My DH and I are planning a trip to disney in october with his family. But this summer we are going to start trying to a baby. My question is, what rides will i be unable to do if I am pregnant when we go. I'm a disney fanatic and I always want to be able to get the most of everything there.

For a definitive list I'd go to the Disney website which has a list of restrictions (height, medical, etc) for the rides. Also, consult your doctor shortly before you go because every pregnancy is different and he may want you to be extra careful of certain things.

I had the same concerns you did!!! I got prego sooner than we expected (first time's a charm!) so I was just at 5 mos. when we went at the end of last August. I'm so glad I wasn't in my first trimester, like we originally had thought if we didn't get pregnant right away. I was soooo sick! First with all day morning sickness, then with heartburn. It took until the beginning of Aug for both of those to get under control enough where I knew my limits on things and what I could/couldn't eat. WDW would've been a nightmare had we gone during this time! I was also incredibly tired throughout my entire pregnancy so even in Aug when we went, our trip schedule was quite different. I did push myself a bit more to get to do things, but I was overly tired and a bit worn out. Also, if you're like a lot of preg women, your eating will be really off. I needed to eat every 2-3 hours or I'd feel sick to my stomach...even if it was an apple or handful of crackers and cheese, I needed to eat right when my body said I did. It was harder for our 4 day trip to always have something healthy with me due to the heat. So I ended up stopping and buying more, like fresh fruit when available, or a pretzil or popcorn. And because I still got the heartburn in the evening and had some major food aversions, eating at our fav places just wasn't as good or fun to me! :(

Be more concerned with how your body will react to the heat and physical demands of the trip more than what you can or cannot ride. Your body will thank you for it!!!!!! And good luck!!! Being a mom is the very best thing!!! And dreaming about taking her to WDW soon brings me to tears each time I think about it!!!

How you feel at different points in your pregnancy will be entirely individual. Just don't go with any expectations of doing anything. You may end up lounging by the pool the whole time - accept that anything you'll do above and beyond that is a bonus and you'll be much happier. I had a relatively easy pregnancy and some weeks I felt almost completely normal, but others I was sick or sleeping 12 hours straight (followed by a nap!) or suffering from insomnia. Second trimester is considered the best for travel, and try to avoid being there weeks 6-10, even if it means skipping a month of trying because that's when you're most likely to have morning sickness (which is more like all day sickness). I think you'd only need to skip the most intense rides. Mission Space springs to mind as a ride that will let you experience morning sickness even if you aren't pregnant yet

Hi,
I went to Disney when I was 2 months pregnant with a broken ankle! It was a great trip! Granted, I was in a wheelchair alot of the time due to my ankle, but I went on alot of rides! (except roller coasters, Tower of Terror and Splash Mountain). I even went on Pirates a few times! I had severe morning sickness all day so my doctor prescribed some anti-nausia medicine that was 100% safe for pregnancy so I felt great. It was also great to be able to eat as many Dole Whip Floats as I wanted and not feel gulity! lol...
Have a great time in Disney and congrats on starting a family!
Jamie

I went when I was 7 months pregnant and was able to do quite a few rides. No rollercoasters or anything. I think the one ride I did that I shouldn't have was Pirates of the Carribean. But I did do the Safari at Animal Kingdom. I had my 2 Year Old with me too. We had a great time!

Just take it easy, as you will be doing alot of walking. Drink plenty of water and don't overexert yourself.

You can look at the park maps for the attractions with warnings - they are marked with a red triangle on the map and also on a sign at the entrance to the queue. Those are the ones that WDW warns against going on for health reasons, including pregnancy.
For Epcot here are the attractions with warnings:
  • Mission Space
  • Test Track
For Magic Kingdom:
  • Splash Mountain
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
  • Tomorrowland Indy Speedway
  • Space Mountain
For Disney Studio
  • Star Tours
  • Rock N Roller Coaster
  • Tower of Terror
For Animal Kingdom:
  • Kilimanjaro Safari
  • Kali River Rapids
  • Expedition Everest
  • Primeval Whirl
  • Dinosaur

Besides enough rest, one of the things to be very careful about is not getting dehydrated, so make sure to drink a lot of liquid. Water is best, sugary drinks can dehydrate you. Dehydration is a problem because it can lead to premature labor.

I was ten weeks pregnant and Mission Space had just opened. I was so upset that I couldn't ride it, but I wasn't taking chances. As it turns out, DH was so sick after riding that it took him two hours to drag himself back to BWV. Although he was miserable, I had to admit it seemed like justice.

But I digress...

You will be discourage from riding anything with lots of motion... even Kali River Rapids. See it as an opportunity to really enjoy the shows, street entertainment, and the FOOD (assuming you are not ill...)

Been to WDW twice when pregnant, 6 months with #3 and about 14 weeks with #4. Try to go at a time of year when the heat is not so bad. We were there in Nov. and Jan. and had no problem. Try to space in a show then a ride to get a chance to sit for a while.

If your back is bothering you spend some time in the pool, the bouyancy will take off some of the strain. Just don't go in the hot tub. It's hot enough to raise your body temp making it unsafe for the baby.

