs charge the meal to the room and leave it for the guest to straighten out later. We prefer not to face that, so we decline room charges and whip out a credit card whenever we need to buy something.

I guess I wasn't sure if both parties were going to be in the room from the start or not. If both are in the room from the start, then yes, just have one card only with charging privledges. We do that all the time with guests. We have a card on file, but only our two keys are approved for charging.

This is a good idea. We aren't using the DDP for tomorrow's trip but we are in January so I will have to remember this .
