Having requested our seats 180 days in advance like we were told, we rang virgin in monday to confirm these seats. they said everything was fine.

On the offchance we checked the virgin online 'manage your flight'. On there it showed that we had not requested any seating. After a lengthy phone call we were told that the aircraft had been changed late on monday and that our seating arrangements had been wiped from the system.

To cut a long story short, so that our party of five(including two kids) can sit together we have forked out for premium economy( economy had us seated in different parts of the aircraft:mad:  )

Just warning you that , as virgin said, 'your seats that you requested are not guaranteed '

:( That's awful for you, Biggy. I hope you write to VA when you get back and tell them what you've had to do, especially splitting a party with children in. Is it because someone else has gotten the rebooked seats?

Could someone please tell me how I can (try) to book our seats online? I've not done it this way before and love a challenge:D
I've got our "locator" number when I booked the fly-drive with Virgin Hols, they tell me that's the number I need, but to be honest haven't even thought about which site I go on (guessing it's www.virginatlantic.com) so any tips and advice to point in the right direction much appreciated:crazy:

Mrs Dazzle, in order to book on line you need to be a member of VA flying club. You log on & can book seats, meal requests etc. We've booked our seats & DD's kids meal (yes, I kn ow it's not exactly the best quality, but at least she'll eat something!) this way. Cheaper & easier than by phone as you can visualise the plane!

BiGGy - that is awful news, & I'm now going to log on to check our request is still there as we have just 3 weeks to go! Hope it doesn't spoil your holiday & that you have a really great time

Requesting seats online is open to everyone and not just Frequent Flier members. It's easy to do just go to VA's website and then "Manage your flights". The seats are only requested however, VA have the option to change the allocation at their discretion. Bulkhead seats are nOT available to request.

I chose mine for September, last week. It was quite fun to see them change colour to show they'd been chosen.

PS Forgot to say I used my VH booking ref, not the locator number, although it showed up anyway.

BiGGy,

Would you not have been able to do online check in? that way you would be able to book your seats upto 24hrs before you fly,I'm pretty sure you could do this and save the PE expense just to enable you all to sit together.

Sean.

Hi daftman, we did look at this but there were no seats that would suit us all together as they have already been pre requested, even tried to sort on phone but no good

spose theres worse things i'll have to suffer than PE hehehe

got over the shock of how much now so im quite looking forward to it

Biggy,

So due to Virgin doing this you are how much out of pocket?

This worries me as there is no way we could buffer any significant expense like this.

Thanks Celestine and Gill:D We are silver flying-club members, but Virgin Hols told us anyone can book their seats online! I shall be tackling this over the weekend, wish me luck:crazy:

This will be the first time in three trips we've not flown PE so it's going to be a bit of a shock . . . but I did promise DH I'd try and make this holiday as cheap as possible (don't tell him about the 4 nights hotel booking I'm looking at for Orlando:tongue: ).

It cost me 800 for 5 of us one way, Ive always wanted to travel PE so maybe its a blessing as i dont think we will be able to go again for a few years

But it does make me angry when they do this 180 day pre request of seating, as at the end of the day it means nothing. This is the second time we have had problems with the seating.

why do pre requesting of seating when they change it as and when they feel like and not even inform you your seating is gone

Jeez at £800 i would be wishing my kids a happy flight whilst i take my seat 15 rows back ;-)