Talk to your doctor. Mine told me to stay off anything with a g-force (roller coasters, drops, too much spinning). I did go on Kilamanjaro Safari both times and had no problem. One of the OBs in the group I went to was a huge Dis fan so she really knew what was ok and what was not. Make sure you drink plenty of water and wear really comfortable shoes.

thank you all for your replies. I guess only time will tell as what I will be able to do. Or even how far along I am when we go. I would love to be past the first trimester but we have two weddings this year that my DH is standing up in and we wanted to wait til after that to start trying. Like I said only time will tell!:goodvibes thanks again!

I was 9 months pregnant last time I went to Disney in June. I didn't do rollercoasters, but that was about it. I did ride the safari, but at that I didn't really care if my water broke. I also rode Pirates without a problem.

The first time DW and I went to WDW (her first time ever) she was about three months pregnant with our second DS. Our first was about 2-1/2. It was February so not really hot, and since it wasn't crowded, we let him do a good bit of walking and travelled at his speed, so not as tiring for her. Other times we pushed him in a stroller. She didn't ride very much.

Then when our second DS was about 4, we made plans for a big trip back to WDW since they were both old enough to really enjoy it. I had travelled a lot and we cashed in Frequent Flyer miles so we all had a free round trip ticket. We booked the flights and reservations well ahead of time, and lo and behold just before we got ready to leave, she finds out she's pregnant with DS number three. She once again decided to skip a number of rides for safety's sake, and it was around June/July so much hotter, but not too far along yet to make it too miserable for her (except the disappointment of once again missing all the fun rides since she is a roller coaster type girl).

Well, our DS number three had reminded us for a while that he had never been to disney (even though we kept reminding him he had, he just couldn't see anything at the time) but life kept keeping us from planning it until he was ten last year. Since our oldest was about to go off to college, we decided it was time for us all to go while we still could. And for those who think they know where this is going, no, we didn't find out she was pregnant this time, and she finally got to enjoy the whole Disney experience this time around.

As some have said, everyone's situation is different. The best advice I can give you is to listen to your body when it tells you to slow down or take a break. Be smart about it. If you don't get to do it all this trip, it just gives you an excuse to go again in the future. I always enjoyed going to DW when I was a boy, and even as a grown adult, but it is great to watch the wonder and excitement in your child's eyes when they get to experience it, especially for the first time.

As for rides, I can't imagine Pirates of the Caribbean being too much for you, depending on how far along you may be. It only has like the one short drop that I remember. And I really can't imagine Kali River Rapids being too much. We did that for the first time this past year and I thought it was the lamest river rapid ride I had ever been on. As for Mission Space, there were two lines for that ride....one with the full motion experience, and one that I believe lets you "see" what is happening without all the movement, which they recommend for people who may have motion sickness problems or heart conditions. I never saw what that one was like, but at least check it out and see if pregnant falls into the other categories where you can still do that one. Other's on here may have done the milder version and can comment.

Things like rock 'n roller coaster, test track, tower of terror, splash mountain, space mountain, etc. are definitely ones to avoid. Head the warnings if you have any doubt at all. Like I said, trust your instincts and what your body is telling you. If you have any question or just plain don't feel right about it, err on the conservative side.

Last time I was in Disney I was 2.5 mo pg with ds. It was a great trip!! I went on most of the rides I would have anyway (I am a ride wimp!) I think the only ride I like that I didn't go on was Test Track. The signs are well marked as to what to avoid. I was there in October and it was very hot at that time which was a bit uncomfortable for me though.

It all depends upon you and what kind of a pregnant person you are. For every person who tells y ou that it didn't bother them & they were able to ride all the rides, you are going to get someone who couldn't tolerate anything.

All I have to say is be careful- pregnancy is such a short time in your life & the outcome is for life - :)

The last time I was at Disney I was 2months pregnant and very cautious of what I went on. I had been to Disney many times before so was mostly aware of what I should and shouldn't go on. Also the CM were very helpful when I asked about paritcular rides. I satyed away from all "thrill" rides (Splash Mountain, Tower of Terror, Rockin Roller Coaster, etc). I also didn't do the Safari in AK because it was a very bumpy ride. That being said - there was still alot for me to see and do. Many of the attractions are theaters and shows which are great. And the slower easy-going moving rides were also fine. If you are pregnant when you go, check with your Dr. and I would air on the side of caution when not sure.
The only time I didn't go on a ride because I was feeling quesey was Soarin'. I know the ride would be fine, but the felt the motion senstions would take my nausea at the time over the edge.

The best thing about the trip was I bought some things for my unborn baby. I got him a stuffed bear with a sotry book (My First Disney Bear) and it is now (he's 16 months old) one for his favorite stuffed toys.

The last time I went I was 2 months pregnant and my doctor told me not to worry about anything. He said the baby was so small that it wouldn't be hurt by any of the rides. I rode splash and thunder mts and test track. I opted out of ToT...rocking rollercoaster...Everest..and mission space, just for my own peace of mind. She is 10 months now and doing great....so I would just check with your doctor..

I was about six weeks along when I went to WDW, and had no problems whatsoever. I checked with my OB and he was fine with my going on any rides I wanted - he said the baby would be better protected than I would! :lmao: I took his advice and rode everything - I think this is the main reason my DS (now 7) is such a thrill-seeker and is going crazy for Tower of Terror (and we don't leave for another 3 months!)...

No matter what, always, ALWAYS! check with your doctor. My OB said if I had been even two weeks further along, he would have given me different recommendations for rides.

Hope this helps!
