Prelude to a WDW Dream...Sept. 08 *NEW 9/9 Post 350*

Hi Jay,
So no Captain Jack? He is one expensive pirate! I suspect you would have had many extra people there wanting a look or picture with him. I think whoever you pick will be great, it's all such a fun idea. Will the character go on the boat with the party or does he leave after dinner and before the treasure hunt?

WOW! Captain Jack sure doesn't come cheap does he?! I guess it makes sense that he can't come to an outdoor event, he would probably be mobbed at your private party!

Can't wait to hear what your final plans will be!

Capt. Jack probably doesn't want to smear his makeup!! :rotfl:

My goodness, pirates are expensive these days. I am ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE you will come up with something simply amazing.

What to do?! What to do?! I am drawing a huge blank.

Here is a run down of some of the previous things we have done to celebrate our anniversary while at WDW:
SO...that is what we have already done to celebrate our last few anniversaries....I am now sort of clueless on what to do this time.

I was given a GREAT suggestion by MOUSETRIPER. She suggested that we do a vow renewal ceremony at WDW. I cannot wait to do that, however, upon investigating it...I think I want more time to plan to do that one "up right" and maybe convince a few family members/friends to join us. This year we will be celebrating our 13th anniversary. After looking at all of the amazing things you can do with a vow renewal at WDW, I pretty much have my heart set in stone with doing the vow renewal for our 15th anniversary. THANK YOU MOUSETRIPER FOR THE GREAT SUGGESTION!! So...I have my anniversary plans decided (woo hoo...I am looking forward to planning that out) for 2010. ;) Now I just need a bit of help putting together something for 2008. ;)

:cloud9: Oh Jay...all your other anniversary celebrations sound so amazing!!! You definitely know how to plan an "event". Hehehe...I am so glad you liked my idea of the vow renewal!! :goodvibes I can't wait to read the Pre-TR for that one!!! :cloud9:

WOW...that cake! I feel like bakin' a cake right now. ;) That is one mighty tasty lookin' cake!! Dh walked by the computer and asked me who was having a party and if he was invited! HA HA. I guess I know it's okay with him for me to go ahead and order another cake at WDW. **I am sure that's what his comment meant.** :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

:lmao: OF COURSE that is what his comment meant!!!! hehehehe!!

Ahhhh...finally, our first park day. We are going to start the week out right!! We are heading to AK! I am a zoo geek. I majored in biology and later went on to study ecology. In the process, I worked as an "assistant zoo keeper". I was assigned to the penguin exhibit. What did I do? I shoved vitamin supplements down the throats of dead fish, hosed down both the "off stage" areas and exhibit (penguins poo like you wouldn't imagine:rotfl2: ) and sometimes even got to help work with the animals. Nothing like a glamorous college internship!:rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao:

Wow that sounds like a cool internship!!! I would have loved that. The penguins are both my DD's and my favorites at the zoo....followed by the monkeys, of course! :lovestruc

WOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Okay, I just needed to get that out before I tried to type. I am so most excited about this day. Out of our entire trip, it is this day that really has me over the moon, toe tappin', finger snappin', smile havin' E-X-C-I-T-E-D!!!

Oh my gosh Jay....this day will, without a doubt, be AMAZING, regardless of which you choose!!!! How exciting!!!!! Like I have said a million times before, you ROCK!!!! You can be my event planner ANYTIME!!!!

A full day of fun at the Magic Kingdom. I am so excited to share MK with our very own Little Prince. I cannot wait to see his eyes grow round as saucers as we float down the water on IaSW or see him giggle as we bounce with Tigger on the Pooh ride or see his smile break out as we stop to play at Donald's Boat! So many firsts. So many moments I cannot wait to experience with him. Let's just pray he will not be teething, scared of everyone/everything or something of a crab in the heat. That would be just my luck! ;) No matter what, I know we can and will find things that bring a smile to his face. I am making that my goal for this day of our vacation. To focus on making our littlest vacationer the happiest little prince in the world!:lovestruc :goodvibes

:cloud9: Awww a special little day for your littlest prince!!!! I can not wait to hear all about his adventures and how he enjoyed them all. Pictures...we need LOTS and LOTS of pictures!!!!

Ohh and though I have never been to dinner in the Castle, I think it is awesome you get to go again. One of these days we will do that. Hey and if you need something more "girly" ....you should sign yourself up for the BBBoutique...hehehehe...!!!!! Want pictures of that too!!!:happytv: :lmao: (I reallllllyy want to do the BBB for my DD on our next trip)!!

