After multiple searches on google, etc., I find lists of side effects but I can't seem to find the answer to this question: How long after finishing a course of prednisone will the side effects last? It was only a 6 day pack (but I don't know what the dose was, I believe it was a pretty low dose).

I know it is not the same for everyone, but for me they lasted about a week to 10 days. Hope you don't have too many side effects from it. I hate that stuff.

Ugh....I had to take that stuff for 10 days last Spring and HATED it. The side effects went away shortly after I stopped taking it. within 3-4 days.

I hate that stuff! I've been on it since I was about 8 and am almost 20 and I have to be on it for THE REST OF MY LIFE! I have a kidney disease. But anyway, the side effects after you use the medicine shouldn't last too long since it was a low dose. I think the side effects will go away pretty soon for you, probably in about a week or so.

I was on the 6-day dose twice this past winter. Each time, the side effects went away within a couple days of when I finished taking it.

Then I had to go on a much larger dosage for about 6 weeks. :( After that, the side effects stuck around for another 6 weeks or so. I felt enormously better after taking the larger dosage, but I sure hope I never have to take the stuff again. :sad2:

I think it varies from person to person alot, but I would expect it to take a few days for it to get out of your system. There is no harm in calling your pharmacist, however, and asking them if you think it's been too long.

It's a drug from hell, but unfortunetly is a necessary evil. Does a lot of good for alot of people. I've been on it often.

I hated that stuff, it made me gain weight. My appetite increased while I was on it. Luckily I wasn't on it very long and it really didn't help my particular situation. :(

I've been on it a few times. Now I taper off of it slower then recommended. I go to a half then a quarter pill. Sometimes even every other day. I still feel tired and achey for a bit though.

I know how you feel! I was on a super high dose before my kidney transplant 3 years ago. The doctor surmised that it had no effect on slowing down renal failure for me. (I had a rapid progressing kidney disease). Well I was so relieved that I didn't have to take it after the transplant (new protocol) only to wind up back on it a year later (we're trying to conceive a baby).

To answer the OP, I agree with everyone else, my MIL recently finished a 10 day dose and a week later she felt fine. No more shakes or uncontrollable hunger!

I take prednisone frequently and the side effects on such a low dose should go away in a few days. The dose I need is quite high and I have had IV steroids a few times in the last few years. The side effects of these last a long time and it just seems that when my body is getting back to normal, its time to restart the steroids.

I have taken this medication twice (only for a few days). Dare I ask...what side effects? I didn't notice any:confused:

Really? None? Lucky you! When I was on it I would get cravings - something I've never had before. I don't see how pregnant women put up with it. And I probably could have killed someone and never even known it. It made me feel real GGRRRRRR. Several other people I know who have taken it felt the same way.

The side effects I had. I have asthma and by the time I would take it I was feeling crummy. It would make me feel better right away. I would feel great, with tons of energy. When I stop taking it I feel like I hit a brick wall. Tired, achy, etc.

OK, if you REALLY want to know..... MAJOR bloating, bad muscle aches, insomnia, sad/scared, and I know other people suffer from much more than that with Prednisone.:(
I started feeling better today but now the pain has come back. Here's hoping for tomorrow!:o

Denise I hope you feel all better tomorrow. I had forgotten about the pain from it too.

Prednisone - my nemesis. I really hate it. I get put on IV and oral Prednisone when I have a bad MS attack. It always makes me even weaker when they put me on it. Then I break out all over. I get bloated and want to eat everything in sight. And I get the worst metallic taste in my mouth.

And it's supposed to help me??? Funny, but I always do bounce back after an attack, so it must work. But it sure has a funny way of working.:p

Side effects start going away for me about a week or two after I finish it up.

Good luck - I know it's not an easy drug to handle.
