Actually the difference is the comments made by Jimmy Carter were made while he was IN office, what happened to George Bush happened long before he thought he even might be in office. The statements he made were made while he was representing all of the people of the United States, and, as such, become part our history.Your analogy is faulty. Jimmie Carter has been a private citizen since 1980 and is not running for office. If and when he decides to run for office again, his statements of a generation ago are fair game.
Bush, OTOH, was running for office and his party made personal behavior a standard for fitness to hold office.
See the difference? Nah, don't answer that.
The true difference is that one is a Democrat and one is a Republican. They are both very sub par performers as Presidents.