Holy smokes, Captain Jack would break our bank! :scared1: I can't wait to hear what you end up deciding for the day. It definitely is going to be out of this world! I would never be able to convince my husband anything remotely close to this, so I'll just have to enjoy reading about it. I'm living my dreams through you, so no pressure! :rotfl2:

Leave it to a pirate to charge so much! Now that you mention the private party issue - I wonder if that will be an issue no matter what character you choose? I mean, if I saw Mickey at the beach at the resort with a crowd around him I wouldn't even think twice about walking up to him. Well, now that I know he can be booked for private parties I would think twice...but before I read your pre-trip I didn't know it could be done. I wonder if they can put up a sign that says "private party" so people know? :confused3 I would imagine it might feel awkward having to ask people to leave. And I would feel terrible if I walked into a private party and didn't know! :scared1:

Ahhh...sailing around, seeing the resorts and...DUH DUH DUH DUUUUNNNN....being dropped off at the Magic Kingdom!!

A truely dreamy day:cloud9: Please explain how you can have a sailboat drop you off at the MK. Now that is arriving in style!

OMG who's ever heard of a high maintenance Pirate, sounds like with all the hype Capt Jack's got in contact with his inner JoLo:scared1:.
:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: Okay, I think I can safely award you the "I made Jay REALLY spit her tea award". That line struck me as so funny that while I didn't literally spit out the tea I had in my mouth, I did suck it in down the wrong pipe when an unexpected urge to laugh hit me while reading that. I was laughing/choking/laughing again!

Also, good point about the Indiana Jones type person. They might be a bit "boring" without the stunts. Great thing to consider! Thanks for pointing that out!

Hi Jay,

I think whoever you pick will be great, it's all such a fun idea. Will the character go on the boat with the party or does he leave after dinner and before the treasure hunt?
We would only have the character for a thirty minute span and that thirty minute span also includes his walk time from the back stage area to our event. Hopefully we are close to where they are coming out! I am thinking the time most likely to work out for a character would be either at the very start of the lunch to kick it off right or at the very end of the party with the character being the one who kicks off the treasure hunt somehow. Either by handing them a clue or maybe just pointing out that they should dig in the sand. I am leaning toward the second idea.

WOW! Captain Jack sure doesn't come cheap does he?! I guess it makes sense that he can't come to an outdoor event, he would probably be mobbed at your private party!

Can't wait to hear what your final plans will be!
I guess it does make sense...but WOW...that man is one pricey piece of pirate: !:lmao: I will PM you back within a few days. I just need to get the information back from them and then get the time to sit down and type. Who knew having four kids would keep a girl so busy?!:confused3 :rotfl2:

Capt. Jack probably doesn't want to smear his makeup!!

My goodness, pirates are expensive these days. I am ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE you will come up with something simply amazing.
Now Barb, you had me laughing "smear his makeup". I totally see him as a diva. NOT that he is...just from the comments I read. I am still chuckling over them!

:
Wow that sounds like a cool internship!!! I would have loved that. The penguins are both my DD's and my favorites at the zoo....followed by the monkeys, of course! HA HA HA...did I mention the nasty filter cleaning that occurred daily? Or the very glamorous "check out the consistency/color/frequency of his poo" watch that sick penguins sometimes were put under?! Very cool indeed. All joking aside, it was a load of fun. If I wouldn't have had little monkey boys of my own, I might have ended up working there permanently (not sure with which animal, but at the zoo in general I mean). It was that or teach biology/ecology at a college, work in a museum, work in the zoo (or ecological park) education outreach programs, work as an ecologist, a marine biologist or on the flip side, use my other major and get into teaching or lecturing about American literature or history. I wanted to write the next great American Novel on top of all of that. As you can see, I was all over the charts. One day this appealed more, the next day it was that. :rotfl: Not being able to pin down what I wanted cost me dearly. I spent so much time getting my degrees/graduate level degrees yet to this day, I still couldn't tell you what I could see myself doing. I am too interested in too many things.:lmao:

Oh my gosh Jay....this day will, without a doubt, be AMAZING, regardless of which you choose!!!! How exciting!!!!! Like I have said a million times before, you ROCK!!!! You can be my event planner ANYTIME!!!! Those planning services are at your beck and call my dear! ;) I shall plan away for you. Another future career, Disney planner...I would LOVE that! YOU ROCK...or you are dangerous...suggesting the vow renewal and that leading me to my current "dream day" idea. I will place the blame squarely on your shoulders when dh comes to his senses and starts giving me grief over the costs.
My words are in red.

