Pres. Carter said something stupid.

Not that I condone what he said--I am curious as to WHEN it was said. Maybe he doesn't feel that way anymore....maybe it was taken out of context? :confused3

Just curious as to what the rest of the facts are.

Very dumb.

But as it happened over a generation ago, what's the point?

It has never been proven that one needs to be smart to be president, or hold any political office.

I'm wondering, though, that his concern was that a mostly Jewish panel might tend to overlook the fact that Hitler actually killed more non-Jews that Jews. I believe it was 6 million Jews to 7 million non-Jews. Hilter didn't hate just Jews, but that doesn't seem to have mattered over the years.

You have you title wrong....

It should be some wacko right-wing website - fresh off its hard hitting stories of UFO - says some guy says President Carter said something.

President Carter writes tons of books, gives tons of speaches. He speaks his mind and a lot of it is controveral. If you want to rip the guy, at least use something he actually said.

I would think the President had a reason for saying there were too many Jews on the Council.

Maybe President Carter believed that a Council such as the Holocaust Council, set up by his administration I believe, would have a more balanced approach then a council run by the victims. (I don't know for sure.)

You just can't please all the people all the time.

I would wonder why Mr. Freedman, appointed to the Council by President Carter, reveals this now to a site like the WorldNetDaily. (They being so "fair and balanced" :rotfl: )

Here is another interesting article that may be interesting...

I think there should be a distinction between murder of political enemies (real or perceived) and genocide. In the case of the Jews, it was genocide.

You mean like a certain president's drunk driving record? Or his service in the National Guard? Or his missing time (that is only remembered by one person who recanted later)? Those things that happened over a generation ago?

Yes! Those would be great if posted on the WorldNutDaily!
:rotfl2:

Might this be relevant today in light of the controversy over his book, which is being promoted as we speak? Wasn't it just this week or last that Mr. Kott-air spoke at Brandeis defending his book? Wasn't he just yesterday getting all huffy on NPR? Wasn't it just this morning that NPR had a follow up interview with the guy who disputes Carter's account in his book?

I'm not defending the website or the truth/accuracy of the comments therein, but the above would explain why this is coming out now.

Shall we get a thread going with all the stupid things of the past that Presidents have said? We can write a whole book...heck we can write a series.

Your analogy is faulty. Jimmie Carter has been a private citizen since 1980 and is not running for office. If and when he decides to run for office again, his statements of a generation ago are fair game.

Bush, OTOH, was running for office and his party made personal behavior a standard for fitness to hold office.

See the difference? Nah, don't answer that.

Of course he did - he's a politician. It's a required part of the job. :rotfl:
Bush says some stupid things, Clinton said some stupid things, Gore said some stupid things, Cheney says some stupid things,etc...
In fact, try to name just one politician (in this day and age of the media) who hasn't said his share of stupid things.
I'm not trying to justify Carter, but I'm not surprised that he was recorded saying something stupid.
In fact, on a rare occasion, even I say some stupid things. I'm just lucky enough to be a nobody so that nobody really pays any attention to what I say.

Yeah, I took a look around at the site too...Thought I would need a Hazmet suit! :sad2:
