Preferred Sites & Comfort Stations

We arrive in 15 days for our first Fort trip! :yay: We have a preferred site reserved for our pop-up camper. My main concern is being close enough to a comfort station. I don't necessarily want to be right next to one, but we are traveling with 4 girls (15,14,10,7) and I want to be close enough to let them go by themselves if they need to. Do you think it's necessary to fax a request for a particular loop, or will any of the preferred loops suit our needs?

Thanks!
Tracey

We camped at the Fort with my girl scout troop (ages 14-16) this past spring break. We had a Pre. Site....which still you have to walk to the rest rooms. Not a long work but a nice pace 5 min. walk. Still better then some of the state's parks that we have camped at. We did not have to request any loop...but if you want a site closer to the restroom...does not hurt to ask. ;)

Still use the buddy system...no girl goes to the restroom by herself. She must always have a buddy.

I don't find the walk too terribly long. There are also paths from CS to different areas in the loops that people seem to miss, look for the mulched areas for a short cut. Bring a flashlight at night on the paths.

Yes, let me clarify, when I say let the girls go alone to the comfort stations, I mean, without me....but with at least a buddy.

Anyone with suggestions for loops with cs's centrally located to that loop? (I notice for example, that some loops share a comfort station.)

If you just put in a request for close to a comfort station they will more than likely accomodate you. Also, when you get there go check out your site.If it is not where you like it scope out the loop for a site you like and then call the front desk from the comfort station phone and request that you move to that site. We did this last time and it was not a problem.

Follow the Miller's advice...it's a keeper!:thumbsup2

Some sites in the preferred loops can be quite a hike to the C.S. - I'm thinking 300, 500 & 700 loops, here. Just do as O.P. suggested and request a site close to a C.S. You can call the Front Desk 2-3 days before check-in to make your request. Here's the # 407-824-2900.

Yes, I was noticing that hike on the maps Debbie. That is what I want to avoid! So, there's no need to fax this request....I can call directly a couple days before? I only know the faxing protocol since we've only stayed at WL and Poly prior to this and calling was a no-no.

14 days!

You can fax your request, but I would still call just to make sure you've spoken with someone about it. On some occasions, I've called the front desk early in the morning the day of arrival to request a couple of different sites. If they couldn't give me my site request, I'd just ask for a certain loop, and they've always been very good about accomodating that request. There has only been one time they couldn't give me a loop I requested and that was Thanksgiving 1997. It was a last minute ressie....so I was thankful we got in at all. The loop request would have been a BIG bonus!!

I have also changed sites as described above. There is no guarantee you'd be able to do the same but we had requested near a CS and the site they gave us was right next door:eek: too close FOR comfort and that site had zippo shade. So, I found another site on the same loop that was 3 doors down from the CS with some shade (yes, there ain't much anywhere anyhow) and asked the guy cleaning the sites if we could be moved. He called it in on his radio and presto chango we were in a site that better suited our needs.

I think I once stayed in a CS - stall #2 if memory serves correctly!

I may be doing this also if the Aug. heat or humidity gets too bad in the tent. So, if you walk in to find me sleeping on the bench, floor, shower stall, or in front of your dryer, kindly step on over and proceed.