:rotfl2:
I told dh that if we somehow won, earned, inherited, or otherwise came into an unexpected million dollars before our trip that I was going to have Capt. Jack!:rotfl2: Short of that, it's not gonna happen. I bet you would be surprised what you could convince your husband of. If you go to the Grand Floridian and go to the house phone over near the pool, you could order off of the private dining menu and have them deliver it to the pool area and then carry it over on to the sand and enjoy a special meal as a family on the shores of the lake. AHHHH....that is a blissful idea. Then you could plan out your own treasure hunt and end up at the Grand 1 yacht (if you wanted to go nuts on one portion of the day), a pontoon boat or even just the GF dock to catch a ferry to the Magic Kingdom or the Poly. Ahhh...what a special day. And done on a budget too! Although, I will admit, it gets pretty pricey to order private dining at the GF. But think of it this way, it's no more then a sit down dinner and although you are not in a restaurant, it would be a special meal in a whole different sort of a way. :wizard:

:scared1:
I was worried about that. I mean, I would have scurried over to check out Mickey on the beach too. The way they have characters come out and play in the lobbies of resorts sometimes, I would have made that assumption. I mentioned this worry to the event planner and she gave me a lot of reassurance. Although a Disney character is never allowed to ask someone to leave (ie if a kid runs up for a hug, the character will not turn his back on them) their handler WILL be forceful in informing outside parties of the private nature of the character visit.

She also told me that they would sort of "rope off" the entire area we are planning on using and have signage indicating the area was closed off for a private event. She said a few people might not notice and walk through but that it would stop most foot traffic through the area. So, my hope is that without the sound of music attracting their attention, that most people would just walk by and not even realize that anything worth peeking into is going on.

I really wouldn't mind it if a little kid or two stumbled across our character visit and we were able to gift them with a special photo opportunity of them and whoever the character ends up being. Now, if they tried to stick around and play with the character...then I would most likely ask the handler to step in and move it along. But even at Disney prices for a character, I think my kids can have the patience to share the happiness for a minute or two with another little one. If that were even to happen I mean. Most people won't go looking around the backs of quiet buildings and crossing through roped off areas to get there to even realize a character was in the area.:3dglasses Can you tell I am a total worry wart that already had those same thoughts? HA HA HA. It's part of my obsessive planning disorder. :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

A truely dreamy day:cloud9: Please explain how you can have a sailboat drop you off at the MK. Now that is arriving in style!
We are hoping to rent the Grand 1 Yacht for an hour and have desserts while on board. I asked if the Grand 1 could drop us off at MK instead of take us back to the GF at the end our our alloted time period and they said that was a strong possibility. If it doesn't have to be nixed at the last minute due to weather conditions or abnormal crowds at MK (not likely in September)... it can be done! I am really excited about that!:thumbsup2 Hopefully it all works out as I am dreaming. If not, no matter what the reality, I am sure it will be great.

So not a sailboat really. We would be sailing on the yacht and I cannot imagine arriving in any more style then that! I think all of us will be flipping out with happiness to arrive by private yacht to the dock of the happiest place on earth! I need to keep reminding myself that I cannot book the yacht until 90 days out and I am going to ":scared: " if someone else books it first. Hopefully that won't happen. The dessert party on the yacht is a big part of my dream for that day.:cloud9:

What follows is our menu wish list as I typed it up and sent it to the planner to have her forward to the chef. He will take a look at it, tweak it, price it out and then get back to us with his suggestions, deletions, additions. I told them we were very open to suggestion. It's not every day I have a chef willing to work with me to set a menu for a party. SO...I am going to take his sage advice when it is offered.

Grilled steak (open for suggestions as to what kind of steak/the flavoring)
Grilled hot dogs (our boys are true hot dog fanatics), buns, ketchup, mustard
Grilled corn on the cob
Grilled vegetable skewers (mushrooms and red onions are a must, open as far as in what else the chef would suggest would work well)
Grilled shrimp OR peel and eat shrimp if the chef feels that would be a better menu choice
Cold fried chicken (if the chef feels this would work with the other menu items)
Cole slaw (whatever kind the chef would suggest)
Pasta salad (some sort of Italian flavor with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, black olives...or again, if the chef has a different suggestion we are willing to trust his judgment)
Potato salad (open to suggestions of what type)
Green beans (open as to what the chef would suggest doing with them)
Cornbread and butter
Watermelon
Fresh squeezed lemonade
Southern style sweet tea (with sugar added before it cools and not from a fountain)

