Pres. Carter said something stupid.

Your analogy is faulty. Jimmie Carter has been a private citizen since 1980 and is not running for office. If and when he decides to run for office again, his statements of a generation ago are fair game.

Bush, OTOH, was running for office and his party made personal behavior a standard for fitness to hold office.

See the difference? Nah, don't answer that.
Actually the difference is the comments made by Jimmy Carter were made while he was IN office, what happened to George Bush happened long before he thought he even might be in office. The statements he made were made while he was representing all of the people of the United States, and, as such, become part our history.

The true difference is that one is a Democrat and one is a Republican. They are both very sub par performers as Presidents.

Ok, it was stupid but what's the point of bringing it up now? Carter has done so much good since leaving the White House - more than any other Pres. in my opinion.

Well.. at least he has never during his history as president , took to calling himself as "The Decider".

My point in bringing it up now is that he is still talking about the issues of Jews in the world, and this brings some of his inner thoughts out in a public arena. It wass pointed out that he has anew book involving "Jews" and his comment is relavent to that news.

As far as the websit: even a crazy person can be correct sometimes:rotfl2: .

My other point in bringing it up is that everyone can say stupid things. This time it was Carter, next time (I'm going to guess:rotfl: ) Bush.

And I REALLY Like what Mr Carter has done with HAbitate for Hummanity :thumbsup2 :cool1: :woohoo:  . He has done great things with that and other organizations:thumbsup2 :woohoo: :flower3:

Pay no attention to the little man behind the curtain!! Everyone look at the dumb thing that Carter said almost 30 years ago so we don't have to look at all the dumb things the current president doing right now!!!!

Shall we get a thread going with all the stupid things of the past that Presidents have said? We can write a whole book...heck we can write a series.

The server would crash under the weight.....

I would really not like to be a public figure in this day in age. Good grief, there's always somebody around with a camera phone that will catch you dressed badly or saying/doing something stupid. Sadly, that one thing can overshadow whatever else is good about you.

I do think that Former President Carter's recent book has put a fresh spotlight on him.

Yeah, in Carter's case it was maybe one dumb thing he might have said in 4 years. People are still looking for one smart thing Bush may have said in 6 years. I suspect the search will go on for years.

His new book is about Israel.

His new book is about Israel.

And Israel is a country of 5 million Jews. Your point is what?

Carter is in the news, this is new information about him that was not available before. That makes it relavent to what is happening today.

Your source is less reliable then the Enquirer. How is that for a point? It is to destroy Carter for speaking out in his new book against the Israeli government. There are millions of Jews who also speak out against the Israel government. That's my point. It was not about "Jews" as much as you may like the inflammatory sound of that better.

Actually, it doesn't appear he SAID anything. They are talking about something they say is written in his handwriting in the corner of a piece of paper. The other thing they are talking about is a "liasion" who said they wouldn't even present a name to Carter because they knew Carter would think the name sounded too Jewish. Doesn't sound like Carter even got the chance to do something stupid if the information wasn't even presented to him.

What great journalism.:rolleyes1

The man is very classy and passionate about human rights. Everyones.

That was what first made me go "What the F#$%" when I read the first report. He has done such good work. I was willing to let it slide after voicing my opionion. This latest remark reenforces my initial response "Everyone can say something stupid". Especially if they are "on the record" 24/7.

I think there should be a distinction between murder of political enemies (real or perceived) and genocide. In the case of the Jews, it was genocide.

Perhaps, if you want to be technical about it. Genocide, murder, assassination... dead is dead and we can choose whatever name fits the political agenda, but Hitler's primary goal was to create a master race and a lot of people besides the Jews didn't fit the mold. He even went so far as to force hand-picked women to be impregnated with hand-picked men to further his quest for a perfect race.

We could say that the current Muslim extremists are committing genocide against Christians and simply murdering all the others that don't subscribe to their flavor of Islam. The Christians took their turn centuries earlier. It's all semantics. Because some were jews and others weren't doesn't make any of it right.

I just read the whole thread and I don't see Dawn slamming President Carter. She must be busy.

I would love to know the context or even IF he really said this. As it is, I doubt that it's for real.

Can't argue with you: Dead is dead no matter how you get there.

Well, isn't this a happy note to end on. ;)

This post should be titiled.."SOMEBODY SAID THAT SOMEBODY ELSE THINKS CARTER WOULD HAVE POSSIBLY SAID SOMETHING STUPID 27 years ago"

DISERS READ THIS HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS ARTICLE!:sad2:

Also....the last line says "The note, containing Carter's signature, was obtained this week by the NY Sun."

I see the NY SUN has a website, but honestly NEVER HEARD OF THIS News PAPER whose motto is "A Free Press For A Free People"! Any NY'ers out there ever hear of this give away news paper????:confused3
