Pressed pennies for a newbie

I'm just discovering that getting pressed pennies has changed. I have a friend with two young boys that are going to WDW for the very first time. Can someone tell me the following:

--Do they need to bring their own pennies?
--Is it true that machines now only take CC and/or cash? Should the kids bring dollar bills?
--Are there any machines that cost .50?

The kids have books to put their pennies in. I would like to provide them with enough information as possible to make it easier on their parents.

Thanks.

Most of the penny machines take cash or cc. There are very few that take change. I only came across one that was taking change in 2021 and it was at the Beach Club. There are several where you can get a series of them from one purchase. Like 5 frozen characters for $5 or something. I can’t remember exactly what they cost sorry.

My son loves pressed pennies. Good to know about not many machines taking coins. I’ve been watching stuff on YouTube and I’ve seen several machines with 8 for $5 on them.

Know they already have a book but I spotted a 50th anniversary pressed pennies holder (size of a travel wallet - rectangular) at Coronado springs yesterday and thought it was pretty cool!

Just saw this same discussion on Facebook, go to your MDE app on the phone, go to the magnifying glass at bottom, when it comes up, type: "coin press machines" in the search area at top, it will bring up all the pressed penny locations at WDW.

It’s a dollar now for a pressed penny? It’s been a few years since we’ve been there and it was .50. Quite the inflation.

I tried getting all of the 50th pressed pennies in December, which required hitting several resorts. I did not find any machines still taking .50. I visited BC, POP, Saratoga, AS, FW, GF, Poly, POR, BI, and the Contemporary, as well as all 4 parks and Disney Springs. All of the machines provided pennies. I think AKL Jambo house still had a .50 machine recently, but I am not positive of that.

I bought a $25 pre-loaded Credit card and only used it on penny machines. It was nice not carrying the quarters/pennies around for the day. If you use a credit card you will get automatically get all of the designs for that machine. If you only want 1 design, you would need a dollar bill. The machines offering 8 designs do give a discount for getting all of them ($5).

When we were there in July, we found both types of machines: supply your own quarters and Pennies and cc/dollar bills. I schlepped around both so I was always ready for whatever kind of machine it was. I found having the single dollar bills to be most helpful because those machines are way more common and I like being able to choose only one penny at a time.

Just got back. They’ll need lots of $1 bills cuz you can only use CC if you want to buy either 5 or 8 depending on the machine. I didn’t see any .50 ones except in Universal Studios.
