We are stying at ASMusic for a night beofre checking into OKW. On my ASM confirmation it says "preferred" I wasnt aware there were preferred rooms there. Does anyone know what this means?

Preferred are the buidlings closest to the food court. There is also a $10 charge for these rooms.

Allicat,
This is my first time at this site in a LONG time, and I have posted many times before. But just browsing,I read your post about preferred rooms at ASMusic. We have stayed at the Music resort two times. Our first time,we asked for a room in a quiet section,as far from foot traffic as possible.( I value my quiet time when in my room). That time,we were there Labor Day week, which is in the value season, and our room was only $54.00 a night!!!!! Our room was located in the Broadway section,in the back of the resort, facing the woods.Perfect! The only thing that we didn't like about it,was the fact that we had to walk the entire complex to get up to the checkin building, where we would catch the buses. After a full day on your feet, that walk seemed to take forever;especially when you're tired with two kids. But last year in2002,we stayed there again,at ASMusic. But this time,we stayed there in October;checking in on the 2nd,which is the last day of the value season rates.Again,we stayed there for $54.00 a night, and stayed nine nights instead of just seven.Value rate applied to our entire stay, even though only one night was actually in the value season! But here is my main reason for replying to your post:Last year, when we checked in,the resort had already assigned us to a room;and let me tell you where it was.It was on the second floor facing the parking lot, which was basicly blocked out by the excellent landscaping. But it was in the section called Calypso! Right up next to the main building for checkins and bus catching;not to mention such a short walk to the food court to eat! We had as it appears to be called,a preferred room for the very same price as we paid the year before for a room in the far back.(Even though I requested the far room). But at the time of the year when we go,the crowds are considerbly smaller, the weather is a lot more pleasant(yes we went swimming;pools are heated),and the rate is a lot cheaper at that time.So my point is this:IF during the peak seasons and regular seasons,a room close to the main building is considered a preferred room, costing approx $10 more than the rest, and we stayed in one of them during October, the value season;then hopefully that is the info you are looking for.I just wanted to let you know, since I read the other replies to you, that if your dates are adjustable, try the value season,it's great! Honestly,I was a little weary at first,by staying in a room so close to the activities, but facing the opposite side from the pool was perfect! NO noise, no hassles. This year,we want to stay at AS Movies.
Sorry about the book.

When you book a prefered room ( and you should have been asked about this and not just assigned one), You are assured a room in what is considered the prefered building. At ASMo it is fantasia and at ASSp if is surfs up I think. I don't know about ASMu. When you pay this extra 10.00 you know that your room will be in that building. It is the one closest to the main building. There are other buildings almost as close such as toy story at ASMo that you can request. That however is just a request and you can be assigned anywhere in the resort. We have in the past used a prefered room but this year are going to chance it with a request that my DS has for the touch down building.
I would check my reservation and see if you are paying for a prefered room and decide if you do in fact want that upgrade or not. If not I would call back and have them to amend it. WE have been pleased with the all stars. Hope your trip is great.

Thanks everyone for replying.I think I am paying extra for the preferred which I dont even need. I'll only be there a night! But for 10 extra dollars, Im not going to argue.I stayed at the furthest building (cowboy boot)at Music and it was a hike!

Darel- We love value season too. We were just at Disney in Oct. for my sisters wedding so this is a bonus getaway for us!

We have stayed at all of the All Stars many, many times and IMHO the only one that I think paying preferred prices is the Music!! Calypso is the preferred building and the only close building to the foodcourt/main building. While at Movies we choose Dalmatians or Mighty Ducks (not preferred) and at the Sports we choose touchdown (again not preferred), but a the Music the $10 is well spent. We will be at the Music in May for 2 weeks and opted for the Calypso preferred non-smoking building.

Guess what Allicat?
Today is Monday,March 24th,and I received an invitation to my best friend's wedding;he lives in Altamonte Springs, just north of Orlando. He also works at Universal Studios! If possible,it appears that we may be going down there May 9th,for his wedding on the 10th.We are planning on staying at one of the AllStar Resorts for three nights,9,10,11.I am going to try for Movies this time.On Sunday 11th,we plan on going to one of the parks;probably Magic Kingdom, then driving home on Mon the 12th.This will be a neat little getaway, even though it will be shorter than our normal week to nine nights in October. But hey! We're there! Say a little prayer for us;that we will be able to do this.Thanks.

When we stayed at AS Sports last year, we never requested a preferred room during reservations, but we did request upon check-in to stay in the surf's up area (which may or may not be preferred, but it sure looked like it to me).

As far as I know (going to look up records later) we never did have to pay the extra $10/night.

So, who knows?...

I believe in the tag fairy!

Surf's up is the preferred building in AS Sports. I just spoke with a CM a few days ago and she told me it was the 2 surf buildings.

We stayed at ASMu a few weekends ago, and have ressies for May, too. Before we went, I thought, "How far can it really be?' before we left, I changed our ressies to preferred for our May visit. We were in the Rock Inn (I had faxed a request to be in Jazz and it was ignored.), and it was SO FAR! Call me spoiled, but after a day in the parks, it was a long walk back from the bus. And, with all the hype about the refillable mugs -- heck -- we had ours finished by the time we go back to the room!

Definately worth $10 in my book!

I guess we lucked out then, we didn't request it or anything (and I checked our bill, not charged for it either).

I guess if that's what they have available when you check in then that's what you get...hopefully it will work out that way again.
