'Pregnant' man stuns medical profession

It's obvious you misinterpreted Charades 'of course not' response and are now putting words in his mouth. He is disagreeing with this statement: "a woman who doesn't have ovaries or a uterus (anymore) isn't female anymore?"

If she did, she's not alone...I think several of us read it the same way, and have asked Charade to verify that.

I was discussing this issue the other day on a different forum. No particular problem with it, but it certainly takes some getting used to. And that's my problem, not theirs. I have some concerns about the hormonal issues, but time will tell. I don't think it was necessarily a wise decision to go public during/so early in the pregnancy, or to use real names (unless they were aliases?). But again, they're the ones living with the consequences, and hopefully the stigma will have worn off by the time the child's old enough to udnerstand.

That said, I would hardly call The Advocate an obscure publication. They knew when they "gave" their story to The Advocate that it would quickly jump to the mainstream media.

I think a man having a baby is bizarre. People are arguing she's really a female. IMHO, if you're born a woman and go through extreme measures like a sex change, living and becoming legally known as man, then I'm going to recognize you as a man, whether you left your ovaries in there or not.

Of course, if my opinion doesn't concur with yours, I'm sure to labeled "judgmental". So be it. I'm sure the majority of the world isn't ready for pregnant men either.

This is a bizarre situation.

I looked in on this thread earlier and decided I just couldn't wrap my mind around it..the only reason I came back was because I saw DISUNC's name!

Hi DISUNC!:cool2:

What I don't get is why people have to get so up in arms at other peoples opinions...
Yes, some people are judgemental, some people are cruel and some people say things out loud that should be kept to themselves... BUT...that is THEIR right. Just like it's the right of this couple to have this baby.

I say more power to them. Some agree, some disagree...
can't we all just agree to disagree.
You don't have to raise their child... they do
These threads that begin bashing other DISers make me sad :(
Sometimes my opinion is POLAR opposite of anothers, and I will make my say, but never try to make someone else feel less inferior because of their way of thinking or living....
Sad :sad1:

 How are ya?

All I can think that this Baby Shower is gonna be a DOOZEY!

which is what we call one side of the story....

Well then here is more.....

"Doctors have discriminated against us, turning us away due to their religious beliefs. Health care professionals have refused to call me by a male pronoun or recognize Nancy as my wife. Receptionists have laughed at us"

"He was shocked by our situation and told me to shave my facial hair. After a $300 consultation, he reluctantly performed my initial checkups. He then required us to see the clinic’s psychologist to see if we were fit to bring a child into this world and consulted with the ethics board of his hospital. A few months and a couple thousand dollars later, he told us that he would no longer treat us, saying he and his staff felt uncomfortable working with “someone like me.”

um, thats still one side of the story...same side I was refering to in my first post on the subject.

Oh yes, I'm sure there has to be another side of the story. Because it's not like the majority of people have issues with transgender people or anything. I mean, this thread is a shining example of the amount of tolerance and acceptance that trans people find everyday! Clearly if any of the folks on this thread were a doctor they would be completely embracing of this couple :lmao:.

And hey, all of those actual experiences of belittling or discrimination that most GLBT people can tell you about are probably made up. I mean, GF once almost left the doctor in tears because they just could not stop badgering her and looking at her like she was an alien when she said she had insurance through a domestic partner. But I'm sure they had good reason to make her cry--it's probably some new medical way to test for a broken leg. Couldn't be that they were just homophobic and/or completely uneducated about gay issues.

Oh, and I'm still waiting for an answer about intersex people and what sex they are.

Why not seek out GLBT friendly doctors? That would have been my number ONE priority

How could there be another side to this story? If you have not lived in the shoes of GLBT person, you just cant even imagine the comments that people make to you.

Im always the proponent of the other side of the story , or even the good old there are three sides to every story one persons the others and the truth. This is not a case where this holds true in any way shape or form.

well what about the "rights" of the doctors and their office staff? are they not entitled to lead their lifestyle as well? maybe they are devout Christians and treating this person is against their belief system? This is one side of the story published in a magazine with the agenda of advancing the GLBT cause...to insinuate it is above reproach in terms of someone critcizing the motives of this pregnant couple and needing more information about the other side of the story to form a complete opinion under the premise that there is *some* discrimination against GLBT doesn't hold water with me. If we are going to respect everyone's lifestyle choices, then we need to respect everyone's lifestyle choices including those of some doctors who aren't willing to work with a patient in an unorthodox and potentially dangerous situation.

You cannot use the "intersex" example because its a biological "mistake" when that happens and then to hold it up as some sort of proof that there aren't clear sexes aka male and female doesn't work. When you are born with female parts and female chromosomes and are giving birth to a child, you are a female.
