Does anyone have any thoughts on NutriSystem vs Jenny Craig?

Am thinking of starting on 1 of these, and don't know if 1 is better than the other.

If anyone can help me, I'd greatly appreciate it!!
TIA.

Well ignore my advice if you don't find it useful (since you asked about a comparison of the two), but I tried Nutrisystem for a week (I wanted a trial period) but basically the food for one person is close to appx. $200-300/month depending on if you order your food weekly, biweekly, monthly, etc. (kind of expensive for one person) and the food pretty much sucked. If you are the type of person that will benefit from already having your meals portioned out and prepackaged then you'll probably do great on it, but after a few meals (I kept them in my desk at work), I was like, I'm not eating this crap and would go out to lunch. I swear I still had some of the soups, etc. in my desk up until about a month ago (they had probably been in there a year) and not once was I ever tempted to use them. I guess I just like real food better, but do what works for you. Maybe you could try either one for a week to see if it will work for you. Good luck whatever you decide!

Here is my 2 scoops on these. Using them is great but it is not really teaching you on how to eat. The first dictionary definition of diet is

"The usual food and drink of a person or animal. "

Having said this we are all on a diet for all of our lives.

What I did was I went to a registered dietitian. She taught me what my body needs and what are good and bad foods. I lost 30lbs doing this along with running.

My wife on the other hand used a diet delivery services like;

http://www.dietdelivery.ca/
http://www.thespecialtygourmet.com/
http://www.inthezonedelivery.com/

Most of these use some sort of “Zone” mentality. They limit (not eliminate) carbohydrates in your diet. The body need a certain amount of carbs to functions properly (the brain needs the most)

So having said that you can always learn how to eat or if you are too busy to cook for yourself or are don’t like cooking go with a service.

Remember the reason you want to do this is for yourself not someone you report to.

Thanks for the opinions.

I've thought about going to a dietician....how do you find one? Are they the same as nutritionists?

Thanks again!

Maybe you could ask your doctor to do a referral for you........that way your insurance would pay for it. My visit with the dietician was just for me and my size and my weight. Each person is different. I went because I was having high sugar levels in fasting and in three month test. Because of my size. I am limited to 45 carbs per meal and also 15 carbs for a night time snack. Having limited carbs was very very hard the first week. I actually was mourning. NOW HOW DO THE people who go on Atkins do it. I am very happy with my amounts now. GO to the diabetes clinic in three weeks so I will see how I am doing.

I didn't use either of the two programs you mentioned, but did use Health Management Resources, which also uses pre-packaged meals strategically to improve weight-loss compliance. I highly recommend it. Remarkably, research shows that the most effect approach involves using one regimen to lose weight, and then transitioning to another regimen for life-long weight-loss maintenance. One explanation for this is that patients derive significant motivation from yielding more readily apparent rewards from their weight-loss efforts, but to accomplish that it is necessary to apply approaches that generally aren't sustainable long-term. Having a deliberate three-phase program bridges that gap. Focused weight-loss; behavior modification training and support; and formal transition to maintenance: All three aspects of the program are necessary to achieve the success rates that are generally associated with such programs (generally 2-4 times as effective as traditional programs like WW).

Today I signed up for eDiets.com alternative for Jenny Craig. I am doing this instead of WW because this is sooo much more convenient for me. A few weeks ago I ordered some Kathy Smith workout program I saw on TV called Project:YOU. So, I am going to combine the two. I lost 30 pounds since May while I was doing WW and just doing some cardio at the gym. Hopefully, this will give me some variety and help me lose my remaining weight. Good luck!
