Pre K budget buster what would you do

I'd keep the kid home and google a SAHM group in your area! You sound like your doing fine on your own and the SAHM club will introduce your child to other kids.

10k/4k is just SICK for per. K

$10,000 prek--ummmmm, not necessary by any means.

I really cannot follow along with the rest of your post.

I would say, do what works WELL in your budget and do NOT finance pre-school with credit cards or loans. :sad2:

You can always SUPPLEMENT.

Many homeschoolers on the dis that can point you in a few directions.

One I like that is FREE and will teach your child to read: www.starfall.com.

If you are looking only for socialization, you can save a lot of money by joining playgroups like MOPS.

Don't be swindled by a pre-school making any kind of genius promises for your bright child. They are in it for the money! Pre-school should not be on par in cost with college.

I am a preschool director that really thinks that if you going to send your child to a group setting kindergarten, preschool is very important. HOWEVER--I think it is better to NOT send them that to send them to a low quality program. Preschool is getting a child ready to learn in a group setting and to learn to LOVE school. If this is not going to happen, than I would skip the whole thing. I think however, you need to really look at a preschool before judging it. If it is really dirty, walk away fast, but if it is just older, that may not make it a bad choice. You are going to have children from different walks of life at most schools. That simply does not make it a bad program.

I think that you may have issues in a Christian school. Many may ask that you agree with the mission statement of the school which may be something you are not able to do. A christian school is also going to teach the bible as fact and if dad tells your child that is not true that may create issues as well. I do however think, money wise that may be a good choice if you find one your family can agree on the mission statement.

No way would i ever pay 10,000 for preschool!!!

Dd has gone to catholic churches when ever we visit family and my mom reads her bible verses every morning we are there (which was 4 months of the last year due to tdy and deployments). I was raised catholic and went to lutherin summer camp. Dh and I believe in letting dd make her own choices regarding religion and prefer to teach her about all beliefs. I am not an athiest but I have yet to find a church or religion that feels right.

We wouldn't need to go into debt for any of the choices. We had saved for a small dvc add on. we took our names off the points wait list at OKW (there are wait lists to purchase direct from Disney OKW points currently) and will use that to pay for DD pre k if she doesn't make the local schools wait list.

Lol, because it is impossible to learn to stand in line at the bank, or grocery....or to learn how to interact with people at home, the park, church, etc. I can't imagine how my kids are making it into tier one schools?!!! And amazingly have friends too. They must be prodigies or something. How did civilization make it this long without preschool?

:rotfl2: So true though
