Just got off the phone with my dad (75).....and he has prostate cancer. He sounds very upbeat since its been caught early, and has opted to have a radio active pill implanted as treatment. This is all new to us, so sorry if I got any of that wrong. Still not sure how I'm supposed to feel since he sounded very positive.

Please keep my dad in your thoughts & prayers. Thank you.

Hugs and prayers are on the way! Sometimes it's harder on the people around the person who's sick. It's wonderful that he has an upbeat attitude.

Thoughts and prayers. My grandfather and uncle are both prostate cancer survivors

My dad was just tested for this not to long ago. Luckily the results were negative, but it wasn't looking good for awhile.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. It sounds like he has a great attitude about it though. I think a positive outlook can go a long way when your body is stressed.

You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks guys. Seeing my post makes it seem surreal. Weird. Know what I mean?

Like he does every spring, he was talking about getting the boat into the water & everything he needs to do for another season of running his charter fishing business. Not in a denial kind of way. He said he picked that type of treatment because it wouldn't leave him messed up for 8-12 wks like chemo.

He just wants to go fishing. :goodvibes
Ummmmm, Dad, it's 8 degrees outside & wind is blowing like a ................

Glad he has a good attitude, it's amazing how much that can help. Good luck to him and to you too.:grouphug:

Splash--you and your dad are in my prayers.

We have been through 2 colon cancer surgeries the past 2 Novembers with my dad. Surreal is EXACTLY the right word. I consider us so lucky and incredibly blessed that both times, all he needed was surgery (yeah, 'all' he needed :rolleyes2 ), but no chemo, no radiation. But I do know a bit about what you're feeling. I'm an email or PM away if you want to chat.

The radioactive 'pills' are a pretty fascinating therapy. I had a girlfriend who received this type of treatment when it was experimental, and it gave her two more years with us. And this was 10 years ago, and they've come by leaps and bounds.

Be upbeat when he is, and when he's feeling down, let him, but don't buy into it with him. Come here and be down with us.

All my best to you guys

I will definately keep him in my prayers. My grandfather had the SAME thing. He asked a family friend/doctor what to do, as well as his regular doctor. They recommended the pills and that's what he used. I would say that was about 8-10 years ago, and he's still here! He would have been around 68-69 then?

If memory serves correct, I think the one family friend said that the pills are great for someone his age.

I hope that helps, but there is at least one success story out there.

Needing to hear more success stories, if you've got them. Thanks.

My 80 year old DFIL finished treatment 6 months ago and he is fine! Your Dad will be too, and he is doing exactly the right thing by planning his future!
