A nice tradition continues, now in its 55th year.......
Bush saves turkey from dinner table

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush (news - web sites) has personally intervened from the White House to set aside a death sentence -- for a turkey.
"By virtue of this pardon, Katie is on her way not to the dinner table but to Kidwell farm in Herndon, Virginia," Bush said on Tuesday, granting the reprieve from the dinner table to Katie, the first female turkey in the decades-old history of the White House Thanksgiving tradition.
"I look forward to having a conversation with Katie," Bush said as he warily approached the bird. Satisfied the turkey was tame enough, he tentatively reached out to pet it.
For the 55th consecutive year, the pardoning ceremony was held in the White House Rose Garden. The bird, supplied by the National Turkey Federation, was raised in Clinton, North Carolina.
"There she will live out her days as safe and comfortable as she can be."