I also asked that the chef (if at all possible) think up some ways to add magical touches to the menu. For instance, I saw a picture on the bridal planning threads of a dinner where the watermelon pieces were cut into the shape of Mickey heads. Stuff like that. I let the chef know that our entire party would be really into any and all touches he could dream up and that overkill would not be a problem. :thumbsup2 I figure the mom of the other family, all of the kids and myself would LOVE every Disney touch possible. So dh and the dad of the other family can just deal with it and enjoy the good food. :snooty: Actually, I really think they will enjoy the little Disney touches as well, they just won't be likely to ever admit it. I am sure they would think that they are too cool for that. :cool2: :sad2:

I am so excited to hear back from the chef!! Hopefully I will hear something by the end of next week!:thumbsup2

I guess it does make sense...but WOW...that man is one pricey piece of pirate: !:lmao: I will PM you back within a few days. I just need to get the information back from them and then get the time to sit down and type. Who knew having four kids would keep a girl so busy?!:confused3 :rotfl2:

Who knew four kids would keep a girl so busy :lmao: That's funny!!!

Take your time Jay! Thanks!

ETA: Your menu sounds fantastic!

Your menu sounds delicious!!

I figured that Disney would be able to handle keeping the party private for you. They think of everything! :thumbsup2

I love the idea of having the Disney chef add some Disney extras to the meal! That would make it even more special! :wizard: It is very fun to hear you dream all of this up... what an exciting day it will be! pixiedust:

YUMEEEEEE!!!!
So I guess the menu might get your seal of approval?!:rotfl:

Sounds like a "Grand" time.

I'm stuffed just reading the menu!
Funny, it had the opposite effect on me. I was starving just typing it up! ;) :rotfl2:

Who knew four kids would keep a girl so busy :lmao: That's funny!!!

Take your time Jay! Thanks!

ETA: Your menu sounds fantastic!
Thanks for understanding. I promise I have not forgotten. I just need to get our quote back. Which requires me to first sign the contract and get it back in with our deposit by the end of next week. I hope the menu doesn't seem too mismatched, it's just stuff our family and our friends really like. Hopefully the chef doesn't think that our tastes are too messed up. :lmao: :snooty: :lmao:

I am glad I was not the only one with that worry. I felt crazy questioning her when she explained it away as if it was not even an issue. I guess you are right though...leave it to Disney to know how to make their magic flow smoothly!:thumbsup2

I love the idea of having the Disney chef add some Disney extras to the meal! That would make it even more special! :wizard: It is very fun to hear you dream all of this up... what an exciting day it will be! pixiedust:
I hope he has some great suggestions. I am a bit worried that the chef will think we are a bit nuts for wanting all of the fun touches and more then a bit lacking in the good taste department when he sees our suggestions. ;)

:thumbsup2 Mmmm, your menu looks great! I just love your character idea, even if you can't get your number one choice! What a dream day that one will be. And dessert on a yacht that is taking you to the Magic Kingdom for the P&PP.......:goodvibes :lovestruc....sounds PERFECT. I can't think of anything better than that! Looking forward to more updates from you.

WOW that sounds like a fabulous feast!!!! Mmmmmm mmmmm good as they say. You really know how to throw a party. I cant wait to see how it all plays out! Great update.

Dh loves comedy clubs. I enjoy them also. Does Disney have one of those? No anniversary cruise as we are planning on doing a special Illuminations cruise later in the week with the entire family. Does Disney have any other shows (other then La Nouba)? Has anyone seen the Blue Man Group show? Does that sound worth the time/money?

I just started your PTR, so you might already have this info (don't have time to read past this right now!), or you might have decided on something, but Disney does have a comedy club at Pleasure Island. And, I saw Blue Man Group when I lived in NYC-it's hilarious!!!!! I was laughing so hard at the end, I was delerious. Awesome, awesome show!

John's Mom - do you remember the name of the man on the original AKL Jambo thread that planned the amazing surprise trip for his wife? His trip report was full of awesome surprises and celebrations. I just can't remember his name. I think his trip report was actually on his personal website and he gave us the link. Jaycns - you could get some great ideas from his trip - I will really try to remember his name! :surfweb:

Someone might have answered you already here too, but I think that was Ronald Duck. Not 100% sure though...that was an AMAZING trip! I was crying while reading a lot of it!!
